Whether a film has a satisfying ending I suppose comes down to if the core question the film proposes has been solved. In Infinity War, the question was "Will Thanos get the Infinity Stones and snap half of all life away?", which the film answers: He does. In Dead Man's Chest, the question was "Who will get the Dead Man's Chest?", which the film answers: Beckett gets the Dead Man's Chest. The problem with films like Dead Reckoning and Spider-Verse is that the core question is not answered. In Dead Reckoning, the question was "Will Ethan stop the A.I." which is not answered. And in Spider-Verse, the question of "Will Miles save his father without destroying the multiverse?" is not answered. Infinity War and Dead Man's Chest did have dangling plot threads of "What now that the universe is destroyed" and "How will we save Jack?" but they still answered that central question.
I don't know. Dead Reckoning was about acquiring the key. That's the mission he was sent on. The whole movie was about mcguffin. Once he got the key then it raised the next question, will he get to the submarine. I would say it's very much akin to Infinity War and Dead Man's Chest.
@@SeanChandlerTalksAbout I suppose that's fair. I personally didn't find it very satisfying, but technically speaking, the film was about finding the key.
I love this video, please more of this 😂 Also I’m sorry but in my opinion Madame Web is better than Morbius. I had fun with Madame Web even though it wasn’t too too great. But for me Morbius is just completely bad
I think Sony should negotiate a non-exclusive deal with Marvel. Let Marvel keep making MCU movies with Tom Holland, while Sony makes separate Spider-Man movies with a different actor. This would similar to DC's plan of having another Batman within the DCU who is completely different from Robert Pattinson's Batman.
That’s all still rumor, btw. There’s been nothing outside of an anonymous twitter account saying they were “told by insiders” that that’s what the state of things is. I feel like if there was any truth to that, there’d already be reports of Macguire or Garfield being in active talks with Sony about returning. Until something like that comes out, from a reputable source, I’m inclined to believe that someone just took advantage of Sony opening the gates for people to rag on them yet again with the release of Madame Web & dogpiled on with alleged Spidey 4 news that sounded plausible enough.
1) I feel that both Venom movies are overhated. They have the obnoxious action scenes that you go to these types of movies to see. Nonetheless, I still feel the movies are not very good. But they don't suck like everyone says. 2) Haven't seen Morbius on account all the bad reviews. 3) Same story with Madam Web. 4) I have no freaking clue what this person means by Across the Spiderverse ended nicely. It ended with a cliffhanger. To not follow up with a threequel would be disrespectful to how great the first two movies were. 5) Far From Home doesn't suck either, but it is a pretty bad film for both Spiderman and the MCU. There's no way that all of that damage could've truly been caused by holographs and what the drones were doing. 6) Again, haven't seen Madam Web 7) How dare you say the Raimi Spidey trilogy is overrated! While the third isn't great, there was a time when this is all we had for comic book movies. 8) Spider-verse movies are great! 9) Emma and Andrew were the best of the three Spidey couples. 10) Marvel could make way better Spider Man movies than Sony.
I’m 38 and totally agree with the Spider-Man trilogy take. Even at the time they came out, and with every rewatch, I thought they were so melodramatic and campy - not terrible (well, two of them), just kinda CW-feeling. I found each respective X-Men movie better: -X-Men 1 IMO is quite good (7.5/10) while Spider-Man 1 is fine (6.5) - X2 is great (9/10) while Spider-Man 2 is quite good (7.5?) - X3 is pretty bad (5/10) while Spider-Man 3 is a barely watchable disaster (3/10?) I’m aware most people would literally swap my X-Men and Spider-Man ratings 😅
X2 was literally my favorite superhero movie growing up! I agree with all your xmen ratings. I love the raimi trilogy so I would give Spider-man 1 an 8 and Spiderman 2 a 9. Spider-man 3 however is still a 3. I enjoy watching it but it just isnt a good movie IMO
At what point did Disney actually take over control of the MCU? I know they bought Marvel shortly after the first Iron Man, but it seemed to me that Kevin Feige maintained control without studio interference for quite some time. I'm guessing it was post-End Game with the rise of Disney+ and the MCU Parliament/Committee...
i agree with the far from home take, at least with it not being appealing to me. i found most of the supporting characters annoying and irritable, the jokes didn't land for me, and it didn't feel like a spiderman story imo. i also agree with the take of the spiderverse movies (particularly ATS) being a bit chaotic, cuz yea, it can be much for casual people. my hot take is: i don't love no way home. the first half of the movie is exactly how i feel about watching the other two holland movies, it's fine but not too impressed. then willem dafoe flipped the script and made it more exciting for me. still found some characters annoying, the throwback lines feel forced to me, and u can start to tell the film was hindered by the pandemic as people on youtube made more exciting renditions of the reunion. also, i feel we never got a real journey to this reunion....just didn't feel earned.
Having watched all four Spider-Man eras around the same time, I'm not a huge fan of the Raimi Trilogy, outside of the memes. Spider Man 3 will stand as my favorite for that reason alone. And on the other hand, ASM2 is my second favorite after No Way Home. I know, I'm insane, but it's just how i feel.
Something I’m curious about, Sean. You mention Deadpool not being appropriate for kids (and you’re absolutely right) but thinking back to my own experience as a kid, I’m wondering what will be (or was) the first R rated movie you show the kids? Not necessarily when you intend to do it, but what will it be? Mine was Terminator. I was reasonably young (either 10 or just under it) but after being both awed and thoroughly confused by the Terminator experience at Universal Studios, my parents decided I should see it. As a parent, which I will never be, you have unique control over that formative experience. What will it be?
I personally did not like Madame Web or Morbius, but I totally agree with respecting other people's enjoyment of these movies. In fact, if I had seen these when I was between the ages of 8 and 11, I would have loved them. I loved the 1984 version of Dune and was about that age when I first saw it and yet I've only ever heard people talk about what a terrible film it was throughout my life - apparently, even the director David Lynch hates it😥
I grew up with the Sam Raimi Spider-Man films and I absolutely love them for the most part, but I also think Spider-Man 2 is a bit overrated, and I can enjoy or not enjoy Spider-Man 3 depending on my mood. Spider-Man 1 though? That’s my favorite Spider-Man movie of all time
Really great video Sean especially that Sony discussion towards the end. I didn’t think Madame Web was bad. I understand why others didn’t but I appreciated that it went in that psychological action thriller direction.
I hate Star Wars, I just hate and NOBODY CAN TELL ME THAT IT ISN’T STUPID AND OVERRATED!!! So what? It’s a hot take video can’t I charge my hot take. Stupid just stupid
I kinda wished thye focused a bit more on Tony's death in far from home a bit more because the scenes we did get about it were amazing and I wish we had more
Across the Spiderverse wasn’t that big to me, so I think it’s overrated. It’s a good movie but I’d put 5 Spiderman movies above that. Into the Spiderverse was much better and more rewatchable. I kept getting bored about all the Spiderman intros. Like we get it you’re Spiderman. And Spot was just too silly of a villain.
My take, the TASM films are my favorites. Even over spider-verse. Especially TASM 2. I even like No Way Home more than any other Tom Holland or Tobey Maguire film
Another hot take: Although I really liked the Spider-Verse movies and understand the praise they get, I feel they are just a bit overhyped. I’d say I feel the same about them as I do about the Dark Knight: they’re still masterpieces, but not really deserving of being put on the “greatest comic book movies of all time” pedestal.
@@knyte8706I understand infinity war, but endgame is a DEEPLY flawed movie. It does a fantastic job at ending tony's arc but deeply mishandles both hulk and thor and the time travel stuff is such a mess. Certainly not better than either spider-verse movies which have way more consistent rules when it comes to stuff like the multiverse, and honestly just have stronger overall character work.
@@kbreezy1581 I’m not gonna act like Endgame doesn’t have its faults, cus it does (my biggest gripe being Captain Marvel). But the reason I’d give it that title of “one of the best comic book movies of all time” isn’t necessarily because it was the highest quality film, but because it was more than just a movie; it was an event. It was the epic conclusion to the biggest movie saga ever created that was over 11 years in the making. There’s no other movie (other than maybe Infinity War) that got absolutely everyone as hyped for it nearly as much as this one did. It was all everyone could talk about, and nearly every theater in my local cinema was only showing Endgame. I even had an experience where some jack-wads at my old school thought it would be funny to cover a classroom whiteboard in Endgame spoilers the day after it premiered. As much as I hated that, the mere fact that that even happened shows how massive the movie was. I never experienced anything like that with any other movie, not even the Spider-Verse films.
I honestly have some of that opinion on Garfield and Stone. I think they have some chemistry but its floundering among subpar scripts. It's the common rom com problem of good actors and a middling script. I understand the Marvel/Disney problem but I'm of the opinion that its hard to defend the other studios when they just don't produce the level of content (Deadpool and Logan were sandwiched by New Mutants and Dark Phoenix,so its not like Fox was firing at a hundred). I love the Spiderverse movies but the Sony Cinematic movies just suck. Hard to defend Sony sometimes.
Same and I was born in the 90s, it was the Spidey I grew up with but the more I connected with the Spider-man character the less I liked the Raimi films
I love hot take videos, but they unfortunately don’t do so well on my channel. Sean, do you have any other ideas you could come up with just to help me out? Edit: Also, Madame Web being better than Aquaman, WHAAAT lol?
I agree the acting, writing and humour in the Raimi trilogy is seriously cringy. I hate the campy tone. But then again i was born after the film's came out so i didn't grow up with them. I can understand how they were so good for the time. Also i cannot believe that person who said andrew and emma had no chemistry. Thats insane. They are by far the best live action Spiderman couple. Their chemistry was phenomenal and their performances felt so real and authentic
•Spiderman 2 is the best film of the entire franchise •Eddie Brock as Venom is better than a lot of things, sad the universe is blah •Andrew Garfield is the best spider-man & Tobey is the worst •Away From Home is so stupid mans brung 6 villains to the hideout
See, I want to agree with the rights argument, but there's still the current conflict with Spider-Man 4 where Sony wants to make a movie based on the fact that No Way Home made a billion dollars (despite the fact that no one wants it), while Kevin Feige and Tom Holland want to give the fans what they want.
Into the Spider-Verse should have just been one film. As much as I loved Across the Spider-Verse and very excited for Beyond the Spider-Verse to come out, the first one can stand on its own.
Even if sony made good films, I'd still want marvel to have all characters bcz i want Spider-Man to be fully integrated in the MCU and feel like an imp part of it I like the home trilogy but it feels disconnected to the MCU for some reason I can't really explain but it feels like if Spider-Man disappears from the MCU, the universe wouldn't be affected by any way which is probably bcz of sony contract I hope btsv is great and after that somehow magically sony loses Spider-Man rights bcz they don't care about Spider-Man or his fans and spiderverse films r great only bcz the creators had full creative freedom which probably won't happen for any other movie. Sony butchered Spider-Man 3, tasm & tasm2 and then had the Audacity to make venom films, morbius & madam web and kraven. Although i agree that I don't want every marvel project to be connected to MCU There should be else Worlds marvel stuff as well
It’s sad to say but we can’t count on Disney to make better Marvel movies than Sony anymore. Ok, so Sony made a couple bad ones, but Disney has failed every movie in phase 4 except for Guardians 3. They can’t be trusted anymore. Maybe they’ll correct things or we’ll just have to hope that DC comes in with some good ones. I’m just tired of all things Marvel at this point.
Idk wym about sony keeling spiderman. Sony has done nothing close to logan, joker or deadpool despite having freedom reign. Id rather the studio with a high success rate handle spiderman cuz sony has made a mockery of the property
Spiderman 3 is the best film in the sam raimi trilogy, and its better than the garfield movies, and edges out being better than all the home movies. This is probably the hottest take i possess
The Green Goblin costume in Spiderman 2002 is pretty stupid. While it is iconic. It covers up WAY to much of his performance. Making him feel less creepy like that character is supposed to be. I'm glad they destroyed the mask in No Way Home
Funny, my hot take was the opposite. I love the look of his mask and wish he had it on in more of NWH. I loved seeing more of Willem Dafoe’s amazing facial expressions, but once it got to the third act, he should’ve gotten the mask back, or at least the face part and combined it with a hood. Without it he just doesn’t look like the Goblin, he just looks like… well, Willem Dafoe. But I respect your opinion all the same!

Also, Disney Marvel has had its bombs as well like Secret Invasion for example.
There will actually be a part 2 in a couple of days
@@SeanChandlerTalksAboutYay I’m looking forward to it! These are too fun
The issue with Sony is all they want with Spider-Man 4 is just No Way Home again whilst Marvel wants to make a more street level film
Spider-man 3 was fantastic
Great video👍
Future Hot Takes: Mission impossible, Fast and furious, Transformers
There's a typo in the timestamps
Another fantastic video! Thank you
1) I feel that both Venom movies are overhated.
6) Again, haven't seen Madam Web
7) How dare you say the Raimi Spidey trilogy is overrated!
I found each respective X-Men movie better:
-X-Men 1 IMO is quite good (7.5/10) while Spider-Man 1 is fine (6.5)
- X2 is great (9/10) while Spider-Man 2 is quite good (7.5?)
- X3 is pretty bad (5/10) while Spider-Man 3 is a barely watchable disaster (3/10?)
I’m aware most people would literally swap my X-Men and Spider-Man ratings 😅
X2 was literally my favorite superhero movie growing up! I agree with all your xmen ratings. I love the raimi trilogy so I would give Spider-man 1 an 8 and Spiderman 2 a 9. Spider-man 3 however is still a 3. I enjoy watching it but it just isnt a good movie IMO
With Dune Part II out soon, any chance you’ll do maybe sci fi hot takes 👀💀💀💀
That's a good idea 🔥
At what point did Disney actually take over control of the MCU? I know they bought Marvel shortly after the first Iron Man, but it seemed to me that Kevin Feige maintained control without studio interference for quite some time. I'm guessing it was post-End Game with the rise of Disney+ and the MCU Parliament/Committee...
We need somebody to list movies and TV shows where actors were supposed to pretend to like each other but kept the romance alive off set.
10:57 Lmao after you read that my immediate thought was “How old is this guy?”
i agree with the far from home take, at least with it not being appealing to me. i found most of the supporting characters annoying and irritable, the jokes didn't land for me, and it didn't feel like a spiderman story imo. i also agree with the take of the spiderverse movies (particularly ATS) being a bit chaotic, cuz yea, it can be much for casual people.
my hot take is: i don't love no way home. the first half of the movie is exactly how i feel about watching the other two holland movies, it's fine but not too impressed. then willem dafoe flipped the script and made it more exciting for me. still found some characters annoying, the throwback lines feel forced to me, and u can start to tell the film was hindered by the pandemic as people on youtube made more exciting renditions of the reunion. also, i feel we never got a real journey to this reunion....just didn't feel earned.
Spider man 3 is better then tasm
Agreed tbh
The Andrew Garfield/Emma Stone take take is a very hot one.
I’m in my early 20s, and the raimi trilogy was VERY formative for me
Up to 7:35.
My Hot Take has always been that TASM2 is by far my favorite live action Spider-Man film (aside from maybe NWH)
Oh man, Sean, I love that Marc Webb directing a rom-com idea with Garfield & Stone. That would be fantastic!
Another round of MCU Hot Takes next? It would be fitting to make one closer to the opening night of Deadpool and Wolverine
Your putting this on a Spider-Man Hot Take Video?
Bold! You are Bold!
Absolutely great arguments against peoples comments Sean! Great content as always
Sean’s dog is in the background in the beginning.
To that last take, would you rather DC properties be split up? I don't see anyone wishing James Gunn give up certain properties to other studios
Then what movies would be put on there
@@frenchboi6826 probably Infinity War and Endgame.
Yes, i agree 100%. I liked those movies, but i don’t think they’re masterpieces.
Morbius is a great morbsterpiece.
#IBlameAviArad
I honestly have some of that opinion on Garfield and Stone. I think they have some chemistry but its floundering among subpar scripts. It's the common rom com problem of good actors and a middling script.
I understand the Marvel/Disney problem but I'm of the opinion that its hard to defend the other studios when they just don't produce the level of content (Deadpool and Logan were sandwiched by New Mutants and Dark Phoenix,so its not like Fox was firing at a hundred). I love the Spiderverse movies but the Sony Cinematic movies just suck. Hard to defend Sony sometimes.
Hot take: The 2 Andrew Garfield Spiderman movies are not as good as either Toby or Tom's 5 movies (not including No Way Home)
I don't think that's a hot take, and I agree, lol.
Sean should do a James Bond 007 hot takes video
When Morbius and madame web says "it's assemblin time" brings a chill down my bones.
Did you finish the CW Flash show/arrowverse and if you did could you do some rankings on it
Love your videos btw
Loved the FreedomToons reference!
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Your going to have a very bright son love to see how he just watching you lol good work all around Sean
i agree with the raimi trilogy take
Same and I was born in the 90s, it was the Spidey I grew up with but the more I connected with the Spider-man character the less I liked the Raimi films
I'm gonna put some dirt in your eye.
Ahhhh I was waiting all day for Dune Part II
Damn I really thought Sean would share mine in this.
I love hot take videos, but they unfortunately don’t do so well on my channel. Sean, do you have any other ideas you could come up with just to help me out?
Edit: Also, Madame Web being better than Aquaman, WHAAAT lol?
Sorry I didn’t hate Madame Web
16:17 where's this form
I agree the acting, writing and humour in the Raimi trilogy is seriously cringy. I hate the campy tone. But then again i was born after the film's came out so i didn't grow up with them. I can understand how they were so good for the time. Also i cannot believe that person who said andrew and emma had no chemistry. Thats insane. They are by far the best live action Spiderman couple. Their chemistry was phenomenal and their performances felt so real and authentic
•Spiderman 2 is the best film of the entire franchise
•Eddie Brock as Venom is better than a lot of things, sad the universe is blah
•Andrew Garfield is the best spider-man & Tobey is the worst
•Away From Home is so stupid mans brung 6 villains to the hideout
Let’s Go!!!
Hey are you gonna do a ranking for sony spiderverse movies ?
Did my ranking them by stupid not count? Haha
Since they have 3 movies coming this year, I’ll do it after the other ones
@@SeanChandlerTalksAbout fair point haha but i was more talking like a big ranking . where you ranked old spiderman movies aswell
Sean was speaking 100% facts good shit
I have one more hot take. Madame Web could have been WAY worse, it could have been directed by Zack Snyder.
Into the Spider-Verse should have just been one film. As much as I loved Across the Spider-Verse and very excited for Beyond the Spider-Verse to come out, the first one can stand on its own.
Damn! All these takes get keep getting spicier till the end of the video.
Even if sony made good films, I'd still want marvel to have all characters bcz i want Spider-Man to be fully integrated in the MCU and feel like an imp part of it
I like the home trilogy but it feels disconnected to the MCU for some reason
I can't really explain but it feels like if Spider-Man disappears from the MCU, the universe wouldn't be affected by any way which is probably bcz of sony contract
I hope btsv is great and after that somehow magically sony loses Spider-Man rights bcz they don't care about Spider-Man or his fans and spiderverse films r great only bcz the creators had full creative freedom which probably won't happen for any other movie.
Sony butchered Spider-Man 3, tasm & tasm2 and then had the Audacity to make venom films, morbius & madam web and kraven.
Although i agree that I don't want every marvel project to be connected to MCU
There should be else Worlds marvel stuff as well
It’s sad to say but we can’t count on Disney to make better Marvel movies than Sony anymore.
Hot take: Sony hasn’t made any good live action Spider-Man project since 2004😂
*On there own I should mention*
This shouldn’t even be a hot take honestly..
The amazing spider-man wasn’t that bad, though.
6:05 lol
Idk wym about sony keeling spiderman. Sony has done nothing close to logan, joker or deadpool despite having freedom reign. Id rather the studio with a high success rate handle spiderman cuz sony has made a mockery of the property
Spider-Man 3 > Madame Web
Spiderman 3 is the best film in the sam raimi trilogy, and its better than the garfield movies, and edges out being better than all the home movies. This is probably the hottest take i possess
Liam knows where it’s at 😂
The Green Goblin costume in Spiderman 2002 is pretty stupid.
Not Spider-Man related but my hot take is that X-Men Origins Wolverine is an enjoyable movie. The story isn’t great but the action is enjoyable
SONY ENTERTAINMENT also put out 2 GREAT Spiderman video games.
I love far from home
I love the Raimi trilogy . I used to hate part 3 but that film has grown on me . Andrew Garfield is my favorite Spider-man though.
I hope Sean gets a new intro
I like Topher Grace’s venom is better than Tom Hardy’s version..I guess due to me not liking the anti hero stuff and him not hating Spider-Man…yet
Whoever said Madame Web wasnt that bad shud reconsider their life decisions. That movie is worse than Howard the duck & Josstice League combined
Not gonna lie I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks Sony should still keep the rights for Spider-Man
