One thing not mentioned about professor Burp's bubble works were the smells pumped out throughout the ride - citrus, cherry, cream soda - along with the pervasive scent of chlorine - it was heady! and occasionally I'll still catch an aroma of something and be transported right back.

If you want to recreate that smell at home AromaPrime (the makers of the Bubblework smells) sell the scents used in the ride on their site along with little desktop diffusers. Bubblegum is the primary one that was used. You can combine it with a tiny drop of their Water Ride Dampness smell for something that comes pretty close. Hope this helps a fellow enthusiast out there because it took me forever to find it haha.

I grew up around Pittsburgh as a teen and I remember riding Garfield's Nightmare to get out of the heat, it was in bad shape the last couple of years it was in operation. The water was an opaque gray color, a lot of the animatronics just straight up didn't work (the vet needle wouldn't blow air, the pizza box stayed dormant, etc.), and as you could see in the video, the paint faded from most of the comic strip character's eyes. Thank God Kennywood Park finally listened to the dark ride fans and brought back the Old Mill.

As a Spaniard, the existence of Shima Spain Village always amazes me. Speaking of which here in Spain there is another ride that could have made it in this list: Tren del Terror (Train of Terror) at Madrid's wax museum, which is already quite infamous in Spain for how cheap looking the wax figures tend to be. The ride starts like a classic haunted house dark ride, with the queue looking like a haunted castle's dungeon and a first scene featuring giant rats, then the thing starts to make less sense once you enter a prehistoric jungle with dinosaurs and even a megalodon (which unfortunately is not submerged, such a missed opportunity to add submechanophobia to the mix), then you enter a spaceship with famous aliens from films like a Xenomorph or the Thing, which gets followed by a scene in the cantina from Star Wars, and later followed by a jungle featuring both Rambo and the Predator. So yeah, maybe not the weirdest but still pretty nonsensical
Edit: Now I just remembered too that the ride has various entrances and one of them is inside a nearly subway station

32:48 - As a Swede and a fan of your videos it's really odd seeing "Vi på Saltkråkan" in a video like this haha! Here's some more information: Astrid Lindgren is the same Astrid that wrote Pippi Longstocking, along with like 50 other kids books, some that have become big even outside of Sweden. She's one of out biggest authors, even if she primarily wrote kids books. "Saltkråkan" however was mostly just popular in Sweden, and was one of the few materials that Astrid worked on that wasn't a book first. She wrote the series after living at Stockholm archipelago and the whole tv series is a love letter to it. She was very much involved in the whole process of the tv series and the show is very well known (and loved) in Sweden still, even if it's from the 60's (and very dated). The man who played the old dad got so typecast and loved in the role that he barely got a single acting role again after the show was made, which he regretted for the rest of his life, despite the role being so well loved. People called him by his character's name instead of the actor's actual name.
33:54 - That's not a boy, that's a girl. She's trying to make her raven talk, because she once knew a raven that could talk but of course no one believes her. Neither did I (or anyone I know) when I saw this show as a kid. Imagine my surprise as I grew up and discovered that ravens can, in fact, talk!
The thing they do with the table at 34:05 is a thing they did every time they ate, I believe. It was just a quirky thing but it's one of those things that are so memorable from the show. They lift the table together and then put it down again with a small "boom!" so it smash into the floor again. Very memorable, and quirky.
There's a story about a seal cub they adopt, named Moses. There's also a story about two thieves (played by two of the biggest comedians and actors of the time in Sweden; Hasse & Tage) who pretty much just adopt and kidnap the baby of the series (the same girl who paints the walls with "blood" at 33:48 haha!).
The whole tv series is like a time capsule of 60's Stockholm archipelago, and if you like the 60's or Sweden or Astrid Lindgren I recommend it. It's really cute!

Heyo, Hershey native. Here's some fun facts about Reese's Xtreme Cup Challenge. The premise is loosely based on the old "You got chocolate in my peanut butter! You got peanut butter in my chocolate!" commercials from the 1970s. Believe it or not, chocolate and peanut butter as a combo was New and Exciting back then. The ride was installed in what used to be the original Hershey ice skating rink which was built back in the 1920s. It had a massive stone fireplace as its only form of heating. The Hershey Bears ice hockey team used it to practice until its untimely conversion, and it was occasionally used by the Hershey Figure Skating Club as well. As of 2018 it was re-themed to an even more perplexing story of evil alien breath mints trying to eliminate all candy. The set pieces are largely the same, but repainted with a rather Buzz Lightyear-esque art style and color scheme. The light guns remain intact, but are no more functional than they ever were, which is to say, not very.

Some additional context for the "Fantasy Dream" ride in Lotte World Adventure: While the parent company that opened the park now has a lot of different subsidiaries, it started out making gum and candy. Because of this, in much of Asia, people largely associate "Lotte" as a brand name with candy. This goes some way toward explaining the overall candy theme of the ride, if not the particular aesthetic choices.

I wrote it under the last video, but I say it again because it just needs to be said, but the Vietnamese dinosaur ride feels like if you had an AI design a dark ride, it's like the designers had only passing knowledge about Dinosaurs and Dark rides, so try their best to mesh the two.
Also, I just noticed, and I am shocked you didn't mention it in the video, but all the Dinosaurs look like they have human teeth too, further leaning into that uncanny valley effect.

The 'nurse' is the vet, Liz, she's a re-occuring character in the Garfield strip; the 'orca' is clearly one of them anglerfish-type deep sea monster fish (you can tell by the eyes); the Bubbleheads are playing squash, not badmington (they're making squash - y'know, dilutable juice? just add water? is it called squash in America?) and the gorilla is clearly called Kevin. Other than that, this was fine.

Haha! Vi på Saltkråkan was a scary tv show as well, though it wasn't intended to be. For some reason it had a strange atmosphere and horror music. The stories were of very mundane things, like the baby finding and eating the jam in the cupboard, the kids playing pirates, the author not being able to get any writing done due to being interrupted all the time by everyone, etc. The most spectacular one was when they found and took care of a baby seal named Moses. I think it had a little bit of drama between the islanders and the summer tourists coming over from the big city, that type of thing. I found it either unnerving or boring as a kid, a rather odd show. I preferred Pippi Longstockings. It did have beautiful nature shots though.

That foot scene in Dr. Burb's Bubbleworks at Chessington is something you might see in a live action Nickelodeon show created by "He who must not be named". Let us never speak about that after that docu-series came out.

HEY, I ridden this ride once in Kennywood Park, it was such a weird experience for me as a young kid/pre-teen. I never realized it was another ride years earlier, this was quite a fever dream, glad they got rid of it with a revamped version of the ride it replaced.

I’m a little upset that Cadabra, a ride I had first hand experience with, didn’t make this list. But I’m still pleased to see all the weirdness that did make it. As for suggestions, Symbolica from Efteling comes to mind as a strange dark ride. (And I’d love to see a full video on Monsters of Rock; top ten worst dark rides maybe?)

Last time I rode Monster Mansion, none of the music was playing, so all you heard was the ambient noise and voice over. It was really weird going through the party at the end with the lyrics on the wall but no music to go with it.

My twin sister and I loved doing the Reese's Xtreme Cup Challenge with our mom and her best friend (who we called our aunt). We would visit her in Pennsylvania and go to Hersheypark every year. My sister was obsessed with peanut butter so whoever was paired up with her HAD to be on the peanut butter side. My sister and I were so bummed to find out they changed it.

That's weird. The Wacky Factory was completely different when I rode it just a few years ago. There were very few animatronics or scenery, and it ended with "Age of Aquarius" playing as you go through the spinning hallway. The clown and the demonic tree were still there, though.

The other two big lost Dark Rides are probably the Pinball Ride and Living Island ride at The World of Sid and Marty Kroft. This was an indoor amusement park open for one season in downtown Atlanta. The Living Island ride was themed to HR Pufinstuff, but didn't have the overtly 70's groove of the pinball ride.

I have such fond childhood memories of the Bubble Works ride. It was genuinely a weird but wonderful experience. I can understand why they updated it and changed the theme to the Gruffalo. It had a lot removed already from when I was really young so it was already changing and it felt like it was time to give something else a try. Thankfully, the ride itself remains the same, along with the lovely water jet tunnels that were always a big hit with kids, so there is still the element of nostalgia you can get simply by being on the ride and ignoring the theme change. Also, they still sell some nostalgic merch in the gift shops to do with the Bubble Works as well as having a mural of the Professor on one of the buildings as they often leave remnants like that for older fans to smile at when they visit.

Bubbleworks was epic, my most missed ride in the UK. It did certainly die when Imperial Leather moved in. Jury is out if the Gruffalo is better than even that!

I remember going on Professor Burp’s Bubbleworks for couple years prior to it been closed. It was a joy to experience. Imperial Leather I only been one it twice, once in 2006 and the other time the day before it closed for good. The 2006 experience I can sum it up perfectly as soon as the ride begins down into the first scene where it feels like a graveyard and going completely worse from there (except the fountains). It might as well be considered for the Worst Retheme in Execution in Dark Ride History.

I remember travelling with my parents from the netherlands to warner brothers movie world somewhere between 2000 and 2010. It was such a massive let down, with so many weird and cheap rides. The one thing I remember about that gremlin ride was the extremely long pre show, where we had to watch old black and white movie bloopers. The ride we did like was a water flume ride with aliens and something about a bermuda triangle. Good old times 😂
