I’m always impressed by your ability to get these small camcorders apart and even more so to get them back together, still functioning. Great job, Dave 👍

Hey man, I love ur channel, i've subbed recently.
I want to thank you for all your tips.
Because of you I was able to fix a TR4, broken viewfinder (fixed).
And also encouraged me to open it further and changed about 10 caps and it is working again.
Also your aligment videos helped me.
The TR4 is now at its prime, altough the aligment messes up if I do rewind or fastward. I do have a flawless TRV37 and I do rewind tapes there so I got that covered 😅

I’ve got a TR55E and a TR75E. The guide posts all fell out of the 55 and jammed it up. Attempted to replace the video out caps on both but solder pad broke off on both. The video was working on the 75 before the board tore. Must be very delicate, as I’ve had 3 boards that tore off in the same spot.

Your story of the "Pinto" guy is amazing as I had the same type of guy for years who used to show up when I worked at an Apple repair store. There is always the token "PITA" abbreviated for >>>>

Pinto Mike fled the country after causing a big wreck on the freeway. Road rage, he brake checked someone and caused a major pile up. He drove to the airport bought a 1 way ticket and was gone. At least that's what i heard. I remember the pike up 4 people killed.

Also the trick to filing claims with insurance companies is to file it, the same day the claim is approved and paid out switch to a different company keep your low rates.
I've had to do that after my dad died of cancer in 2018 and someone had found out. when I wasn't home someone kicked my house doors in two separate occasions.
did both claims and before my renewal, before it got registered in the national insurance database I switched companies still low rates everything was replaced.

I have to turn it just right for it to function

I have a TR55e which, literally disintegrated itself. I don't know what the hell happened. The charger that came with it also had a bad capacitor leakage. The caps inside the camera unsoldered by themselves lol. But this video was really helpful and I learnt how to dissassemble a 1989 Sony Handycam!

Very nice! Have you ever fixed the select/push dial on models like the CCDTRV65? Mine is jumping up and down in the menu selections/programs/exp. It also skips up and down to a super light touch to the dial without scrolling/pressing down. Such a nice camera but manual exp and navigating menus is a pain :/ you can eventually get it right by just letting it jump around until it stop on the right menu/option, but yeah. It's not ideal

Thanks for this instructional video. My CCD-TR5 work well, but I cannot view on tv the image. I still hear the sound but the image is mostly black with fuzzy colored lines like fantom image, although the image black and white in the little viewer is perfect. I have try the rca yellow/white cables, the antenna block set to channel 3 or 4 but still the same. I suspect the contact inside the jack is faulty. What do you think ?

Once upon a time in the not too distant past, UPS, FedEx, etc. would leave a package between the storm and inner door if it would fit and ring the door bell. Now, they toss your package on the porch and run for the truck.

I've only had one thing stolen recently and that was a dat recorder being sent in for service. Since that was not my loss I didn't make a claim, the guy that shipped it I'm sure made it claim. I did however have to spend hours upon hours of my time uncompensated time I might add getting the broker and taxes that FedEx assessed dealt with. Those pricks sent it to collections and collections are even bigger pricks to deal with than FedEx. 4:30 in the morning the phone rings and some goofball demanding payment. I tried telling the guy I never ordered anything I never received anything I don't know what these charges are but I'm not paying them and it falls on deaf ears with those sons of bitches.

i had changed the capacitors on this camera two years ago on both audio and video boards, it worked for 6 months after a while the sound stopped working on the video recording and there was a noise i was never able to fix it

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  2 года назад +1

Here is the thing when capacitors leak the liquid is mildly caustic. It soaks into the internal layers of the board and damaged the traces that run between the layers. When you recap and sell at a premium as "fully restored or recapped" you might feel warm and fuzzy all over but the person you sold it to won't be happy when it 6 months it breaks again and the service guy says sorry man, you got taken to the cleaner. None of these old cameras are worth more than 50 to 100 in working condition. I don't care if you paid someone 200 to recap it, it's not worth more then about 50 because the same thing is going to happen in short order. I'll tell you the story of a fella I know that bought a fully restored premium amplifier and he pretty much had to remortgage the house to buy it. Was an extremely rare piece and had many high bids on it. Was his pride and joy. Looked like it just came out of the box. No dents, scratches. Fully recapped and all the carbon resistors changed out for new thin film caps. You would think he was set for life and for the several thousand dollars he paid for it you would expect it would last forever right. Nope. Less than a year into ownership and probably about 200 hours of enjoyment he turned it on one day and zzzzyttttty. Flames shot out the top and it tripped his breaker. That was about 5 years ago. It's still broken. No parts are available. Cascading fault aparantly, an output failed taking out all the other parts in that channel and ultimately blowing the power transformer or so I was told. Now I have never looked at it, he took it to an audio specialist that told him there were no parts that could be substituted and that 20 years ago they were unavailable, and that he should use the money he was planning on spending to fix it to buy something else. Needless to say he wasn't happy. Now when i say I know of this person he is not a friend, or acquaintance, i was working at his house a few years back installing his fiber and ont in his garage and he had this big receiver that still looked great but was covered in dust up on a shelf. We started talking about audio equipment and he told me his eBay nightmare with this receiver that he had to buy because he wanted because it was his dream receiver from the late 70s. This is one of the reasons i tell people paying big bucks for this vintage gear they are fool's. This stuff wasn't that reliable back then. Transistors were not very reliable back in the 70s and those parts are as rare as hens teeth these days. I tell people that I know that but old equipment to pay only how much cash they feel comfortable putting a match to. It's much easier to set fire to a 100.00 bill and watch it burn than 10 or 20 of them. Perhaps you will do ok but the odds are against you with this old equipment that something will go wrong sooner than later.

You are right in what you say, I personally buy the cameras cheaply around €20, change the capacitors and when the cameras work I just keep them for my own entertainment to make my own videos 😉💖

@@salvatorev_ someone right now has a ccdv5000 listed up on Facebook I see they've dropped their price from $300 to $200. That's still more than I paid for that big professional beta cam that would have probably been 30,000 when it was new. Is worth about $20 if that because you know it's going to need about 100 capacitors replaced in it and even after replacing them you don't know how long it's going to last it may last only a few months.

@@12voltvids haha it's funny that they sell this rubbish for 200, I have the V-6000 Pro camera which is almost the same as the 5000, it just has more functions, I bought it from a German in very good condition with its accessories and a big original Sony box , I bought it for about 50 with shipping. I will try to change all the capacitors just for fun 🤣

@@salvatorev_ isn't the v6000 just the pal version of the 5000? There wasn't anything left off the 5000. It had a TBC, digital effects, AFM stereo and PCM digital sound that could be dubbed later. It looked almost exactly like the professional evw300 which I also used to own and just got one of them in for service so that will be fun to sit beside my BETACAM for shits and giggles. If I get it working I will do a comparison between professional hi8 and betacam. Actually I can do that now as I have a hi8 tape that was recorded with the one i had 25 years ago.

    • @12voltvids

You can force eject by applying a few volts to the loading motor. 3 volts from a couple of AA batteries will open the mechanism. The tape will get crunched a bit at that point but that generally isn't an issue.
