Thanks for the correct instructions. The instructions provided are complete jibber jabber. I had problems understanding them but after a while I worked it out. This video will help you if you are having difficulty operating your camera. For 10 quid this little camera really is top notch!
how long can the battery last in motion detection mode? you get 1hour when fully recording, right? so 1hour max detection time is fine. (which makes lower chunks better, i hear it's 3min, not 5min) so assume i were gonna leave it somewhere "alone" for 24hours. could it wait in detection mode, for about 18hours maybe? then shoot a recording if it saw a something, be it a person, a cat, etc?
Just a 'heads-up' on an excellent review ;) THe night vision LEDS will not light up visibly in night vision mode on mine, but it still records, although only close objects. thanks for a great guide!!

Thanks! That was a huge help. You might mention that (1) the "English" user manual is totally incomprehensible and (2) there is nothing to indicate that the camera is actually recording. You can't distinguish the OFF state from the RECORDING state. This is a real problem since the manual is so unintelligible. You can't easily tell what state you're in to recover from a mistake. That said, I just ordered a second one of these cameras. They're great -- once you figure out how to work it. I still haven't been able to set the time correctly.
To set the time, you need to edit the "TIMEREST" file. The format is YYYYMMDDHHMMSS Y. (The 'Y' tells the system to superimpose the date and time on your recordings/pictures.)
Good job with the video. There are a bunch of others, but not as well done. But FYI: "1080p" is not "Ten Eighty Pixels". The "p" in 720p and 1080p stands for "Progressive Scanning". 720 and 1080 are the number of horizontal scan lines in a video frame - still not "pixels".

Cell phones tend to "auto-correct" what you're trying to say, then changing it into mumbo jumbo. Not your fault. Anyway, I personally view all videos on computers with large screens and high quality audio. Although I own a great cell phone and a some Kindle tablets, I'm not a fan of small screens and awful sound. Most of the material gets lost in the recording and playback process. I have been producing professional videos for many years, and I use some very high-end equipment in a special editing room dedicated to just that. Actually, it's just a hobby, so I guess I'm spoiled with that. BTW - I actually ended up writing a new set of instructions for the SQ8 camera in REAL ENGLISH. And the info in your video seems to get it right - great job!

Excellent video, and excellent instructions. I believe you explained that the camera is charged when the light is red? My light is still blue. Does that mean my battery is not fully charged yet? Also while the camera is charging, it becomes very hot, not just warm. Did you experience that also. Look forward to some replies when ready - thanks again

For some reason when my camera is in standby and I hold the mode button for two seconds the light will blink magneta and blue for a second then turn solid blue then turn to blinking magneta and it will stay blinking magneta color the whole time it's recording

I would recommend you watch the other videos of other cameras similar to this one. You can find them in the playlist. Then compare and contrast and try to make a decision which one may be best for you. They all offer something different so it depends what you are looking for. I'm currently using a cheap Itek dashcam (20 bucks) in my residence window to record those approaching my front door. This SQ8 looks like it would serve a similar purpose. The motion sensor picks up cars on the street in front of my home as they pass too. I am glad I bought a cheap cam to learn on. Now I understand how to use the features and how they function when reviewing on my PC. SO... I feel, money well spent. My next dash cam for the car will be a bit better grade but this Itek will be useful in the house. I DO get a sense of improved personal safety from this technology.
Nice video. This helped me out a lot as i just discovered that the SQ10 model is not much different. However, the night vision on mine does not seem to work when i press the on/off button for 2 seconds.

I need you help. I have that camera but probable I've activated some mode that I am not able to change. Now my camera is recording only 5 minutes and than stops recording. If I try for exemple to record for 30 min, it takes record the first 5 min and than she records the last couple of minutes. Might be the motion mode? How to go back to normal mode and make the camera record until I stop with the on/off botton?
Is there another cable available to connect the camera to a laptop that will allow me to download the sound as well as the video? The enclosed cable requires an rca jack which my laptop is not equipped with. I know that with an adapter I can download straight from the mini sd card to the computer, but that requires removal and reinsertion of the sd card into the camera, which I do not want to have to do repeatedly because of the possibility of having problems inserting it.

If the camera had went into "night time mode" and the IR LEDs had come on we would have seen them since the cameras imaging device is more sensitive to IR than our eyes, and it would have shown up as white light on the video. During your demo, several times you said the led blinked 3 times when it appeared not to have blinked at all.

I've been testing the motion detection feature many times, it doesnt work the way i'd like, If i leave it somewhere and come back half an hour later it wouldn't detect motion
I bought this camera under a different name (so maybe it's a bootleg or something), and I have followed the instructions AND your video the best I could and I still can't get this thing to record in Motion Detection mode. I turn it on, chose "720p" by pressing On/Off again, then I hold Mode for 3 seconds and the camera seems to turn OFF. You have to long-press On/Off again to get it back, and it has made no recordings in between. I have tried also just turning it on and then while in stand-by holding Mode for 3 seconds, but the same thing happens. Any ideas...? I may have just bought a crappier version or something...sucks. I really need this to work ASAP...

After taking the footage put it back into standby mode. You will then see a steady light. The camera will power off shortly after when the light goes off.
hello there i buy 2 pieces of sq8 but when i turned on it freez on light blue and cannot turned off and cannot use mode to switch between 720 . 1080 . And photo even after reset ... any solutions ???
I recently got one and I've had issues with the videos. The loop recording cuts it into individual 5 min. clips. On the one I got only the first video plays a full 5 minute clip while the succeeding videos won't play. Do you have any idea for a fix?
The camera includes a data cable. You plug the data cable into the camera and into the computer's USB port and upload the video from the camera to the computer.
Took several seconds to get any light so never sure where I was. Never saw IR lights. Bought a second camera, same thing! Blue light comes on after three to five seconds. No IR lights then just died. On your video, difficult to hear your "start" from your "stop" makes it rather confusing. Will have to give up on this make. Cheers, and thanks for the effort.

what software do you use to read the sd card from the camera. Some have their own site to use for viewing does the SQ8

Try pushing the reset button to get back to factory settings.

You don't need the RCA connector for the computer. Use the USB connector as explained at 7:36 in the video.

Hi there, Big problem question. My camera only records in 5min is there a way to record for a longer time. I bot two cameras one works good the other the red light stays on and does nothing I even tried resetting it. can you help.
Try a different memory card.
My SQ8 takes 2.5 seconds to come on and off instead of instantly like your video shows. I cna't get motion detection mode to work either. Are these common problems?

After taking the footage put it back into standby mode. You will then see a steady light. The camera will power off shortly after when the light goes off.
How does one tell the difference between the off condition, no light, and the record condition, no light?
Anyone know the size of the screw that you remove to take it apart? Of course, I dropped mine and it disappeared somewhere in the carpet.
hello there i buy 2 pieces of sq8 but when i turned on it freez on light blue and cannot turned off and cannot use mode to switch between 720 . 1080 . And photo even after reset ... any solutions ???

This one did not include a memory card and does require it.
I recently got one and I've had issues with the videos. The loop recording cuts it into individual 5 min. clips. On the one I got only the first video plays a full 5 minute clip while the succeeding videos won't play. Do you have any idea for a fix?
It may be an error. Try resetting the camera.

Great job..My computer is not recognizing the device. Where would it show up?
It should detect it when you plug it into the port. Maybe try a different USB port, reboot computer, update your USB drivers or try another computer.
How do i transfer the recorded video to my computer???
The camera includes a data cable. You plug the data cable into the camera and into the computer's USB port and upload the video from the camera to the computer.
Does the memory card come with it?

Took several seconds to get any light so never sure where I was. Never saw IR lights. Bought a second camera, same thing! Blue light comes on after three to five seconds. No IR lights then just died. On your video, difficult to hear your "start" from your "stop" makes it rather confusing. Will have to give up on this make. Cheers, and thanks for the effort.
