This handsome 1977 Mercedes-Benz 240D Sedan is a one-family owned vehicle that has been restored to show quality standards. It's accompanied with original documentation including the factory window sticker, factory EPA guide, three dealership Bill of Sales, dealership charge account letter, insurance identification card, owner's manuals and metal warranty plate. This wonderful example was originally ordered by the Kea Motor Car Company in Nanuet, NY. It was ordered with a (904) - Dark Blue exterior, (105)- Parchment MB Tex interior, (440)-Cruise Control, (515)-Europa AM-FM Radio, (570)-Front Center Folding Arm Rest and (580)- Air Conditioning. The Total Suggested Retail Price was $13,969.00. It was sold to Robert Buchakian who lived in Tuxedo Park, NY on May 26th, 1977. Robert was a retailer who founded the Treasure Island stores. On June 14th, 1977 he put the car in his company name which was Treasure Island, Inc. located in Mahwah, NJ. Robert owned the car until his unfortunate passing at the age of 53 years old on October 4th, 1988. The car stayed in the company's name until it was purchased on January 19th, 2007 by Robert's nephew Paul Pinajian who currently lives in Wyckoff, NJ. Paul worked for the company and was part of the cars history from day one. Paul appreciated the cars history, design and mechanical features. Paul decided to slowly restore the car which was completed in 2011. Some of the receipts of the restoration work are included. During this timeframe Paul showed the car at the Mercedes-Benz Club of America NNJS June Jamboree Concours d' Elegance in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2016.
The exterior of this car is in beautiful condition throughout. During the restoration process the body was completely stripped to bare metal and all of the glass was removed. It was professionally re-painted in its original color of Dark Blue. This is a very desirable color among Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts and collectors. The Dark Blue color is complemented with a Beige and Red double pinstripe. The paint was recently detailed to a high gloss finish by the team at MS CLASSIC CARS. It retains all of its original factory stamped glass which exception of the front windshield which was ordered new from the Mercedes-Benz dealership. All of the glass trim was polished and looks very nice. The drip rail trim and body side molding was ordered new from Germany. The front grill, headlight bezels, front bumper and rear bumper were ordered new from the Mercedes-Benz dealership. The car rolls on the factory style 14” steel wheels that are dressed with the original polished hub caps with blue painted centers and Mercedes-Benz stars. The wheels are wrapped with Uni-Royal Tiger Paw AWP II white wall 185-70-14 tires.
The interior of this car is also in beautiful condition throughout. The color combination of a Dark Blue exterior and a Parchment interior is simply gorgeous. From the information gathered this is a rare color combination. The mostly original interior appears fresh and very crisp with virtually very little signs of use. The condition of the original dash, gauges, vents, knobs, wood trim, steering wheel, center console, door panels and seats is truly remarkable. Only the headliner, horse hair seat pads and carpeting were replaced new during the restoration. Some of the plastic trim was also dyed for a fresh appearance. The central locking system is vacuum operated and occasionally the passenger door lock doesn't work. The original Becker Europa non-working radio is included. It was outfitted with custom floor mats that add character. The trunk compartment is in beautiful condition throughout. Its home to the black rubber mat, full-size spare and tools.
The painted engine compartment is very clean throughout. It still retains its original metal Data Plate on the radiator support. The car is powered by its original 2.4L OHC 4-cyclinder Diesel engine that runs excellent. The engine was professionally machined by Olsen Engines, Inc. and rebuilt by Radical New Jersey, Inc. The receipts for the engine rebuild are presented in the gallery and total over $13,000. Everything in the engine compartment such as the air conditioning, power steering, cooling system and exhaust system was restored or replaced. The engine is coupled to the original 4-speed automatic transmission which was professionally rebuilt and shifts smoothly.
The undercarriage is also very clean throughout. The floors have been re-painted with textured black paint for durability. Everything underneath the car such as the fuel system, suspension components and braking system was restored or replaced.
