The education system adjusted passing grades so that the kids can pass even though in reality they are failing. It's all about data and statistics, not about the kids. I was a teacher for 20 yrs. and I saw so much happen in front of me. It made me question everything regarding our children's quality of education. It has gone down the drain since 2000.

I believe I was... a junior in high school when that first started, and when i found out that i could get a 50% without even turning in an assignment, I knew THEN that it wasn't a good idea! I remember going through Truck Driving School and the instructor would always ask us "what color was that green car that just passed us?" This is why jury duty needs to come with a basic knowledge test. Can you imagine someone who can't answer these questions deciding if you committed a crime.

My dad could work on any engine, was in WW2 (worked on spy planes), could hunt, fish , and garden, took care of his family and loved his wife.

I'm a college professor. It's actually much worse than this, and it gets worse all the time. Kids are passed to promote self-esteem whether they learn anything or not. They expect that to continue to happen, and since they also reek of entitlement, when they find out that college doesn't work that way, they throw temper tantrums.

@@majortom7038 One major problem this has led to is that we've had to lower standards in college. I cannot teach students what I used to. They wouldn't do the work needed to be able to understand it. People earning degrees now are, in general, less educated than people who earned degrees before 2010. But yes, some students do wake up, and of course, some of them haven't been raised with this "gentle parenting" BS. There are still young people with high IQs. We are doing them and the country a disservice by watering down college courses.

My mother read to us every night. My father took us to the public library. This was a family with five children.

Somehow none of these rules applied to me, I had to go to the school counselor because the math teacher kept failing my tests even though all the answers were right. On one of them she marked it as a 40 when I had 98% of the answers correct. Despite repeatedly going to the councilor with proof that she was failing me even though I was getting the answers correct, she never got fired or penalized, and my dad had to pay several hundred dollars for me to attend summer school, over that one class. She's still teaching, and of course she is a short haired feminist.

This is the saddest thing I have ever seen. They can’t tell time, count, know geography. It’s funny but makes you angry cause obviously when they started to only teach our children to take test and stopped actually teaching them information and basic subjects it all went to hell in a hand basket.
To be fair, they don't really teach time in America as extensively as other countries. I remember spending maybe a week or two learning it and then we moved on. If someone failed to tell time then, they definitely wouldn't be able to now.
