You are going to lose it when you see How to be Me. Besides the stunning vocals their ability to sing in unison is stunning. I am currently obsessing over both Elements and Fingers by Chinchilla. She is so talented.

Their timing is amazing in How to be me. Such a beautiful, sad song.
Agreed, the timing is insane. What's also insane, they specifically chose the rooftop to avoid acoustics, so there voices would cut off sharply. But the MOST impressive thing I've noticed, after dozens of times watching reactors with Ren is that he doesn't just use the acoustics, he literally controls what will echo by altering the way he sings vowel sounds (it's easiest to notice in Violet's Tale, as hard as that one is to watch).

He says "we trace ourselves with these chalk outlines" and then "erase ourselves with these chalk outlines" which I think means that we're killing ourselves or dying inside but still living. (floating outlines) "If not for long, if just for a while I'll bury myself with a great big smile" is pretending that everything is fine. Also, I don't know how many tries it took to get the best recording, but the video is done in one shot. How great is that 😍?? Emma, you mentioned Chinchilla's voice range which is amazing. Ren's range is absolutely incredible. He does a street show with his best friend Sam Tompkins. The video has 3 cover songs Earned It/Man's World/Fallin'

I feel like Ren is exactly who we needed right now.
I think the chalk outline refers to the sort of zombie-like state that a lot of medications, especially psychiatric medications, put you into. You're alive, and your extreme symptoms are under control, but you're not really yourself in some important ways. You're walking around already half dead.
I really, REALLY hope you'll react to Ren and Sam Tompkins busking, singing a medley of Earned It/Man's World/Falling. It's got great vocals, and also showcases Ren's guitar playing.
Exactly my thoughts, a friend that was prescribed Zoloft said she had to go outside in pajamas in the pouring rain just so she could feel SOMETHING. She wasn't severely depressed, so the numbness wasn't any sort of relief and she found a medication that worked "good enough", as you say a human mind stuck in a zombie was an unacceptable side-effect (Ren mentions side effects in "Sick Boi", as well).

How to be Me is a hugely emotional song/performance (The last couple of lines were specifically about his friend Joe who took his own life at 19. An extra element of poignancy is that it was recorded, apparently, on the top of a bridge. And it was a bridge that his friend killed himself from). Heavy but beautiful
Ren has been uploading videos for years- but he was mostly unknown till Hi Ren blew up- so obviously everyone is going through his old back catalogue and finding its all amazing too! We just never knew it was out there! I bet most of the views on even the old videos were all got since Hi Ren. Hence you are just as likely to be recommended a years old video as a new one.

I have been obsessed with Ren's music since discovering it. Of course, immediately after hearing this song, I went down the Chinchilla rabbit hole. Even after hearing this song literally hundreds of times, I still find myself welling up. I almost feel like we don't deserve either of these artists, they are too special. Please check out Chinchilla's live version of "Fingers" for HungerTV. It is a stripped down masterpiece that shook my world. I literally sat stunned for three straight minutes after hearing it for the first time.

I think the reason that it's getting so much attention recently is because he was basically unknown outside of his country and is newly discovered by the Internet and RUclips. He is absolutely amazing, covering different genres and styles of singing.

Hi guys, (might be not the first saying all this) the metaphor of the floating chalk outlines is really recognisable for people who have been in a major depression or been on anti-psychotic medication. Trying to fake it, finding new coping strategies, yet within the outward shell of chalk (with fuzzy edges and dust in the air) you feel nothingness, deadend...... Barely breathing. Second verse starts even with naming an anti-depressant setraline. Maybe the depression isn't as violently so you won't actively make an attempt, but still you feel so numb that being alive or not isn't something you care about. This song is such a good way of making psychiatrists and physicians understand what those pills are doing.... ❤
His range is equally ridiculous but he was generally staying in his lower registers, for the sake of the duet. :)
Ride the Ren wave, I first saw him performing on the streets in Brighton and have followed since. ( I am an old git of 65 and still get out and perform myself). When you get back to Country I would love to see you guys react to Townes Van Zandt doing Poncho and Lefty on Heartworn Highways. If you don't know it check it out you're in for a treat.

Hey, yo…wait. I’m one of those new subs and I’m at 2:18 and I paused to come and share something. I heard you jokingly describe yourselves as “coming on here and talking nonsense” and then , a quick take back , something like, well not entirely… As far as I can tell , jokes offer us a softer space to be vulnerable. I love to give talks about women’s health and I downplay my impact and worry and self criticize and it is exactly what I would have said, so I feel like I get it. I subscribed for the energy, the authenticity, the chemistry and the musical knowledge you have to talk about Ren from a perspective that I can’t possibly share. Now I’m inspired to go listen to your music. Put yourselves out there as you are and do what moves you. That’s what we love about Ren, after all.

For the record Chinchilla is Daisy Bertenshaw. London born singer who has played at Isle of Wight festival, (and others), Supported Sting on the European leg of his ‘My Songs’ arena tour in 2019 and McFly on their tour in 2021.

*Edit: you're going to see a lot of older Ren fans giving they're ages and background in comments sections. I think it's done primarily to express why they probably shouldn't be fans but still are. Most people in their 50's and 60's aren't open to new music and I think they're explaining that they aren't simply TikTokTeens glomming onto the latest trend. They've got decades of living life and have generally "seen it all" and yet, here they are...blown away.
I'm 52 and saying I'm not open to new music is really difficult to understand. I'm certainly not stuck in the 80s listening to hair metal bands. My tastes evolve and change as I get older. I'm a huge Jelly roll fan and I'm not a country fan.
Ren & chinchilla does few other songs but Chinchilla live version of finger. Is masterpiece & vocals our nuts. You won’t regret it.

I think this song is about prescriptions meds and Chinchilla represents the voice of addiction. If you look, you'll notice she is dressed like Ren and she appears out of nowhere when the lights flicker... just like Ren's other voice in "Hi Ren". The reference to chalk outlines... I think is because medications like one mentioned (Sertraline or otherwise known as "Zoloft") leave some people feeling dead inside. Most artist say they feel like they kill their creativity... eventually, they "ERASE" their identity. This song is sooo brilliant!

I latched on to Ren's music before the start of the pandemic when I also discovered his fantastic band The Big Push and had a deep dive in to his solo stuff collaborations with Sam Tomkins, Chinchilla, Eden Nash and Liv Sangster etc.
What amazed me was that every single song or live performance involving Ren was top notch and that I was witnessing a musical prodigy who had obviously suffered in life but lived for his art.
I would like to suggest a few live busking performances which highlight his incredible vocal and musical talent.
"Earned it/Mans World "and "Walking on the moon" with Sam Tomkins.
'Wade in the water" and 'I shot the sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop with The Big Push.
There are many others but I think these are the pinnacle of his performances!
That’s the bit that makes it so amazing is the live aspect it’s incredible when everyone else is trying to make “perfect” sounding music

Love watching people get Blown away by Rens Talent, Chinchilla is also a unbelievably good Vocalist, i thought i would not see them better than this then i watched Ren X Chinchilla - How To Be Me (live), that just blew my mind, especially when i found out the back story of the song being about a good friend Ren lost to suicide, and i'm told the song was recorded live on top the Bridge where his friend was lost and never found, which affects Ren to this Day.

Ren was part of a band called The Big Push busking. You might love their Manu Chao cover Bongo Bong or if you want your mind blown a bit more, their live performance where they do Bob Marley’s I Shot The Sherif. The video is them in the daytime on the street for the best view.
I agree with the live version of Ren X Chinchilla doing How to Be Me. The ending verse explains the song. It is heavy and heartbreaking. Be warned. It is about a friend of his.. think of that after the last line if you do that one.

When I dove into Chinchilla I found a performance she did in 2020 at the EMAs . It was a unique performance (awesome) . I felt the audience didn't comprehend how special she is , I mean watching you guys react to her ,and your excitement really is what I have come to expect from an audience when she performs. Also you are a 100% correct when you say that Ren chooses his collaborators brilliantly. OK maybe you only said well , but eventually you will say brilliantly . So much more to see from Ren . I cant speak for others or for Ren & Chinchilla's intended meaning but I can tell you, being prescribed on these types of meds myself, I've been on Sertraline, Fluoxetine, Citalopram and a couple of others over the years, when I take them as I'm supposed to I'm a pacified zombie, content to exist with no drive, desire or will to do anything like the docile cattle they want me to be, I'm the walking dead, hence floating chalk outlines, as I may as well be dead as that's all I'm waiting for while on the drugs, I'm asking my doc to cancel all my prescriptions next week, I'm done, one way or the other.

The floating Chalk Outlines refers to the psych meds and anti-depressants and how they take away absolutely all feelings. You're pretty much the walking dead.
Ren has a band called "The Big Push" and they have live videos on their RUclips page where they play street shows. They do amazing, and I mean amazing covers of Bob Marley's "I Shot The Sheriff" and Ren's voice sounds so much like Bob Marley's. They do an incredible cover of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs." They cover The Rolling Stones "Paint It Black" with Ren playing bass and it too is incredible. Also the Police "Walking On The Moon"
They also have an album out with their own songs. They're on hiatus because of Ren being in Canada. But the albums name is, Can Do Will Do. Everything can be found on The Big Push's RUclips page. The track list for the album is, Xbox Marijuana, Precious, All My Heroes, When She Goes, Mannequin, and Watch Out.

Got to admit the first couple of times I watched this the part when the come out of the acapella section and Chinchilla kicks it up a gear I got choked up. As everyone says look at the other Chinchilla collab How to be Me (live) very emotional if you know the back story. They also have a few FB vids busking covers in Brighton. Also look at Blind Eyed with Sam Tompkins either the busking version or the 'Angry Car Park Attendant version'. Great reaction and subbed

Once in a generation we witness someone who is a true artist and who can touch the lives of the masses.
Hendrix, Bowie, Mercury, I think though he may not want to be, Ren has penned his name to that list.
Lyrical and musical genius is like lightning in a bottle. Rare, mesmerising, and fascinating.
If he has impacted just 1% of the people who have heard his music over the past month then he has shifted their perspective of the world.
As someone who suffers with mental and physical health issues, who much like Ren rattles when I move, he's managed to put into words things I could never even say.
Having been told to listen to his music a few weeks ago and learning more of his history and struggles he has managed to recontextualise how I see myself and in his own way made my own struggles and degenerative health change focus.
As he and Chinchilla said I also saw myself as a floating chalk outline, a dead man walking, now I have just a little more strength to try and erase it if only for a little while.

My interpretation of the lyric (We Trace ourselves in these chalk outlines) we feel numb to the world around us, like walking dead, with this shit we're taking, Remember, he referred to it as floating chalk outlines. then the next Lyric is (We erase ourselves from these chalk outlines) to me this says, keeping this shit up we'll soon end up loosing ourselves completely until their is nothing left but the chalk outline.
I mean think about it, when I was young their wasn't any kids with a steady diet of Ritalin and Adderall, they were just known as overactive or insolent kids. Now these day's half the child population is on something because parents save the aggravation they'd get with a magic pill. Hell theirs a pill for everything these day's old and young, big pharma own's the government and its citizens.
Ren gives us all hope ,exactly I'm 45 and this is such a breath of fresh air

Doctors are always pleased when a patient 'wakes up' and shows signs of life.
Trouble is, these 'signs of life' are often escapism, thrill-seeking and ultimately a new addiction.

This always felt to me like the meaning of who you are as a person. Some people are told to take pills to make them feel better and some are told to take pills to make them more likeable, but a lot of people (myself included) always had this feeling that whatever the pills give you, it isn't you. You're not the pills nor what the pills turn you into so you're stuck in this mental loop of wanting to just be yourself without the artificial happiness of pills, but also hating their mind and how they are; not strong enough to do it on their own. It's a vicious loop to be stuck in - get better on your own or sell your soul to the pills that make you not you.

Let's storm the gates of Heaven (may be worded wrong) and plead for ren's healing. God's Will be done.

For a country reaction, I would love to see you react to Miranda Lambert's live performance of Tin Man at the 2017 ACM awards if you haven't heard it already. She wrote the song after her divorce from Blake Shelton and had to perform it in front of him.
Tin Man is an absolutely outstanding song - a real insight into the emotional turmoil of relationship breakdowns. A great choice there!

He currently resides in Calgary Alberta Canada, for his surgeries, and recovery for lyme disease, and health and mental problems associated with it. And his most recent song was Sick Boi, which was recorded after Hi Ren, in the same place, also in Hi Ren, there is an Easter Egg on the back of the Wheelchair, LD50 which has to do with taking too many drugs that basically lead to death from drug poisoning

I love how it’s more parallel melodies than true harmonies, and to start she almost goes underneath him. If you know John doe and Exene of X or the Knitters, they have a similar sort of parallel chemistry. This is my favorite of his so far.
