The 2004-2006 YFZ450's are notorious for crank bearings going out ... especially if you don't keep up with the oil changes ... In 2007, Yamaha added the oil squirter to the clutch side case cover, that shoots a stream of oil into the crank rod bearings.
Yup I've read up on that issue with those years and I think you can get the oil squirter too fit onto the 04-06 model years since they didn't really change since up until 2014

Just had the same problem on a Raptor 700 I got. The Rod bearing was seized just like that because the previous owner ran low on oil. Rebuilt it with a Hot rods crank and now she runs good. I have a video on the tear down.

Doing the same on my 07 YFZ currently! Just waiting on parts. Happened on the last race of the season, 3 miles in first lap, she started slowing down on my as if I was slamming the brakes. Then, at the bottom of a hill, she seized up completely

What I’ve always done is that if you put an old nut that fits on that axel and get a air hammer with a round tip and use that it breaks it free pretty quick lol comes in real handy

Another thing that could be the issue is it has the wrong main jet inside the carburetor to. That can cause those same types of issues on those engines to. Cause A offset main carburetor jet can cause those no power.& Get up.& Go issues to. If that tab is broken off to it will effect the timing for sure. It might need tig welding done.,or mig welding done to fix that tab problem on it to Joe. It has to o be on that engine block.,or separate spacer plate one. On those split case engines for sure.
Honestly looks like it got hot and seized blued so… definitely got too hot… I also suggest you pull the metal filter on the bottom of the oil tank and replace it filled with metal on my 400 and also had to torch out my swing arm bolt fyi
you do a lot of work like this, i work on lots of powersport toys as well and some real old stuff. Just wondering why you dont have a oxy-acetylene torch as it is far superior to a propane torch. When i have trouble and have the correct pullers and slide hammer and yada yada, the last thing is some fast concentrated heat from an oxy-acetylene torch, works 99% of the time. If you really dont want to purchase that at least use MAP gas instead of propane. It can be bought usually right beside the bottles of propane but in a yellow bottle. Even map gas is far better than straight propane. Keep of the good work, I love your committment to completing your projects and doin a good job. Peace.
Needed 1 Decent air hammer that is a body pannel tickling device 1 lump hammer 2lb+ and some good drifts PS you should never use sand paper in a bushing like that it takes 1 grain of the stuff to get embedded thats it game over you will definately need the saw next time

Air hammer for the save!! I just got one last summer and idk how I lived without one for so long! 😂 definitely make sure you clean the oil pump assembly! Or you’ll be right back in there! And I do lightly hone nikasil cylinders 😬 still need to be able to get new rings to seat. I haven’t had it as a point of failure yet knock on wood 😂
Throw away the damn claw hammer joe. You need a few ball pean hammer’s and a small sledgehammer
I always love seeing a spot quad video, even when it's not a Honda.
Every time u buy a machine take us with! It’s cool to watch
You can hone nikesel cylinders with a 320 or 400 grit ball hone , I don't know why people day that you can't they come honed when there new !!!
Where do you find your deals? I’ve tried to find new projects but never can find one. I can’t sell mine either.
check intake boot and airfilter. biggest mistakes. lack of maintenance
I've been looking for a four-wheeler but I'll know to stay away from those! Just finished up a 2004 Honda recon and it looks awesome!
I had my nickel plated kx 85 cylinder bored and Not replatted been running it for 4 years now like that with no issue.
Love the footage of the deal. Thanks for the behind the scenes. Keep up the great work !
Thought you would pop that rod cap off, check the journal and show us the destroyed bearing
You can't regret buying this because you already knew what was wrong lol
Honestly looks like it got hot and seized blued so… definitely got too hot… I also suggest you pull the metal filter on the bottom of the oil tank and replace it filled with metal on my 400 and also had to torch out my swing arm bolt fyi
Y have I never knew u had a second channel that crazy u should definitely mention it next video
With all the quads and m/c using radiators you might need a pressure tester to check for coolant loss.
you do a lot of work like this, i work on lots of powersport toys as well and some real old stuff. Peace.
Needed 1 Decent air hammer that is a body pannel tickling device 1 lump hammer 2lb+ and some good drifts PS you should never use sand paper in a bushing like that it takes 1 grain of the stuff to get embedded thats it game over you will definately need the saw next time
Great content brother. I didn't expect to watch the entire video, but I was glued to the screen the entire time. New subscriber here 👍
This guy knew exactly what he was talking about Joe he got you good man
There is a video out there called important information for 2004 through 2006 YFZ 450, go look at that it has something to do with the oiling system on that bike you might as well fix it while you have it open
Listen pal any used bike I ever bought no matter who it was from friend or stranger I always bought with with intention of full rebuild even if it was just rebuilt. You never know what’s going happen, who did the work how mechanically skilled they are or if the motor is just going to grenade for no reason. With that being said most people bullshit just to get rid of their basket case.
Just subscribed...your videos are getting more interesting and the old turds are getting fixed and back on the trail. Keep it up...I am a big Andy C fan and you soon will give him a run for the money..Dont change a thing ....just more video.....
Hi I always watch your channel you took on a lot of work with this one I did not see your dogs in this one maybe the workshop was a bit too cold for them Hope the project works out with the rebuild looking forward to part two greeting from the UK
The 2004-2005 models had a known issue with oil starvation and they fixed it by doing an “oil mod” make sure you look up how to find it and see if it has the oil mod done
I have a 06 YFZ can you tell me how can I know if they did the oil modern not? Please and ty
@@Godaboveall24_7 you could pull the clutch cover off and check for the little injector they put it for the mod… but 06 and up have never had a oil starvation issue if it does I’d check other things like cooling systems if it seems to be running hot and burning up rings and rod bearings
