Disclose then for the frauds they are.
This why I luv watching ur guys vids to watch the owners cringe in fear💯🤣🤣🤣
Of course they have only calculated the eat all you can based on the average person, it's still business anyway and all they care is the profit but still you shouldn't have been cut off or asked to pay more cuz you're one in a million and it's not like they always have a customer such as you. But maybe they also feared that you'd go eat there everyday or charging you more is like they're saying please don't eat here often cuz we'd lose profit.😂
The song in the background haha!
That was so wrong! The owners could not get cheaper! The owners are embarrassing!
If the restaurant is advertising all you can eat on certain nights then it should be that exactly, if the restaurant can not afford to do so then, it shouldn't be advertised. Its that simple.
No dum dum. It's called they're not expecting the .000001 percent of losers in the world who do this for a living to come in and take money out of their til. They knew these guys were going to lose their profit that night, they could have disclosed it in exchange for free publicity. Oh you poor guys, you only had 8 plates.. pricks
@@rich8381 Well that's tough, in this day and age it's common knowledge that there are competitive eaters, so therefore, they should make the rules clear! However they didn't, so all you can eat means ALL a person can eat regardless...DUM DUM!!!
@@Guardianangel369 you can't expect some poor business owners from the old school to be in the lookout. You make it like there's competition eaters everywhere. Don’t wait for them to eat you out a whole box. That’s stupid on their behalf’s.
If restaurants can say ALL YOU CAN EAT as a marketing technique, they need to understand the risk that comes with it. It doesn’t say “eat until we think you have had enough”. They also don’t down charge people who eat 1/8th of the food a normal person eats, so they always win in the long run.
Q&b yea might as well say good bye to INTEGRITY, TRUST, RESPECT ETC. ITs A FU@KING FREE FOR ALL RIGHT!!! too many stupid idiots with no grace left in their minds, bodies, and souls, yummy🤮

This really bothers me because when I'm forced into an AYCE buffet situation, the restaurant makes bank. I've never been able to eat much food at one time, so I would have to stay all day to get my money's worth. I'll bet there are a lot more people like me than there are people like you guys, so it's only fair to honor the deal.
Exactly! I could have only eaten 2 pc and a couple fries, maybe! They make $$ on us!
I can only eat maybe 3 pieces of fish
100%!!!
I'm in the US and I've heard of restaurants cutting people off or asking to leave. Not saying it's right but it's been done. Asking you guys to pay more, in my opinion, is bullshit.
In every Chinese buffet when they see you eating too much they just give you the check lol is like saying you have enough fuck off 😂😂 my friends doesn't care tho.😂they keep eating ahahah

Ar the other fish and chips place he didn't have a problem paying more and made a big deal about not being allowed to. Shows you this guys true character 👌
The point of AYCE is having a large enough turnover of 'normal' customers who don't eat huge amounts, to cover the loss on those who DO eat a fuckload. If you don't have that turnover, don't have AYCE. It's very basic economics 😂
EXACTLY!!!! They wouldn't even have this deal if they didn't think they could earn money on it by stuffing people full of fries and some fish. They get 95% of people that earn them a good profit and, just maybe, 5% that break them for profit. Even less that actually cost them a loss.

They make money on 95% of every person that does the "All you can eat" deal, but when someone comes and actually DOES rise to the challenge they want to charge them cost? That's pretty poor business management. Sometimes you have to eat the profit. That's just business.
Bullshit. Joel is a freak. He should understand when he world doesn't align with him.... It would be like Shaq getting pissed that Mazda doesn't make the Miata to fit him.

Assuming they are not greedy gluttons
If a business is going to offer an AYCE at one price they should honor it or have a sliding scale like “AYCE” up to x amount of pieces then each additional piece is an extra $$. At least that way the customers know the real deal.

Joel isn't in the competitive eating scene, they would have no way to stop him from eating there. Major League Eating has a clause in their contracts about stuff like this, but Joel is not in a contract, therefore he is just a guy who eats a lot of food. A lot of restaurants are really struggling. Surely, you dont want to contribute to their going out of business. Absolutely think that any competitive eater should alert staff in advance and offer to pay double or triple.
Naw. They should charge more for the initial price or put a time limit on the AYCE deal. It’s balanced out. Not everyone who eats at AYCE establishments eat more than a serving or two. If the restaurant is hurting like that then they should end that particular deal. I understand what you are saying though. I don’t think it was their intention to put a restaurant out of business. Professionalism is professionalism. I wouldn’t go there and eat that much because I would make myself sick but then again I would never eat at a place that treats it’s customers that way. Smh.
@@mercedesjones998 My guess is they had never had customers who could eat 5 portions or more doing the all you can eat. And that they likely will impose limits now. So Joel played within the rules I guess in sitting down to get it. I just feel like Joel should know better, and should be gracious in informing the business in advance what he's about to do. Same goes for any competitive eater going to buffet or doing all you can eat. Would it really kill them to pay double? I'm sure they are making enough off the youtube views to cover the extra 20 or 30 bucks.
@@robbiedaniels2164 yeah I sort of agree. It's not like sticking it to the man at Wal-Mart or McDonald's where they make billions off of customers... It's clearly a local mom & pop type place struggling to keep the lights on during the covid lockdowns. Probably weren't expecting 2 world-class competitive eaters to come in and clear out their entire supply of fish n' chips...
If restaurants are struggling, then don't offer all you can eat
If they go out of business over a box of fish they weren't going to survive. Surely you don't think the business has no onus to ensure their own profitability by for example setting rules which would keep someone from eating their profits?
I don’t think most small places expect professional eaters to take advantage of that kind of deal. Even a food challenge has limits and $. Small places can’t compete.
Especially with these businesses struggling currently just to open their doors due to this pandemic.
Then they shouldn't offer AYCE then and being a professional eater has nothing to do with it because it is AYCE for 1 flat price[in this case $15]
@@vlm69 It's also just using some common sense. Was their point to make the business go broke? There's no other customers coming in and they are eating the place dry. It's not hard to be reasonable.
exactly my man. I see both sides.... these places are loosing a lot of money on this deal... they expect people to eat a certain amount.. these guys are blowing the doors off. perhaps they should call ahead and have a friendly conversation with the owner.. explain who you are, and what you do, and what you're capable of... how they will get exposure, avg views, etc. and make sure they are OK with it before you come in and eat $200 worth of food and only pay $15. As others mentioned these small restaurants are really struggling. Its gotta hurt when someone cleans out their inventory on an AYCE deal.

As a consumer, I'd be pretty upset if I was asked to pay more than the price advertised. $15 was the price the owner set. That was the arrangement going into this thing. Realistically he can't be upset that he underpriced his product. Pandemic or not.
I wouldn't be upset at all. I'd simply refuse. If they want to call the police or take me to court so they can be laughed out of business, they're free to do so. I'm happy to pay the advertised, as much as cutting me off is still false advertising, but not a single penny more.
This guy knows what's up
I would have asked them two questions:
1)Do you give prorated refunds to eaters who eat less?
2)If you were to go to a casino and won the jackpot, what would you say if the casino staff told you they wouldn't pay out the entire jackpot, because it's too much for them?
It's not a casino or a big chain restaurant. It's a small business. Not the same thing. If they want to cut someone off they can. If every competitive eater around took advantage of this they would go out of business.
I feel bad for any small business losing money, but if they agreed to the deal they have to live with it. If a poor person comes in asking for the AYCE and eats less than what they paid for should they be given a refund? Obviously that is the morally correct solution.
Just so you know - In most countries - including CA and USA - you can demand your money back if you already payed - and if you haven't the restaurant can't demand payment if they advertise "All you can eat" and then cut you off. It basically falls under the broad category of "false advertising". They ARE however allowed to cut you off at any point... so if they see you walk in the door and recognize you they are allowed to "not sell you the product" - or enter an agreement about a maximum at that point.
This is true. I worked in charge backs, which means if a business is in the wrong or does false advertising or makes you ill you can get your money returned to you.
Look up CCPA yes you can get your money back for false advertising
when you’re trying to keep your (seemingly empty) business running, you might not want two dudes that have stomach capacities equal to 20 men at your $15 AYCE fish and chips spot 😂

That was kind of rude though. To talk to them about charging them more after the fact. I could understand telling them " hey you each had 12 pieces of fish, there will be a upcharge for more fish.but the way the manager came at them it seemed like harassment
I dont know, how is it a harrasment. They are running small business owners to suffer at the cost of their inhumane capabilities. Food outlets keep one man's margin of eating equal to two men, but would you ever expect that two men will come to your restraunt and eat the food of 20 men. They have established food chain for business, not for charity.
@@nobelcreature6201 there are ways of mitigating your losses without harassment. Also these kind of ppl are 1 in a million ppl they are very rare. Its like someone beating the house in Vegas and trying not to pay them because they have some sort of clairvoyant capabilites. Every non and then someone gets very lucky and takes the casino for millions. That is the chance a casino takes when it opens its doors for business. My ex husband was never a professional eater. He was an average size (5'9" 150 pounds) guy. He had an incredible metabolism. Many times we'd go to a buffet and they'd lose money on him. Really I'd say they broke even on the two of us because I was and still am a vegetarian. My husband a die-hard carnivore. But any establishment can't do a "bait and switch" quoting one price and then force you to pay another price because you can eat a lot of a pricey food! Most restaurants enjoyed seeing my husband put away all that food. They couldn't believe how much he could eat!
The real mistake was serving just fish... throw in a bunch of fries with each helping & it's guaranteed you wouldn't eat that much fish...
But they were getting fries.
@@roberttaylor3118 they only got fries a couple times.
Being professional eaters, it would be a "better look" if they ate fries with every plate. 10lbs of fish for 5 people would $75 for the restaurant. And non-pro eaters would have probably eaten more fries and less fish.
Its not unlimited fries or ayce fries
This reminds me of the time that Red Lobster decided to do an AYCE crab legs for $25. I only saw the ad once and it was late at night. I called the restaurant the next day to verify and it was on. My family and I (party of 8) we went to Red Lobster and tore it up. They would only bring out 2lbs at a time I think, but I didn't mind that because I hate when my crab legs get cold anyway. We didn't get kicked out or anything, but we ate ALOT! I know each of us ate about $100 worth of crab legs. Red Lobster later stated that they lost $2 million on that AYCE. Needless to say, they never did that again. LOL.
But in this case, I don't think that it is fair to ask them to pay more or cut them off. AYCE places have to account for the occasional person that will come in and eat way more than what they pay for. But there are also always a lot of people that come in and don't eat $15 worth. Although I will say that $15 is pretty cheap for an AYCE fish place. This looks like a small place, and this should have been a time to re-evaluate the business decision to do an AYCE. Maybe they could do a fine print, up to 8 pieces or something like that and a different price after that.
That is an awesome story. You And your family probably still talk about that day Ahahaha.
I love that!
@TYRESE RICHARDSON ok. but I didn't realize that I was on your channel. Ohhhh.... I'm not!
I agree. There's 4 of us in my family. So when we got to all you can eat places we can eat alot. They need to have some kind of rules so they aren't getting bad reviews. A lot of people wouldn't come back if they were asked to pay more. If more people was there and heard that they'd probably leave or not come back. I mean a box of fish only cost maybe $20 to $25 o guess depending on where you're at.
My thing with buffets is quantity of food for the 💵 until I'm full, which is usually after the third or fourth plate. I don't do unauthorized "challenges" or "contests" to see how much I can slam down. I want to enjoy my food and I don't want to be on the throne forever later on or the next day. I take only the amount of food I know I can finish on my plate, and I finish it, before I set it aside for the busser, and return to the buffet. I don't like up a huge amount of food, eat half the plate or less, set it aside, and repeat. I've seen a lot of plates of uneaten food piled up on tables. That's wasteful, and understandably makes the restaurant management mad. Joel to his credit at least finishes his plates.
19:50 Joel completely baffled hahahahaha 🤣 this is hilarious!! "You boys showed up and put in work" ...I mean, it's all you can eat after all 💪🙌😂
Maybe a small business shouldn't be offering AYCE in these times if they can't afford taking a hit....
I get that they want to bring people in, but there's different ways to go about it that won't end in double charging people
how often do you think they get competitive eaters in there? these are desperate times...
@@andrewb4984 True they are desperate times, but they are choosing to be an all you can eat restaurant. If they are losing money this way, maybe they should change that and come up with a new way for people to pay where they will profit. That is the restaurants problem, not theirs.
If they want to limit you it should say like “15$ up to 6 plates” and state the extra charge after that. Such poor way to conduct business and ill marketing
I agree
If stated it’s fair
Smaller, local places may be struggling due to covid and all the shut downs. I think communication would have helped. Maybe next time call ahead and inform them you're a "pro eater". Also in the US at least, a restaurant can only seat so many people. It's harder to get certain food in, ect.
EDIT: A great way to support local would be to film at a restaurant eating their daily specials or interesting meals! Save the AYCE for a chain that can afford to have 20 fish eaten in one hour.
Ayce is ayce false advertising is false advertising so it's not ayce covid or no covid

@@keithwebb9839 The business offered it, don't blame these guys!
I'm actually torn about this exact issue. On one side, it SAYS AYCE, so technically they SHOULD honor it. On the other side, it's so unusual to have someone like both of you that can eat THAT MUCH, that for a small business it can be brutal to their operation. I just think that you guys have to take a step back and consider how your visit is going to impact the places you visit. It makes the video awkward and not enjoyable to watch.
The restaurant could put conditions on all you can eat, must have chips with each serving of fish, and maybe put a limit say up to 10 servings not many people are going to say that’s not fair
You know what really made the video awkward? The people that work there making it weird by question them about how much they are eating in an ALL YOU CAN EAT sale. They messed up big time, stop making Joel and Scott out to look bad for this.
They shouldn’t advertise ayce then
Then dont offer AYCE. Not every customer will eat 1 or 2 rounds only. Imagine going to a buffet and being cutoff.....you'd be singing a diff tune 🙄🙄🙄
Joel and Scott are obviously quite fit, I wonder if they were 400lbs each would an owner have the balls to ask or tell them they should stop eating. That would probably get the business shut down.
Mixed feeling on this one, you being a professional eater out of respect I would think you should let the establishment know ahead of time that you would be consuming a lot of food at the same time giving them a review online that could be good advertisement for them. That would also give you & them the opportunity to discuss if there are any limits & extra charges. Restaurants already work on a very low rate of return on food & with the pandemic it is even worse. I know they are offering it as AYCE but places like this typically do this on a limited scale to reward their regular customers & usually during hours that might be typically slow to pick up business. By not being upfront the establishment is now been put in a position to have to change their AYCE rules going forward that can hurt their regular clients. Be the professional, that way there are no issues like you had. That being said you should not have to pay more in the end because that was not established from the beginning, they should have just let you know they were going to have to change their policy going forward that you were fine this time & thanks for coming & hope you enjoyed the fish! I think you should be fair & promote the establishment in your video if the food was good. Of course this is just my opinion. 🤷♂️
AYCE means AYCE. Nuff said.
Just went for dinner tonight. People can do math.
fancy chicken sandwich paid 23.95 - chicken breast,1.80 bun .50 cents, salad 1.50 (food markup 800%)
24 oz draft beer paid $7.99 on sale - cost of 24 oz of draft beer 1.00, maybe (alcohol markup 800%)
Yes i know they have staff, rent and heat etc. but so does every other business.
I'm tired of people bs'ing about no mark up in food...it's right there in front of your face and everyone knows because they buy it everyday at the grocery store at RETAIL prices.
Plus the extra tip and taxes and eating out is unaffordable for a lot of families.

@@MrBurlyboxing are they Really struggling?
Ok so do you feel worse now knowing the restaurant is prob empty EVEN on AYCE night maybe because of other reasons (like clearly not great attitude towards customers)? Do you feel worse knowing they lost out on a lot of free advertising (again because clearly not great attitude towards customers)? Do you feel worse when they very kindly and gently stated that there were other service and quality issues (again clearly not concerned about customer's experience)?
I mean I could go on, but if the restaurant ran their business better, the video would have gone MUCH differently. So I wouldn't feel "bad" for them.
I think their lesson here is either put a max on how much you’re allowed to eat or a time frame. The Nordic lodge in RI is pricy seafood yet they have it all and it’s all you can eat in 1hr...
Or all you can eat or number of pieces . Max 10
Nordic Lodge is a 2hr limit.

You cannot change the price after the consumer ate, there are people that have just the exact amount of money, some people have to save all week to go out and spend $15 , and after they ate, and go to pay, and the owner said By the way, it is $25 for your meal, because we changed the price as you just put the last bite in your mouth,,
No! That is illegal,

I understand that small businesses are hurting rn but honestly they shouldn’t offer an all you can item on the menu if they* can’t afford it.
Yep thats false advertisement if you end up charging again for an ayce
They aren’t taking in account for two competitive eaters to sit there for 4+ hours, in totally gluttony, taking advantage of a 15 AYCE . Im sure they assumed two professionals like themselves would be more professional. Talk to them before hand, offer to pay a little more. I'm with you Joel (and the vast majority on here) who have said that they can't charge more and shouldn't be asking you to pay more.
IMHO where they messed up is that you don't have to order chips but can just keep ordering fish alone.
What they need to do is change the Ts&Cs of their deal i.e. it is AYCE but each round is a plate of fish and chips (you have to eat the whole plate of food and then they will bring you another plate of Fish & Chips).
Also for every one customer like you who has a healthy appetite, there are plenty of others that the establishment is making a healthy margin from.
Wrong on both parts - yes AYCE should mean that but in the current climate there should be a limit either food or time ; over the limit should mean paying more. Wrong on Joel’s part because you are not a regular customer/diner and should at least inform the restaurant before hand.
Would have respected you if you paid more
You're right. It was "small" of him to not pay, as this isn't a "challenge" restaurant. When they do the challenge they show the COST if you fail, which is usually anywhere from $49.99 to $89.99, so he was in the wrong.
He isn’t a competitive eater he can just eat a lot. They should have put a disclaimer vs saying all you can eat.
Well, if we’re talking about current climate then they shouldn’t advertise AYCE at all then. What if a family or a group of friends of 4-5 eat the same amount as Joel and Scott? It’s the same thing.
This cat Joel knows how to hold his tongue. Respect.
Idk... I think it’s a bit harsh on your guys part knowing that you can eat 5 pounds of fish each. You knowingly walk into these places expecting to shell out their whole kitchen and then act surprised when the restaurant can’t afford that. Like someone else said, big chain restaurants or big hotel buffets this wouldn’t be a problem but it did look like you two were the only ones in here
Not to mention you guys know damn well that “all you can eat” is measured for the AVERAGE person who would eat 2 or 3 plates max, not 10 pounds of fish 😁
This appears yet again to be a small business not a chain not a place with deep pockets. Not like there is any reason they would be struggling trying to drum up business. All you can eat for a normal person, loss leader in the expectation that additional people come with you and order other items.Come on guys, you're smart enough to ask if what you were planning to do was ok. Try and be considerate and understanding but easy to say you care harder when you actually have to show it.

Absolutely. My local chippy does fresh fish when you go in and you're not in there for long waiting!
I can understand when all you can eat places like that limit how much you get at once to avoid waste, but yeah there's no reason to be so slow bringing it out if it's being eaten. But I would have at least left a good tip or bought some drinks. Case and point, when you are in the US at food challenges, you win the meal for free, but then you order 100 bucks in desserts and probably tip like a baller. I couldnt agree more. He said generous with his words? Um what? You are eating a small business quite possibly literally out of house and home by doing what you're doing...come on and was loving the food until he got cut off ..
In my opinion in order to avoid disappointment I would make a disclaimer when starting eating, saying something along the lines “I can eat a lot of food, just wanted to make sure that you are ok with that and there won’t be any issues afterwards”. This way you give the owner the opportunity to take the loss or not. I understand that you are offering them exposure but some small businesses might not understand that. The problem is that fish or meat are usually quite expensive and it can be quite a loss. In my opinion it’s fair play to give them a warning, of course the restaurant could’ve handled it more graciously.
They should just not do an AYCE then.
@@cwagnello I disagree. They are an exception not the rule. There are people who eat a lot but rarely like that! They went in 2 too! Like I said a warning wouldn’t have hurt.
@@cwagnello also it’s all you can eat fish and chips. They ate mostly fish. It would’ve been correct to eat a portion of chips with every piece of fish. I would’ve liked to see how many they would’ve eaten then, but this is the restaurant mistake that they didn’t impose that. I don’t know how it’s in the US but in the Uk I can’t even eat a third of the chips portion in fish and chips shops!
Or (Owners) AYCE, disclaimer 30pieces max..or 45mins seating only.. something they would write in France🤪🤣
If they are a struggling Buisness then they shouldn’t offer all you can eat.
times are difficult for the restaurant industry... especially, if you're just a mom and pop place.
@@andrewb4984 then the answer is to explain that they can afford it and didn’t expect a professional eater. If they were honest and told him they were struggling Joel seems like a nice enough and reasonable enough person to understand. Charging more is unethical, illegal, they may lose business from people who have seen this video and live in the area. Joel and Scott were (almost) free advertising. Even if that whole box was $100 which I doubt it would have been worth it for customers that would have come in. I’ve seen you make this same comment a few times? Are you the owner?
@@TaviaShadowstar11 I dont disagree with anything you've written. But consider this, there wouldnt be any negative comments at all if this wasnt done during the pandemic. We'd ALL be on his side. Joel is a proper Canadian. I bet you he paid extra anyway.
Nope. Not the owner just bored. But, every comment helps the channel. An awkward video, but I'll definitely keep watching. Cheers!👍
They had no customers at all for hours.. should have closed themselves down.
most struggling businesses do AYCE to get customers in the door. it’s generally a loss leader for restaurants who periodically offer it.
