Probably a mixture of both to be fair.
I think that because it's extremely cute if it was because he liked the character and also because it does make sense that regardless of him wanting to impress Blitzø or not he definitely took inspiration from her.

@@xiamdamagedx You're wrong. I went back personally and there are 2 times he wakes up. Once back during the pilot when Blitz apologized for fucking him, where he has no gray stripe, and a second time, wearing his outfit from Ozzie's with the gray stripe from the gel because he didn't wash it out. So, to say it again, it is there from the night before at Ozzie's. He does not have gray in his hair/feathers. It is the gel.

It looks more like a "novela" (I don't know the word in English), novelas are shows about romance, always having a good ending and always ending in a wedding, these are very common in Mexico at least (I'm from here, if there's anywhere else, please feel free to comment), also, someone talked about the goddess of the moon, Luna, saying that the moon symbol in Loona's short as well as her color scheme is a reference to this goddess, but did you know "Loona" sounds like "Luna" which is "Moon" in Spanish? Yeah when I first saw Loona's moon, I said "oh because Loona sounds like Luna" then I heard the other explanation and I was like "wait, what?"
Oh yeah, also, Alejandro and Gabriela or Gabriella are common names (at least here so it makes sense the "novela" thing)
The reason he did this was to mirror the characters in the tele novella, basically in the scene we see Gabriella crying out, asking why her true love doesn't love her back, Stolas is in the same situation, he loves Blitzo but Blitzo doesn't love him back. He did the stripe as a way to mimic this connection

It's likely because that's the only experience he's ever had with romance and dates, is those romcoms, because he's never went on an actual date or had a partner. So he's just copying it to hope that's what he's supposed to do and that it'll go better that way.
