I grew up with The Beach Boy's music & had a lot of their records. Brian Wilson was the genius songwriter of the group. They span many decades but I love their early stuff from the 60's-70's. Their music conveys such happy innocent days of youth (surfing, cars, romance). They had tons of hits such as "Surfin' U.S.A.", "Good Vibrations", "Surfin' Safari", "I Get Around", "California Girls", "Help Me, Rhonda", "Barbara Ann", "Heroes & Villains", "Sloop John B.", "Fun Fun Fun", "Little Deuce Coupe", "God Only Knows", "In My Room" etc.
He was his own worst enemy as well

I was born in 1954 and I grew up listening to the Beach Boys. This was released in July of 1988 so I was probably listening to Kokomo in my '86 Jeep Cherokee, which seems appropriate for the vibe of the song. Here is the complete recording ruclips.net/video/wz_CyLyDXdM/видео.html

Surfin' Safari was the Beach Boys' first hit, in 1962. Kokomo was the last hit the band had, in 1988. Lots & lots & lots of incredible music in between. A few of my favorites are God Only Knows, Wouldn't It Be Nice, & California Girls. Great music, great band, great feel-good vibes ALWAYS!!
It's a 30-minute drive from Miami Florida to Kokomo in the Florida Keys. The place is real. I will make it a destination place when the weather gets a little warmer down here in Florida. We are experiencing a winter here in Florida. I'm from Central Florida and it's a 4-hour drive down to the keys.
My wife and I will be heading down to the keys sometime in March when it gets a little warmer.

Mr54nomore, there is no island in the Florida Keys called Kokomo the only two places called Kokomo are a town in Indiana and there is a Tiki bar named Kokomo Island in honor of the song (it came after the famous song was released).

"God Only Knows" 1966, by The Beach Boys is my personal favourite..... Now, I'm not religious one little bit, but this song is just beautiful. I always get choked up when I hear it. 🎼❤🎤

One good thing about the old Navy days was I got to see most of these places. Been to Aruba, Jamaica, Bermuda and Montego. Sent my parents to Bahamas for a wedding anniversary. No Key Largo. And Kokomo itself...I will scroll for the answer. Think it was a bar in Florida or something.
The Beach Boys concert at Balboa Stadium in San Diego on 8/10/1975 was like a mini vacation for me and about 33,000 other fans, with the added bonus of the performance of another favorite of mine, Jesse Colin Young!! 🌴🌞🎶💞

This reminds me of a beach party I went to in Devon UK in the late 90's. I love the beach boys, nothing better to listen to as you drive along on a hot summer day.

I comment to whoever does The Beach Boys that they were the first band I recall hearing when I was about 3. My mom had an 8 track tape and I still love them to this day!!. If you want something you wouldn't expect...listen to In My Room. It's an intimate side to a usual fun side they offer. God bless and enjoy! 😁❤

My older sister played them like crazy when I was little......California Girls is the best song.....met them all when I grew bc my husband was john Stamos driver and I was able to go to a couple events with them.....he also invited us and the kids to the full house and he loved when I made him homemade tortillas....

There is no island called Kokomo. There is a Kokomo poolside bar on the Florida Key - Islamorada. There is a Kokomo, Indiana, a Kokomo restaurant in Brooklyn, NY, a Kokomo Beach Club in Las Vegas. It's just a song.
My dad was Navy. I got to see all of those places. I have never seen water so clear and blue.
