I came in here because I want to help someone who has the same problem as mine. Just recently my 2008 Prius went completely dead even after changing to a new battery. There was no life, nothing at all. I had to ask my friends to give me a jump. After watching many RUclips videos I found out that one of my fuse was gone. When you open the fuse box, at the right under C section, there are two blue no.15 fuses. I changed the second one from the top. After that I also had to tighten up my negative volt battery which is in the trunk attached to the back of the car. Make sure you unscrew the negative volt before putting on the new fuse. After that it came to life. Hope it helps someone.
Why in the world would anyone give a thumps down to this video??? We called triple AAA to come jump our Prius hatchback and they asked us how to do it! I said I have no idea, I thought YOU guy would know!!! THIS VIDEO SAVED THE DAY! It was so accurate, concise, and the visual explanation so perfect that even this old lady grandma will be able to do it myself next time! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Omg this helped me get my car started. I am a single mother with 3 kiddos. They left the lights on and we didn’t go anywhere for 3 days. Thank u so much!!!
Thank you for posting this. Today I was able to help a 94 year old Prius owner that was freaking out. We have enough to worry about today, So again Thanks a Ton.
AAA had sent a Towtruck driver and he totally dismantled the rear part of the poor prius 😢when i showed up i couldn’t make up where the battery was so i did a quick search on RUclips got the job done in two minutes and a 20 dollar tip thanks to this video its full of info and not dragging on like most othef ones
This was perfect! After maybe a month and a half of the car sitting in the garage (pandemic), I found that the car was dead. This guide got me back up and running with my charger in a jiffy.
Thank you for this video. You saved my a**. I jump started without any issue following your instructions. the manual was useless but this video was awesome.
READ THIS!! Before you try to jump-start your car, make sure all sets of keys are out! When I hooked up the jumper cables, the alarm system kicked in, and locked all doors! I could not enter the vehicle since I kept the keys(both sets-what a dummy I was) inside so I would not misplace them. I have no way of entering the car now so I have to call my tow service! Save yourself time and frustration-Keep a set of keys w/ you at all times while working on the vehicle; I've never had a car do this before. FYI, I did have some issues w/ my fobs before so maybe it was a combo of issues but better to be safe than sorry.
Thank you for this! Our 2011 Prius would not start this morning (dome light was inadvertently left on) and your video made it very clear and easy how to get it up and running in less than 5 minutes.
Thanks!! I was trying to connect to the screw on red cable. Wish the company would make it clear like you.you clarified about clamping to the 'plate' in + side.that solved a huge problem for me.thanks again.
Thanks for this. Went out of town to see family, left something on in the car and found a dead batt 4 says later. You got me back up and running in 15 min. Excelsior!!
Uuuuummmm...yeah....I'm going to need you to come in on Saturday ok.., and oh I see your having problems with your TPS reports also. Did you not get the memo?
Suggest a closer ground connection for the neg. jumper cable jaws. The + and - cables on many jumper cables are joined the entire length until they reach the ends where they split into their respective battery clamps. That would preclude using such a jumper cable with vehicle connection points about 4 feet apart in your demo. For newbies, should also have mentioned the connection on the other end of the jumper cables..
+screenshot123 Exactly. I was waiting for the part about how to connect the cables to the vehicle with the working battery. According to this video, my car can jump itself!
There are couple of places on the drivers side of the engine that can be used for negative ground. Most jumper cables, or battery packs, won't reach to the passenger side of the engine.
Thanks a lot for the video. I'm shipping my Prius to Hawaii and it's nice to be prepared in the (hopefully unlikely) case that the car arrives with a dead battery.
Hello Chezz1a, I want to say no, but just to make sure, we will research it with your Toyota Prius master mechanic and will repost the results. Have a great day
I want to emphasize 1:00 on this video. The "CABLE SIDE" of the jumper cable's alligator clamp must touch the metal plate. I bet most people don't know this but for jumper cables, only the one part of each alligator clamp is electrically connected to the cable itself, and that's the side with the cable attached. The other side apparently is just there for physical clamping and isn't electrically relevant. I totally didn't know that, so I wasted like 1 hour. :P
So, if you are using a halo bolt to jump-start the Prius, the cables don't reach that metal stud, and no other contact point I tried registers with the Halo Bolt as being conductive. Any suggestions?
Hi Secundiflora, There is a metal key piece built into the actual key fob. You would need to release it, pull it out, walk up to your door and open the door manually with that key, from there you can pop the hood and proceed. I will most liklely make another video demostrating that as well. Hope this help!!!! Ray Khandan Director of E-Commerce Stevens Creek Toyota
My cables are too big and there was no way to get the cable in that tiny slot! I'm not buying new cables. It's my mother's 08 Prius that she's giving to me. I didn't have time to use my charger, I had to leave. What's that fix?
Hi, I have a 2007 Prius. Is there a way to put the car into neutral without the battery on (like a traditional car where you can manually move it)? My battery have died on me once at work and I tried to put it on neutral to get it out of the parking space but was unable to. Lucky my coworker, who parked next to me, helped me jump start my car.
I was trying to find the manual release to expose the battery that is in the trunk for a stranded lady. State cops were there too. Hopefully the cops helped her out. The damn manual was useless. apparently you have to lower the rear seats to expose the trunk release. somebody else explains it further down.
Actually if it doesn't start just wait 5 mins with the cables hooked up so it can charge a little, then try and start it. If it doesn't start then call Toyota
Bibleboy316 - THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! We've been fighting with my car all evening! My daughter left my lights on last night and I had a dead battery. Figured out how to STRETCH the jumper cables to reach another car, since I couldn't back my car out of the garage! But, it wasn't working. You fixed it - new jumper cables, with "sides" never seen that before. Car now starts.
Can you make video demonstrating how to disable battery for long vacation? My experience is that after a long vacation (1 or 2 months) the battery is dead and need to be jump start. After several jump start, the bettery needs to be replacec.
Unfortunately, this did not work for me. Battery acts like it is a brick - not one light anywhere. No signs of life. Had friend come over and we tried the jump at the fuse box - nothing - no sign of life. Of course, tried to open hatch back - but after climbing in the back and lifting the liner - could not get latch to open the back. It did release about 1/4" but could not get it to release enough to open back hatch. I left car door open for several days and it must have completely drained the battery. And... of course, the Prius in head in into my garage and could not get it in neutral - as it apparently goes into park when electrical system is off....so will call mechanic tomorrow for his help - not sure how to get car to garage as wheels lock when car is off - and you have to jack car up and put on wheeled dollys to move it outside garage to even try a jump with bigger vehicle or somehow to get on flatbed... what a mess. Expensive to get towed or hauled to my prius mechanic - but maybe he can suggest a way. I wonder if I can replace the battery myself? Would it be as simple as replacing the battery - which I'd have to do since trunk latch is locked down... nothing simple about that.
12 years later and still solid advice thank you!! Just saved me.

Thx Kenny. My used Prius came w/o an owner's manual and when I popped the hood I was at a loss. Good, concise explanation. 👍

If I were in San Jose this would be my dealer! To make things so simple, and save so many of us so much aggravation and money... greatly appreciated!

Great tip. This happened to me but luckily my door was open.

Man gets attacked by grizzly bear
Worked exactly as described on a 2015 Prius V. Used an engine bolt closer to the fuse box for the negative connection.
You are amazing sir , I was stuck today and was soo worried , but this video proved to be a life saver , thanks again :)
Thanks!! I was trying to connect to the screw on red cable.

Hi there last night my car battery was completely finished your video help me a lot many thanks for uploading it
You just saved my life mate. Thank you!
Thank you so much! This video is beyond helpful!
I went to the trouble of crawling back to open the rear lid and taking things apart to get at the battery. This is much more sensible.
I knew how to do this otherwise, but that damned clip on the fusebox cover had me thwarted. Thanks for including that step.
Thank you for making such videos. It really helps us
Uuuuummmm...yeah....I'm going to need you to come in on Saturday ok.., and oh I see your having problems with your TPS reports also. Did you not get the memo?
My first thought was Office Space boss lol
Lmfaoooooo Lombard
Thanks so much. Exactly what i needed. Clear and to the point.
Thank You So Much 👍🏻😉 !!! You just Save like $500 Dlrs I was about to spend on My Prius C !!! GOD BLESS You ,Amen !!!🙏🏼
Great video, very helpful, thank you! Nice and quick.
OMG YOU JUST SAVED MY LIFE. THANK YOU. I DIDN'T WVEN KNOW YOU COULD JUMP START A 2011 PRIUS.😭👍🏼👍🏼❤

Seriously! My cables won't go nearly that far.

Thank you so much. This helped my mom and me so much :)
Great video. Very clearly explained!
This came in handy today. Thanks.
Recommendation about “-“ on opposite side of the vehicle it was very smart Toyota idea
Thank you stevens creek toyota
You are most welcome. Enjoy your prius!

Thanks so much. I was up and running again in just a few minutes.

lol, I did just watch this movie for the first time 2 days ago and here I am reading your comment. :)
“I’m going to need you to come in Saturday…” lol
Thanks a lot for the video. I'm shipping my Prius to Hawaii and it's nice to be prepared in the (hopefully unlikely) case that the car arrives with a dead battery.
thank you it worked for me 2010 prius

God bless! Helped us in a bind!!
Great simple explanation!
Thanks How long do u have to drive the Prius after starting the dead battery to get it back to normal?
Perfect! Great information, thanks so much!!
i was expecting so see a prius catch some sweet air..
Great video very informative thankss

I agree, who has a jump starter with a 12' cable?
Good to know.. Had a tow company come out and he tried to use a different point for ground.. He had the Positive fine..

Hi
Thank you for great info.
Do I need to ask someone with car to connect the other end ? Or donut within the car as you showed ?
What if my cables don't reach from the positive side to the bolt shown? Will any other piece of metal do?
Can I use those positive and negative terminals to connect an inverter?
I want to use it for washing my carpets with a portable carpet cleaner
Was bugging me who you looked like- got it, you look EXACTLY like BILL LUMBURGH the actor!
Molly Wollaston-Pugsley *Lumbergh and yeah he really do be looking like that
Jump leads come in 4. Where do u put the rest of the 2 in ?
Thanks for the info… saved $75…
Thank you. You made my day.
you saved my day
thanks!

Why are positive and negative so far apart?
I need them closer for me to test voltage using my multimeter.

Thanks bro, u saved my butt
Can the same procedure be done to connect a dash cam so it is powered 24/7??
Or it will need to get wired back to the battery??
Best video. Thanks.
Thanks, Kenny
thank you soo much🙏🙏🙏
it works usually, but once it happened that it didn't work this way, but only when i jump started directly on the battery from the trunk
Hi, thanks for sharing, where did you use to ground the negative side of the jumper cable? When you did it from the back?
on the negative plug of the battery...
Thank you, you saved my ass
How to you pop the hood when you have keyless entry if the battery is dead?
The key fob has emergency key in it that pops out. I think you can look up a video on it.
thank you sir for sharing this video 😍
Friggen tiny contact to get a jumper cable clamp to grab and NOT fall off .
This video helped me alot tomorrow was street sweeper day I thought I was going to get a ticket but I got some good info do to the video
Are we supposed to turn on the car while the jumper cables are still attached?
????? No, you just hold your hands together and pray, works all the time........lol
Your are most welcome.
Thanks!
Thank you so much, you just saved me!!!
Thank you, sir.
This is the loudest camera autofocus in the world
Thank You So Much !!!!

So you don't need another car to jump start it?
Weird spot for a negative i had to split my cable to make it reach out further
thx , for your video

Perfect, thank you!
The video was great .shito thanks
thanks so much!!!
Thanks for the video ;-)
I wish I knew this yesterday after buying a Prius, had to disassemble the who trunk \(-----___----)/
just wondering, can a prius jump start another vehicle?
Yep, just did it!
Thanks for asking, I have a Prius C and I didn't find how to in the manual so I figured one can't.
