I loved this interview! Dr. Stein is both interesting and relatable, explaining hormesis clearly, with all the ways we can use it to help our bodies become stronger. It's a much broader topic than I had thought. I am reminded that when I had 2 bouts of bladder cancer 9 months apart, one of the suggestions from my naturopath was to alternate sitting in a small tub of very hot water for at least a minute, with icy cold water (the same). I had a kettle of boiling water and a bucket of ice to keep them both as hot and cold as I could stand. Interestingly enough, I had been disconnected from anything below the waist --- but these hot/cold sitz baths thoroughly woke up the whole area! I'm sure it helped flush toxins and "fed" the area with beneficial nutrients and anti-oxidants, but the biggest benefit I noticed was quite holistic. I could recognize and connect with that area with love and caring, when previously it had been a kind of "no man's land". Nobody likes being ignored, and neither do our bits and pieces! I am grateful to be empowered by these low-tech, low cost practices as a way to practice self care. Keep them coming, Jane --- what you're doing is so worth it!
