At the very least I would postpone the wedding until that debt was paid because there's no way I'd be saddling myself with 10k worth of credit card bills just because my fiancee didn't want to send his thief mom to prison where she belonged.

      @@recycledapathy7411 Yeah honestly I feel for the husband and likely was manipulated by his mother all his life, but if he's not gonna stand up for himself to her with something as serious as FRAUD then who knows what else he'll let her get away with. I don't want to blame him, because he is a victim as well, but he puts his entire family in jeopardy (and hearing that this wasn't the only story with this MIL, it furthers my point and makes me honestly fear for the wife and kids.)

    Grandma showing up at the daycare should have been arrested for attempted kidnapping from that daycare. The daycare is an authorized reporter they are required to report things like that to the police. In the third story the grandmother can be charged with theft of human cremanes which in most states is the same as tampering with a corpse. It a high level misdemeanor.

    • @TellTalesRedditStory
      @TellTalesRedditStory 4 месяца назад +9

      Grandma showing up at the daycare definitely raised some eyebrows and could have been seen as a serious issue like attempted kidnapping. Daycares have to follow the rules and report things like that to the police. In the situation with the grandmother, she might also face charges for taking human remains, which is treated seriously in many states and is considered tampering with a corpse. That's no small matter and is classified as a high level misdemeanor.

    As a professional grandmother (I have 9, all but one either in high school, college, or almost 30), the grandmother stories really upset me. What the hell gives these women the thoughts that the kids are hers. They raised their own, it's time for the grown kids to do their raising of their kids. You're the grandmom, the confidant, the one who gives candy, toys, takes them for fun things, then hypes them up on Mt. Dew and sends them home. You can't take a kid from daycare if you aren't on the list and show your drivers license. No matter what you threaten (and I know because I did that job when my kids were little, the way I paid for the day care). Stealing ashes of a deceased child is just horrible, you may hurt, but the parents hurt much more than you can believe. And demanding an ashes necklace from that baby's remains is just ghoulish if the parents hadn't given them.
    I have no use for people like that. It's just way too evil for words in my opinion.

      Some states have grandparents rights. I don't think it's right unless the child is in danger. I've heard a story on one of these reddit channels where the grandparents got full custody of the baby just because they were friends with the judge and it was a single mother with no dad in the picture. It shouldn't be legal for a judge to handle a case when they know anyone involved in it.

    • @SerenaSilverMoon
      @SerenaSilverMoon 4 месяца назад +8

      @user-mama_thomas The judge shouldn't have been able to. That's a conflict of interest big time. And the judge and the grandparents should have sued. That's why most judges refuse themselves if they know one of the parties involved.

    • @norarivkis2513
      @norarivkis2513 4 месяца назад +5

      @@user-mama_thomas Usually, it indeed isn't legal -- at least not without the consent of all parties involved. Sometimes in small towns it's fairly common for judges to have *some* knowledge of almost everyone in their jurisdiction, though. In well run jurisdictions, those judges have to disclose their prior relationships and get the consent of both parties to hear the case despite them, but it's not true everywhere.

    • @francit4856
      @francit4856 4 месяца назад +6

      Actually per judicial rules (US) a judge is supposed to recuse themselves in cases involving family, friends and close acquaintances.

    • @norarivkis2513
      @norarivkis2513 4 месяца назад +2

      @@francit4856 Yes, but not necessarily in cases involving more distant acquaintances. Those were the ones I was describing, where local rules required them to get consent from both parties but not necessarily to recuse. With people in their close personal circle, they would recuse automatically.
      All that said, unless a litigant appeals the case on grounds of improper failure to recuse, there's little oversight if a judge doesn't follow those rules, and many people don't bother to appeal, or don't know that they can do so on those grounds.

    This happened to my friend. Her husband had an older sister. When the older sister had a baby she took her maternity leave. When it was time to return to work her In laws eagerly took over baby care.
    Then the younger son & his wife, several years later, had their first child. They had heard many stories about how the in laws had taken over child care & how wonderfully things worked out.
    As it was nearing time for the baby being born the parents to be asked when the grandparents to be would be quitting their jobs to assume child care. The grandparents to be were stunned. Both of them, for different companies, were top executives running major corporations. The grandparents were highly compensated, individuals who really enjoyed their jobs. They were very active in social positions & were community leaders. They were vigorous & active people who truly enjoyed their lives. The thought of entirely giving up their lives for child care was something they didn’t want to do.
    As you might expect the parents to be astonished & they felt betrayed. The grandparents to be also felt very upset. In the end the grandparents to be agreed to pay nearly all the expenses to hire a nanny. Later they paid for most of the cost for daycare. They paid for most of the expenses but believed the parents should at least pay for a small part of the child care expenses.

    I heard the fifth story before, and I don't know how OP could stay married to that guy. I would have divorced him in an instant. No man is worth being in credit card debt that you're not responsible for.
    Least of all for a reason such as "but she's my mom".

  • @dharmawannab

    My sister stole some of my mom's ashes and I now have gone no contact with her.
    3 years ago when my mom passed she was cremated per her wishes. Her ashes were staying with my dad again per her wishes. We all agreed not to split the ashes up. (Side note he is my step dad but I consider him my father in every form. He is the love of my mom's life and treated us kids like his own from day one) I mention this cause it goes to how important of a role his is and how him keeping my mom's ashes made sense.
    We got my mom's ashes the day of her memorial which was a surprise. My sister immediately asked my dad for some of the ashes and he said no. Which made sense to me as it was her memorial Day and he just got her back. He wasn't ready to say yes even if she had approached him better. Well she didn't take no for an answer. She did it in secret and only later confessed to what she did a year and a half later. Why she decided to tell me I don't know but she laughed when telling me about it.
    She felt entitled to taking them cause it was her mom and felt like my dad didn't have as much of a claim on her. Not so. We did what my mom wanted so infact my sister went against our mom's wishes and disrespected our dad and mom. My mom loves him and that to me puts him having the same claim as us kids. (If a person can claim another)
    Well after her memorial we all went out to eat at a restaurant she loved. We were all talking about how great it was to be there together and how we wish mom was there with us.....my sister laughed and I asked her why then but she shrugged me off.
    When she decided to confess what she did she brought us that dinner and asked if I remember her laughing. When I said I did, she stated mom was there because she had some of her ashes in her purse.
    The fact she thought it was funny then and funny when she was confessing was disgusting to me. I knew then I could never trust my sister again. This amongst other things my sister has said and done led me to finally stop talking to my sister.
    **Another side note I likely would have advocated for her to get some to put in a locket like she ended doing with some of the ashes she took. But she insisted she was more entitled to what she wanted others be damned.

    My brother died 2 years ago, I Mexico. We don't know from what and we never got to say goodbye, so I can understand how the grandmother felt about the ashes. But, I wanted a necklace with his ashes and I asked my parents, not demanded. And if someone stole them from us, no matter how they felt, I would fight to the death to get them back. Grandma was out of line. Just because she's grandma, does not mean she's entitled to anything she wants.
    And yeah, life gets in the way. We didn't do our necklaces until right before we drove to Denver to spread his ashes on the year anniversary. Dad did them, then came in and cried. I had a neighbor once whose kid drank oil that had been put in an empty Pepsi bottle, they ended up in the emergency room getting their stomach pumped.
    Also, those amusement park workers have to be out in the heat all day and have to wait until they are relieved to take a break and get refreshments, and you have the nerve to take away their source of hydration because you are too lazy to take your kid to a water fountain or too cheap to buy a drink from a refreshment stand.
