Here is very rare when you find a song that started an area in the music industry....rappers delight was it. All the hip hop and rappers should pay homage to the Sugar Hill Gang.
Best thing in the freaking world: you got the classic Funk of chic, the best bassline ever, the fun and energetic style of rapper's delight, man I just love this so much it can get me out of any bad day. Theses guys actually gave me the will to learn bass and start a Funk Cover Band 2 years ago. Now we play this song at the beggining of our gigs and I'm proud to say we do our job in keeping the funk alive in France :D
Great comment.... Ever watch this? ruclips.net/video/PUTRlN7oZiI/видео.html the bassist was 18 years old at the time. Obviously it's not rappers delight, but the band jamming to a classic track
Man i love Gangsta rap but this ..... this is awesome man it makes you wanna party and dance even when you are alone.. I wish today's "rappers" would make this kind of music
Yes, the dancer in the yellow with the headband , WAS THE MC HAMMER, can't you tell his awesome moves by now. He never fails to entertain , and even with a stage full of people, he has a way of making all eyes be on him. I wish the camera would focused on him more as I was getting into his groove. Loved Chic and Sugar hill 2gather, just shows you these songs are timeless, and music now a days is just there, it has no flavor or soul...Love me some Nile Rogers.🎸🎸🎶🎶🖤🖤🖤
I was shown Rappers Delight when I was like 7. It was one of my favorite songs. I’m 27 now and can STILL throw down to this song without missing a word
I remember going to a club and watching the original Sugar Hill Gang back in the day. The place went insane and the roof was on fire!!! Thanks for the memories.
I remember watching this live as a kid it was so fucking awesome to see this performance I listened to the song for like a year straight and memorized every lyric. Man I miss my childhood
These are the videos that make us happy, knowing that there were times that made real songs and great singers, let's thank the 70s, 80s and 90s👏👏👏, today just. talk.
I grew up on this. My mom had crates full of albums and 8-track cassettes. We had 2 Sugarhill Gang albums and use to bang this joint while my mom was gone. (Along with Rick James and the Mary Jane Girls. )
Thanks, I heard Rappers Delight for the first time in 1979, and was sold‼️Later the movie Beat Street came, and gave us an insight in the Rap culture, I have the Sountrack from Beat Street‼️ ❤️ Jazz and Jazzmatazz and others wt the fusion of Hip Hop and Jazz‼️Thank you, Sugar Hill Gang, for bringing Rappers Delight out to the masses‼️💎 Europeian.
Bernard Edwards killing everthing stagewise. Period. A Funk legend on Fender, truly he inspired me to the max. My music understanding is connected to Bernard Edwards, r.i.p. Peace
A blast from the past that will surely LAST FOREVER! I grew up with this MUSIC! So much talent then in the 80s' through to 90s' BUT.... Chic, Sugarhill Gang, Nile Rodgers & all he had a hand in..... Two words.... MASTER CLASS! IT'S MY LIFE SUMMED UP IN THOSE TWO SONGS! RESPECT!
Im from da Philippines n RAP MUSIC is my genre since my elementary dayz im 46 now but still RAP is my life. Bow down to This crew SUGAR HILL GANG da real pioneers of hiphop. Payce!
Excellent video, who'd have thought, Chic would be sharing the stage with the Sugarhill Gang, considering that, at the time that the Rappers Delight came out, the Chic organisation were trying to sue Sugarhill back to the stone age for stealing their music & yes, i can still remember every word of the Rappers Delight!
There's a video of a Nile Rogers interview where he said that he didn't mind jamming with them. He was only pissed off when the writers of "Good Times" weren't credited on "Rappers Delight". I think it was eventually resolved with them being credited and a share of the royalties.
ruclips.net/video/x73zbwcEe_4/видео.html they did sue and now own the rights to both songs, Queen was at the same studio and overheard Goodtimes, and tried to do something like it according to rumor and another one bites the dust was the result , it was different enough not to sue, however sugar hill gang was a straight rip without permission or credit given and even sampled the strings, they had to be sued and were. But that was the biggest or one of the biggest selling hiphop singles of all time, even though it got very little radioplay compared to a lot of songs because rap was still sort of new, and the lyrics back than was a little racy, so it was number one but the charts than put alot of their numbers on radio play, and without it yu did not get no #1 very often, no cell phones or downloads or internet as we know it back than, cds were just about to be a thing but lips and 45's ruled and cassettes and boomboxes and sony walkmans were king.
Music was about partying and having a good time on the dancefloor. Not about how much you make and on what you are spending it and how badass you are. Miss those years and that kind of music
My grampa says that when he was just going to 1st grade this song was really really popular, but they had no spotify so he had to listen to it on RADIO, the kind that has no internet!!!!
I was there and I loved it on my roller skates, this was the voice from the "bronx" for all the brothers, we could fill up a night club with no girls in it, we didn't give a damn, we were there to make some dance moves
cried here exciting. Hip hop is very beautiful. I'm from Brazil and I really admire these guys. rap soul and heart. Without doubt the most beautiful street culture and hip hop !!!!!!
Known as “sampling,” the practice dates back to 1979, when the Sugar Hill Gang brazenly featured Chic's “Good Times” as the basis for its “Rapper's Delight,” now considered rap's first hit single.
We were @ riverfront in smallbany, ny. Chic was doing sound check it was lightly raining. Band was so funky we started dancing. And kept on dancing throughout the whole show in the rain!
Brings back good times! It is also bitter-sweet, because ALL music today is basically GARBAGE, with the exception of a few...We need to bring the music back, or at least breathe some LIFE into it!!!
+Cindy M. I think the youth today has it in them. I'm just waiting for it to break loose. I've been a roller rink and mobile DJ for 38 years. The closest for me right now is Bruno Mars. I could have hit the roller rink floor in the 70's with his funky badass grooves. I remember the first night the DJ put rappers delight on the turn table. We all about shit this was great. Instant skateranch shuffle.
This is more than a song,. It's a message of joy, freedom, peace. Black, white, yellow or red who cares?! One race one heart.
WORD.
Hell yeah
Amen
Amém
Very precise description! 👌
Everyone: Endgame is the most ambitious crossover of all time

Rip BE where are in 2020 and we miss you
Takes me back to NYC late 70s and very early 80s. Lord, was that really almost forty years ago?
How bloody awesome can Chic be to cause two epic songs in two genres with a single tune?
Watching this is so much fun. Takes me all the way back to high school. Partying was really fun in those days.
Someone watching this at 2020?😏👍
It's STILL the #1 rap song of all time.
its so cool to see that Nile Rodgers is still singing :)
A blast from the past that will surely LAST FOREVER!
I grew up with this MUSIC!

Still like this. 1 off the very first raps (Kurtis Blow/BlowFly i remember). Very very old skool. I was 17 yrs old when Chic came with this song.
this is amazing, the two original rap and disco icons, I am glad you posted this thank you
one of the greatest guitar riffs of all time
This is so good. Crazy that the first proper rap tune ever made is STILL one of, if not THE best.
Written by Grandmaster Caz. Few people know about it, no one talks about it, and no one even mentions GMC.
Unbelievable. What an energy bomb!
