What’s amazing about Street Fighter 4 3DS is that if you disable the 3D in the game’s settings, it will boost the frame rate to 60FPS instead of the 30FPS that it runs out of the box.
That makes the game even MORE impressive of a launch title.

Wanna hear something? I quit video games when I went to college and I'm about to pick up some hand helds only now, starting with a modded new 3DS XL. The last one I played was a DS, never had a PSP, skipped the 3DS era altogether and well, the Switch generation is coming to an end as well from rumors I've heard.
I'm about to play all the 3DS and PSP + PSVita games for free. This is gonna be a video game overload. I'll probably buy me a switch when its price goes in free fall when its successor drops.

Eh, but that's the thing, isn't it? It's just Nintendo games, can't think of many more 3DS games that are good and not made by Nintendo (Square and Capcom did on occasion, but not as much as on DS.) But I suppose this is a problem Nintendo still has to this day, so it doesn't matter that much evidentially.

Oh my, I remember waiting outside an EB Games for this one to drop with like maybe four other people and just kinda being disappointed deep down, but also loving the 3DS and all of the new features. I was also one of the few at my school who had one so I got many questions about it. I think the launch games I got were Pilotwings, Street Fighter, and Nintendogs. Although I remember spending much more time playing with the AR Cards, Face Raiders, and Streetpass Games. My city had a Streetpass meetup group too, and I remember the viral videos of the massive AR Cards as people learned that the bigger the card, the bigger the models, as well as learning that the card doesn't actually need to be in color for it to work. I eventually made my own massive B&W AR Card on foamcore, before getting the Club Nintendo one. Something about that period is very nostalgic to me, with the sense of discovery and wonder, as well as being young enough to be wowed by the features of it all. Streetpass is probably what I miss most, and while it didn't work the way Nintendo probably wanted since the 3DS wasn't as big as the DS, it brought people together.

I replayed that game so much since I was not interested with any other 3DS game, so at that time I was either replaying SF4 3D for months, or I was fiddling around with the MP3 player/AR Cards for the hundredth time. To make the 3DS launch even sadder for me, I was the only kid in my class to get it. Literally the only kid, that's how expensive and unpopular this thing was in 2011. I loved my 3DS either way, it was a futuristic version of the DSi that continued my love for Nintendo's portables.

He was kind of down on them, and I didnt play these at launch but I later went back to Samurai Warriors Chronicles, and Ghost Recon Shadow Wars and both of those are pretty good games. Samurai Warriors is a lot more of a classic warriors experience, and like he said it is slower, but its also a little harder and more about map control than objectives which is something I really liked about it. Shadow Wars felt cheap from a presentation standpoint, but I thought it had good map design, and interesting unit types. It was something I really enjoyed. We got Dinosaurs 3D that day, and according to my activity log, I played it for 11 hours. Without looking it up, all I remember was that it is extremely basic, like a version of punch-out where the opponents only ever do 3 things and you need to do the right out of 3 options. It's funny you mentioned Steel Diver feeling like a side mode or minigame because the two 3DS Sonic BOOM games did exactly that, you've got these yellow terminals Tails can hack, and the hacking minigame is a BLATANT Steel Diver knock off, but using button and stick controls instead of the touch screen. So at least that's one thing Sonic BOOM Shattered Crystal did right...

The night it launched, my Best Buy had a special event. They had models there with 3DS consoles wired to them that you could demo (I kid you not- they were attached to the women with wires). They had wheel spins and skill games you could play to try to win free 3DS games and Best Buy gift cards. I won the Ghost Recon game, and my friend won a $50 BBY gift card. I still have the 3DS drawstring backpack they gave us.

It makes me sad because i was so excited and got one very soon after release only to hardly ever play it. I eventually sold it after a couple years but now wish i had kept it considering it was an embassador console and i couldve gotten into its better titles after it had been around for a few years. But my 2ds xl has been great to me so i cant complain too much!

I really like the New 2DS XL, personally. It's lightweight and much more comfortable to use. The speaker placement really is the only downgrade that comes to mind, though you could use headphones to remedy that.

I like when Scott has to repeat himself, he doesn't just brush off topics and say "I've already covered this in a video, so I will not be talking about it here. Let's move on." Something like Asphalt 3D he's talked about it before so he could very easily just be lazy and not talking about it, but I'm glad he reiterates his points and talks about it again because not everyone has heard him talk about it before or they don't remember everything.

Ah, the 3DS launch. Good times. Still have my original model, even though I'm not the collecting type. This was weirdly enough, my main introduction to Street Fighter, and now, I'm a Fighting Game guy. I was also super enamored with the included AR cards.

Street Fighter IV 3D was my first game for the 3DS. It was a game I had dreamed of being portable, and Nintendo made it happen, thanks Capcom. The 3D in this game is one of my favorites, it even had a 3d fighting mode.

Honestly, the ghost recon game is pretty good if you're really looking for an XCOM styled game. Especially since at the time there was really a lack of that style of game.
Is it great? No but honestly it's not a bad game by any stretch and worth a look if you enjoy that genre. Julian Gallop was one of the people on the project even.

Despite the objective quality and retrospective narrative, I really enjoyed my time with the 3DS from day 1 and still look back on it fondly. When I got my 3DS in 2011, I was personally disappointed in the low resolution of the system. I remember that being a consistent pain point of the system. I did very much like how it had an eshop with affordable indie games. As a poor college student that was all I could afford for awhile. I did go and get a bunch of cheap used original ds games too.
