Besides just generally being adaptable, I could think of 2 specific reasons to swap: 1. If you main a lighter weapon, you could swap to a hard hitting weapon to wake up the monster when it retreats to its den. Additionally, you could run a sleep based main weapon or palico weapon to get more sleep procs per hunt, while using your second weapon to maximize each of them. 2. Some weapons are better at breaking specific parts on a monster. I could definitely see myself swapping to a long sword to cut a tail, a hammer to break the head, or a bowgun to break wings. If a monster is crippled by certain part breaks (think Rathian or Barioth), this could be exceptionally useful. Remember this if you start seeing weapons with Partbreaker.
charge blade is my main weapon. I agree it can be complicated to learn but after a few hunts it becomes pretty simple. Wilds introduced a quick way to charge your shield right after charging phials. Also, to charge the sword you have to have a charged shield first. Savage axe mode now only triggers after destroying a wound or perfect blocking (If I remember right). I'm probably going to run charge blade and either gunlance or switchaxe
Story mode GL/LBG, LBG for damage while on Seikret, create wounds, and attack power cloud. Honestly LBG will probably be my main secondary weapon period.
I actually found that both were excellent match ups against Thor-Horse. World was relatively generous with letting you block a range of attacks even when they hit from behind from behind (bezel eggs, Kirin and thunder puppy bolts for example).
As a fellow sns and lance man, first of all, you obviously have good taste in weapons. Secondly, after playing the beta, this whole swap mechanic is kind of hard to choose. Maybe pick an ultra aggressive weapon type for one, then switch to gl or lance if a new monster is smacking you around. I know from playing greatsword a decent amount in rise, you don't want to be using greatsword when there is more than one monster on the field. Maybe switch over to a less committal weapon until the other monster goes aways. You could use dung pods, but where is the fun in that? For me though, since I'm kind of planning on sns at this point, I'll probably stick with the double main weapon thing. Bring in an element weapon and an ailment weapon for backup.
The thing I've most often felt is: Man, I wish I could swap to a ranged weapon for this new monster (or without going back to camp with World and Rise)
Charge Blade Main, Hunting Horn secondary. Charge up your phials, switch to hunting horn and buff yourself and allies, switch back and reap the rewards. Simple.
That's... that's a pretty clever idea I hadn't even thought of that. Though that's partly because I didn't know how the focus mode would work on the bowguns.
So. From what we know about the Beta? My absolute main choice for a weapon and secondary is... Charge Blade + Sword & Shield. Trading the Heavy Payoff of CB for much of the same benefits in SnS, except this time. I can do aerial. Since bugstick had it's aerial nerfed in the beta. SnS was the next best thing. And the way PR feeds into falling bash and mounting was perfect. Though since they're reworking bugstick I'll need to see which I enjoy more for it's aerial combat. My second choice for a combo? Gunlance and Longsword. Longsword with all it's changes now has a flowing free form style in red that I enjoyed as a bugstick user in World. And it's the thing where I pair a complex tanky weapon with a simpler weapon where I can go sicko. Both of them really aggressive weapons especially with the new fullburst combo so I'm doing a lot of sweeping slices. Just one with the power of anime, the other with the power of explosions! My third combo choice? Lance and Switch Axe. The theme is... I fucking loved how powerful guarding felt in Wilds. So all of my mains are heavy shield weapons. Lance is simple and very intuitive. Meanwhile in my backpocket I bring a more complicated nuke as a compliment. Switch Axe was actually my favorite none shielded weapon, it just made sense to pair with it Lance in case I wanted a little more oomph in a fight.
Yeah that's cool. I feel each main needs a counter part. Will need to have a think about which I might pair with GS and SnS. Maybe a sleep weapon as a secondary for the GS to get big damage wake up.

Gunlance main. secondary depends and as of now, hunting horn but I do want to see how switch axe and Lance get changed. Lance is a weapon i want to want to use but this interation of monster hunter didnt really bring anything exciting. Sure some QOL but thats it. I mean look aat gunlance, nobody played it but people are actually talking about picking it up because the changes were amazing changes that made the weapon so different from before but better and still gunlance.

Feel like hunting horn will be common. Buff yourself, then just go to town on the monster with your main weapon.
If I could rapidly change from hammer to lance while farming kirin horns once I broke it. I absolutely would.

Yeah the whole changing weapon is honestly optional. Its not same with god eater where melee charges range attacks.
