I knew a Turkish custom shoe maker who imported piece by piece a last making machine from Turkey … it was a monstrosity of a machine at least 10 Ft. long and it would copy a last that was attached adjacent to the wood blank that got cut down thus fabricating a perfect duplicate … his name was Vahan and he had at least 5 shops that he failed throughout the years because no one wanted shoes 👞 made He’d open a shop and struggle then close it up and open another … etc … the shop locations were not good whereby working class people threw their shoes away …. his shoe making was impeccable however master Vahan never made enough money to sustain a decent living ….. God bless that guy …I talked to him before he closed his last shop about four years ago …. he had a very thick Turkish accent and his English was very limited which didn’t help explaining the details of his orthopedic custom shoes and boots 🥾 that were fabricated aesthetically like fashion footwear and not ugly and clunky like most medical prescription shoes and boots ….
….. ya gotta be kidding me ….. is there actually a market for handmade lasts …. why the last alone would cost at least 2000.00 USD …. And that’s being generous cus it would take at least a month for an average crafts person to make a shoe last based on a 40 hrs work week …. then there’s shoe making cost of at least 2000.00 USD and that’s being conservative …. But , after the custom last is fabricated the cost of the custom footwear will drop significantly of course …. all due respect sir …
