As Chinchilla even sings 'Sertraline and a sip of serotonin', my take is that it's all about psychopharmacology. Walking around in the floating chalk outline is stating that you're feeling dead inside, and the more of the medication you take, the more you erase You. The pill does however remove enough of the suffocating anxiety and depression that you at least can manage to fake smiles at the surrounding, pretending that the heavy, grey numbness inside is equal to feeling 'fine'.
".......take this one, wash it down and you' ll be fine........there's a pill for everything...." is what the doctors tell Ren & Chinchilla....they sing this duet with sarcasm and disgust.....it is their commentary on the quality of care they receive from the mental health 'professionals' and how they no longer feel like themselves.......(thanks for understanding, nancydenis8059)........
Yes, this spoke to how you lose yourself when you have to take meds for psychosis or depression .Lovely song with a heartbreaking message. Their live version of 'How to Be Me ' speaks to Ren's experience trying to cope after losing his good friend to su*×side. Chinchilla's voice soars and the synchronicity of their voices is amazing. Thanks 😁
Some of us need these meds to stabilize us. But when misdiagnosed, they can be the devil for a person who doesn’t need them.
How to be Me is absolutely a must. Their chemistry is magic!
Ren's situation is specific, but most of us seek some form of escape from time to time - easily relatable, intelligent lyrics from genuine talent. Fantastic.
4:13 That is KEY; You're doing it to yourself because you are not okay with yourself (ya don't accept you or your feelings and are either drawn to suppress or destroy :( thyself). In real trauma and Major Depressive Disorder etc this may have nothing to do with drugs. I did it for my whole childhood, unfortunately, because given isolation and after trauma I couldn't accept my being as valid... Thank God, after 40 years finally I can accept myself as valid... I am 40 now, so this song is quite something for me and the first time my childhood has been clearly portrayed, and in song no less. Like everything REN does the meanings are connected and run deep.
And the significance of the chair slap-cherophobia is the fear of being happy….

And then there are so many other amazing tracks from Ren ( Humble , Ocead Penitence and Crutch ) Then of course there is the Big Push the band Ren is/was in!
You think this live one take is impressive, you need to see Ren's "Money Game pt 3". Ren said it was the best and most ambitious music video he's made to date. It's 🤯 and you're truly missing out if you don't react to it SOON. It's not directly connected to part 1 & 2, it can be easily viewed as a standalone piece. You'll thank me!😁.

The phobia of being okay is called chairiphobia.
It’s basically saying that doctors prescribe meds to help with depression and it makes you a zombie (the chalk outline). That’s all that is offered to help. Either you take it or don’t. Both have consequences.
Chinchilla is as unique as Ren. Hopefully they will do more together in the future. #SaveSickBoi

You’re the first I’ve seen really appreciate that octave up from Chinchilla - musically might be my favourite part, but the whole thing is so well done. Right about the reverb, he always finds the best places!
I know from a loved ones experience that pills that are labeled psychotherapeutic often leave the person feeling devoid of any feeling at all, like being dead inside. Being a chalk outline seems like a good description. The best one can do then is put a smile over it.

It’s a hard balance between the overwhelm (usually negative and unsafe) of being uneducated and the underwhelming neutrality of being medicated.
It’s good to have the option but coming off the drugs and trying to live like a normal person is a risky stage. And the risk of slipping down into the dangerously negative again and not getting re-medicated in time. It’s an exhausting dance.
It's like he's walking around dead inside because of the meds.

Second time I watched the video, after knowing the song is about mood meds, I wondered something about the long intro. He's walking in the hallway and background noise starts growing until you hear a strong electronic sound and then silence. I interpret that as when you take the meds, all internal sounds stop to almost an uncomfortable silence. I'm probably reading too much into it, but Ren is very detailed in his songs and his videos. It's possible.

He was given anti depressants for CFS, and Bi Polar diagnosed wrongly
Years later discovering he had Lyme disease
He is currently in treatment for this and associated conditions in Canada He has been there since the beginning of the year

I love your reaction to these two amazing artists ❤ One thing not many people pick up on is when Ren first sings "Great Big Smile" if you look at the expression on his face and the subtle change in his vocals he sounds more sarcastic and disgusted by the fact that these drugs were essentially pushed on him (at least they were for him for many many years) he was misdiagnosed so many times that he said (in a few interviews I have seen of him) that he was told that his pain was "all in his head" so basically "here take another pill, wash it down and you'll be fine"
Chinchilla has been described by Ren himself as his Utlra Ego, they have been busking and signing together for years.
Their synchronicity is just sub par, the way they hold one another gaze throughout most of this performance is so heartwarming. Its as if they in that moment feel that they are the only ones who can truly understand what the other is going through.

I didn’t realize it had a name. I’m 72 and this has been a major fear for most of my life. “Afraid of being okay”, as Ren says. Since I discovered Ren, some of that has eased up, even if just a bit. ☮️❤️😎
