Of course they have only calculated the eat all you can based on the average person, it's still business anyway and all they care is the profit but still you shouldn't have been cut off or asked to pay more cuz you're one in a million and it's not like they always have a customer such as you. But maybe they also feared that you'd go eat there everyday or charging you more is like they're saying please don't eat here often cuz we'd lose profit.😂

Ok... So... Let me explain from a restaurant point of view...
Most restaurants dont anticipate a professional eater coming in on a friday night. Especially what looks to be a mom n pop shop. On average 15 to 20 orders go out on something like this and the people who do order this may get 2 or 3 "refills"... Please take this into consideration when you go into some place like this. A case of fish isnt cheap. And im sure they hoped they would have made a profit on rather than taking a huge financial loss on several cases of fish for $15.

This reminds me of the time that Red Lobster decided to do an AYCE crab legs for $25. I only saw the ad once and it was late at night. I called the restaurant the next day to verify and it was on. My family and I (party of 8) we went to Red Lobster and tore it up. They would only bring out 2lbs at a time I think, but I didn't mind that because I hate when my crab legs get cold anyway. We didn't get kicked out or anything, but we ate ALOT! I know each of us ate about $100 worth of crab legs. Red Lobster later stated that they lost $2 million on that AYCE. Needless to say, they never did that again. LOL.
But in this case, I don't think that it is fair to ask them to pay more or cut them off. AYCE places have to account for the occasional person that will come in and eat way more than what they pay for. But there are also always a lot of people that come in and don't eat $15 worth. Although I will say that $15 is pretty cheap for an AYCE fish place. This looks like a small place, and this should have been a time to re-evaluate the business decision to do an AYCE. Maybe they could do a fine print, up to 8 pieces or something like that and a different price after that.

My thing with buffets is quantity of food for the 💵 until I'm full, which is usually after the third or fourth plate. I don't do unauthorized "challenges" or "contests" to see how much I can slam down. I want to enjoy my food and I don't want to be on the throne forever later on or the next day. I take only the amount of food I know I can finish on my plate, and I finish it, before I set it aside for the busser, and return to the buffet. I don't like up a huge amount of food, eat half the plate or less, set it aside, and repeat. I've seen a lot of plates of uneaten food piled up on tables. That's wasteful, and understandably makes the restaurant management mad. Joel to his credit at least finishes his plates.

Since you brought it up as being a matter of principle, one could argue it could be a matter of principle to give a restaurant like this a heads up that two guys who can put away 10 pounds of food each would be visiting so they could plan their inventory accordingly. No restaurant without a published food challenge is expecting to accommodate someone who can do that, let alone 2 at once, and lots of people don’t know there are even people out there who can eat that much in one sitting. I certainly didn’t until I ran across your videos, Randy’s, Katina’s, Raina’s. I’m still amazed that a human can eat that much.

Mixed feeling on this one, you being a professional eater out of respect I would think you should let the establishment know ahead of time that you would be consuming a lot of food at the same time giving them a review online that could be good advertisement for them. That would also give you & them the opportunity to discuss if there are any limits & extra charges. Restaurants already work on a very low rate of return on food & with the pandemic it is even worse. I know they are offering it as AYCE but places like this typically do this on a limited scale to reward their regular customers & usually during hours that might be typically slow to pick up business. By not being upfront the establishment is now been put in a position to have to change their AYCE rules going forward that can hurt their regular clients. Be the professional, that way there are no issues like you had. That being said you should not have to pay more in the end because that was not established from the beginning, they should have just let you know they were going to have to change their policy going forward that you were fine this time & thanks for coming & hope you enjoyed the fish! I think you should be fair & promote the establishment in your video if the food was good. Of course this is just my opinion. 🤷‍♂️

I'm mixed on this one. I dont think anyone has in their business model to have 2 guys eat at a box of fish. Between them both it was about 30 pieces. Average person eats 2 maybe 3. They ate at least $150 in fish and were annoyed they couldn't take advantage of eating more. I doubt anyone thinks to put a max limit on something like that, however that is truly the business' fault for not doing so.
The awkwardness from the employees came from the possibility of being in trouble by either higher management or ownership IMO.
I'm looking at this from a different perspective as someone who has owned and worked in the restaurant industry for 20yrs.
At the end of the day it did say all you can eat. So it is what it is.

Joel, my man, what are you up to?? You shouldn’t be going to AYCE places. What are you trying to achieve by going to these places? If you’re going to these places to promote them, why don’t you tell them who you are and how much you can eat? You’re an extreme/professional/competitive eater. It’s not fair on a small business for you to go and eat them out if business.
Granted it’s completely silly for an AYCE model to serve just one type of food with little carbs. But it’s not your place to go to these places and start a frenzy.
You’re one of the most polite decent objective people I’ve seen online and I can’t understand why you want to put yourself in these types of situations? Are you “fishing” for a fight or truly naive about the fact that big eaters like you shouldn’t be at these specialist AYCE places. Maybe a Buffett, fine but a small restaurant trying to make a buck in these tough times?
If I owned an AYCE small diner, and I saw you coming, I wouldn’t let you in. Or at least I would discuss some mutually beneficial terms prior.
Big eaters are less than 1% of the population. It’s basically an unfair match-up.
As I said before, next time you go to one of these small-time AYCE’s, you should play fair and tell them who you are and what you can do.
Unless you just want fireworks on your videos for your audience...

Im sure they assumed two professionals like themselves would be more professional. Talk to them before hand, offer to pay a little more.
