Yeah, i think a hiatus is coming too. Though i don't think it'll be as soon as you said. Unless the spin-offs utterly fail both critically and in viewing figures. Imo, that'll be the breaking point. Because whovians wanted a new spin off for a while. But this isn't exactly what we wanted. Especially since most new-who fans only really know the sea devils from that one awful Jodie episode. I think if you asked whovians what they wanted. They would likely have said just a straight up Unit show(like Pertwee's era, but without The Doctor), or maybe a new season of Torchwood with Gwen leading the team. But let's be honest. the number one thing i would guess i'm not alone in wanting is a miniseries with McGann. If i was RTD i'd throw McGann into the Unit/Sea Devils spin off as a surprise. Maybe just for one episode. Test the waters. Then go for a miniseries about The Doctor trying to run away from the Time War but always failing. Where the main show is about hope and optimism. The Time War would be about a Doctor slowly losing hope, and giving in to his darker tendancies. I think it would be great. Like timelord victorious if RTD didn't end it within 4 minutes of starting... What a waste that was. I wish Tennant's Doctor had stayed dark through end of Time.
But i don't know. Maybe it'll be great. I liked Ncuti's first season. So fingers crossed i'll like what comes next. The christmas special looks like a lot of fun.
NuWho definately needs a hiatus, imo the last 'good' series was Series 10, and then ideas started getting a bit staler, or less structured. Don't get me wrong, I love the energy that Ncuti brings to the Doctor, but its time for some new blood to direct these new eras, not just the same guy coming back every 10 or so years to fill a directorial position. The best thing to do is let the show unwind itself, have a hiatus, and maybe come back a decade or so later. It worked the first time after all.
RTD has said that him and old writers worked more on this season to basically reassure disney but the next season has a bunch of new writers and directors
