    The problem I feel isnt Synchros its Links them selfs. Link summoning is just too free and has no reprocations in deck building.
    I feel the only way for Konami to make the Synchro mechanic better is for them to admit their mistake with links and just start creating more tuners and monsters with good effects that summon themselfs that have this close "This Card can't be used as link material". Unpopular opinion, but if level eater had that close I believe you could bring it back tommorow and it wouldn't be broken even in Synchro decks. Cause Synchros inherantly were designed to make the player give up consistency by making you put monsters with specific levels and types on board and deck that simutaniously are different level wise from each other. The mechanic is just designed to be too fair.

    Barrone and Savage deserved to get hit because it made a lot of board breakers, spells, and traps feel bad. You have a right to be able to negate these cards when its not cards like Dark Ruler. But the problem with Savage and Baronne is they were both to flexible by being to able negate monsters, spells, or traps and was to easy for decks to synchro summon and thats why they had to go. For these multiple interruption boards to be healthy for the game they have to lose to something. Thats why Apallousa wasn't banned. It loses to board breakers. The only problem I see with synchros and archetypes that lost Baronne is that Konami either needs to ban Nibiru and remake it to give more tokens or making it so that people can't use it the same turn they have used a hand trap. There is another option but most people don't want Konami to continuously make more negates. They would have to give every archetype a monster negate or make it so that they can make something without being punished by Nibiru and play later on their turn. Nibiru has been classified a problem and apart from marketing purposes they chose to make cards like Baronne to deal with it. Right now Sharks post Rage of the Abyss don't end on anything if Bahamat gets negated and your opponent has Nibiru and pure White Woods take 5 summons to make Fiendess. Nibiru is limiting game design and making so that even new and unique decks can't thrive by themselves. Even though Swordsoul had Baronne people have seen glimpses of this where having to use Baronne on Nibiru often times meant that Swordsoul a deck that considered a mid-range deck would lose. Why can't people agree that Nibiru is bad for the game. The evidence is everywhere even in decks that don't use the grave and its there for people that don't want to protest against Konami but don't want to pretend like the evidence doesn't exist either. Konami has to ban Nibiru or agree that every deck needs at least 1 convenient in archetype way to play around Nibiru that allows you to potentially play through 2 or 3 hand traps as per the modern standard. Yugioh is going this healthy direction that other card games have been striving for in the luck element not meaning you'll brick and giving people a rewarding feeling of satisfaction for skilled play. White Woods have options to play around Nibiru but only summoning making Sivera to search for Effect Veiler and summoning a 4th monster so you can make Witchwolf on your opponents turn isn't really enough by modern standards. It can work but it isn't really something to write home about. Other decks can make 2 or more interruptions that come from 2 or more separate monsters and can beat Nibiru. Some of those decks aren't even combo decks.

    • @RayMon504
      @RayMon504 Месяц назад +2

      That is absolutely why Appolousa wasnt banned: 1. only stops monster effects. 2. slightly more difficult to maximize it's ceiling (you have to use 4 monsters with different negates to get the max number of counters). Now that the generic negate problem has been resolved for now i do agree that it be time to start taking a look at Nib being a little more oppressive

    • @jacobwoodard818
      @jacobwoodard818 Месяц назад +1

      @@RayMon504 I'm not opposed to Konami making more negates as long as they do them right. But what game needs is for more decks like Tenpai and White Woods with different play styles to be both viable and different. We have been stuck on the interruptions and win conditions for years now and it would be good the game to get more archetypes that truly felt unique. I am not opposed to OTKs when you have to put forth real effort. Nibiru easily makes OTKs so long as its paired with a deck like Kastira that can clear the token and vomit out monsters. There is unfair and then their is also to unfair and if decks like pure White Woods have to deal with it while Konami ignores it as they have some other decks in the past whether I be old decks getting new support or new ones that get nothing to deal with Nibiru despite sitting around for awhile. P.u.n.k. is a fairly good example. I think Psychic End Punisher might help you cope with Nibiru but I think in general combos it was something they had to make late enough into the combos that you would get Nibbed anyways and generally changed nothing. I wouldn't be upset if they continued to make generic negates as long as they aren't to generic and is only a monster negate or a spell/trap negate. They give it a restriction like Dis Paters that most decks would have to through the effort of making Accel Stardust to make it easily and costs more extra deck space. Omega is what turns Dis Pater into a double hand loop which isn't good though considering that it can cost 2 or more cards to play around hand traps.

  • @GuySyr
    @GuySyr Месяц назад +3

    I think another possible solution could be to, going forward; make future XYZ and Link Monsters not as generic and as easy to summon. It's fine if you have a generic type of deck, that happens to mesh well enough together. However, the trade-off then should be that the more generic something is; the less powerful it's effects are. This would assist in the direction to get players to play decks that aren't just a pile of cards, but archetypes and cards that "support" the particular play-style that they use.
    Now in the Borreload Savage Dragon and Baronne De Fleur examples; being boss monsters that they are(were in TCG until ban-list) is that they were too generic to summon. Chevalier De Fluer as a level 8 Synchro would have been fine as a more "generic" synchro monster, to which Baronne then just needed either a specific tuner, or Chevalier de Fleur as the non-tuner requirement. Borreload Savage Dragon on the other hand being a Level 8 Synchro Monster, that usually needs at least a Link Monster in the Graveyard as a means to equip itself so it can do what it's known for; 1 Dark Dragon Tuner + 1+ Dark Dragon non-Tuner Monsters. Seeing how the Fusion version requires Two Dark Dragon monsters, it only makes sense for the requirements to be a Dark Dragon Tuner + 1+ Dark Dragon non-Tuner Monsters.
    With all that said, I hope all who read this have a good rest of your day/afternoon/evening.

    synchros have hard time keeping up, they wher meant to be fast extra deck summons, but as combo formats got stronger, and disruptions more versatile, sychros got weaker, every other special summoning mechanic deals with interruptions better:
    -fusion:has quick plays; uses materials from hand, graveyard, banished, deck, field and even you're opponent's field; doesn't care about levels,can use face down monsters
    -xyz:materials are no longer considered monsters, can be summoned with one card, can be summoned with traps
    -links: can use any monster too summon as long as it's face up, doesn't get bullied by dracostapellia because no lv needed, and sometimes uses the hand, the opponent's field without being declared.
    -even rituals(i know, not extra deck summon):uses tributes, uses hand, deck, opponents field, face down monsters.
    But I think the real shame is the lack of tools for going second, because synchros need both lvls and field presance, they are extremely vulnerable to any type of disruption, and have very few ways of summonig monsters in spell speed 2, making even black rose dragon a slow option for it's time. I mean just look at going second special summoning options : zeus, typhoon, super poly, acsess code... the archetype simply has too much garbage options and enough things to use as a come back because of the speed of the summon. the most recent is tenpai, but, the decks potentiel in going second is for from being playble everywhere and uses other advantages for going second. I really hope konami fixes this, before pendulum ends up catching up

    Few arguments here:
    We have synchro specific decks that do decently well, and did for their time. We have tenpai and Centurion currently, but Manadium was a meta synchro deck that facilitated summoning from the deck. Not going to dismiss Swordsoul either, which was also good in its time and decent at the moment.
    Tokens. While I would agree mostly with you in tokens for synchro materials only, there are decks that specifically make tokens for their strategy, eg Sky striker and the new fiendsmith. An obscure example would also be evil-eye or even generaider. These decks generate tokens to further their gameplay, and the tokens have a specific use there.
    We do have some powerful tuners at the moment, but they are deck specific often times, or lock into synchros. I feel that they could definitely print more tuners and try to revive the synchro mechanic more like a synchro summon from deck, but that could be dangerous. Think crimson dragon in centurion, it just creates more advantage without as much worry of nib.

    That Floral Knight thumbnail is really good too! Their addition to DL was a curious one. We have Baronne de Fleur locked behind a character skill so it like never seen, and I was expecting it to be a Limit 1 bundle card which would mean it goes in to EVERY deck! They may do this to the Borrel synchro too...since they are making skills playable by anyway, we could see them there too, like they have for Shadolls and Ogdoadics and more.

    When synchros and 5d’s came out , I was hooked . I love the idea and the mechanics of the gameplay. Till this day I still duel with synchro monsters, especially stardust. In master duel I have this exodia stardust prototype that gets me by in rank; but everything you said about my beloved synchro monsters were true 😢 I even find my self using a dark tuner to get to dharc charmer link sometimes. Since their inception, the world of Yugioh expanded to where they weren’t really able to catch up.
    I do like the idea of tuners being used in the hand. Only being able to be used a material for a synchro monster .
    Also I thought about a way to keep tuners around, something like the crystal beasts or pendulum monsters. After being defeated, instead of heading to the graveyard, place them as continuous spells/traps. Then let say you have a lv 4 monster or n.summon a monster, trigger the tuner to return to the field and immediately synchro summoning ?

  • @stingdragon17
    @stingdragon17 Месяц назад +1

    I think they could revive synchro summoning with an Archetype that operates similar to Gemini monsters. They'd all have an effect that:
    Once per turn, you may activate the following effect: if this card is treated as a tuner, it is no longer treated as a tuner. If this card is not treated as a tuner, it is now treated as a tuner.
    Having monsters of all levels that could effectively choose when they are or aren't tuners would greatly expand the mechanic. Because it sucks when you draw all tuners or even no tuners at all. Like those can literally be brick hands for a Synchro deck. This would get around that. But also stay balanced as your opponent could interact with these effects to negate them.

    Crystal wing synchro dragon is my favorite synchro card. I found a way to put XYZ and synchros in my dark magician deck a long time ago when card of demise was at 3, somehow ash blossoms helped a lot with synchros instead of saying no. Solem judgement helped out with that. I used to play number 54 for XYZ, it was difficult to summon but fun when it did. Got destroyed right away most of the times.
    When I build the dark magician deck to have more synchros, the deck moved but unfortunately card of demise got hit and hella good cards came out during that time period. The salamagreat deck is still legit but the newbies definitely kicking some butt.

    I think there could be a solution to the adding levels if we learn from Ritual Monsters who do rely on levels to Ritual Summon. They don't require an exact number, but a minimum level requirement. And if we can create a reason to over tune for a synchro monster, the possibilities are endless.

    Having Synchros that can tag out to its level constituents could be a cool mechanic. Like Tenpai but de-Synchro rather than performint another Synchro Summon, or tagging for another Synchro like Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon.
    Realistically, the only thing Synchro have that Links don't are that it has DEF and it has levels. So unless you make more effects that support those two, Links will always have better utility due to not caring about levels. So for example, Synchro with following effect:
    Monsters with the same level non-Tuner monster(s) used are unaffected by opponent's monster.

    Centur-ion's levels make crmonsom dragon the only good option outside lf their archetype, which encourages the calamity or other level 12 plays, and the level 12s are examples of old high level cards that are not good by modern standards and difficult to make

Treating a non-tuner as a tuner or even banishing the tuner and non tuner from your graveyard would be very helpful. Maybe spells or effects that let you choose a monster from your hand as material too. But definitely do agree with effects that lock in. I think tributing is in an even worse position. You are right about the tuners though! I think a PENDULUM tuner would be what is missing to keep synchros up to any pace. They get sent to the ED after use instead of the GY so there is the inherent possibility of recursion. If the card is an effective wall too, then it could see more regular use on its own. Can we have an extension of the dino set??? Color me partial but Samurai Calvary of Reptier (and Aether the Empowered Dragon) has been what has decided games, so adding a couple tuners would rock!
    Also a tuner token card would also be a great idea (I also want to see tokens with effects like MTG has). We only have a few cards that generically enable synchros so some more could definitely help too. Links that assist in synchros is also in order. We have Cyberse Quantum Dragon and some others to help with the links but I don't recall any really enabling that mechanic beyond some archetypal support.

    Synchros are what elevated the TCG to it's first true competitive era and brought more players into the game. It's a shame that they keep doing synchro monsters so dirty every year. I agree with the ban on Borreload (even though it should have been banned during Dragon Link) but the ban on Baronne when it finally became affordable for budget players was a dick move by Konami. It's honestly not even that strong in comparison to something like S.P or I.P . Don't get me wrong i played all 3 when they were first released, but i can still say that Links are doing more damage in meta decks in comparison to synchros.

Just look at the lvl 3 Speedroid tuner; the one that can special summon another tuner from the hand or graveyard by banishing itself from the graveyard. Or the lvl 3 synchro tuner; it can bring a speedroid spell/trap card to my hand or resummon all the resources that went into it if they were all Speedroids. I think I can rest my case; I know it isn't exactly top of the barrel, but it has so much variety and strength in it's strategies that it is at least somewhat good

But one day less than a year ago I think..., I started playing Master Duel. I ended up making my Crystal Clear Wing Speedroid deck. Probably not the most efficient version, but I really meant everything I said above. Of course, we must evolve with our decks, so I really wanted to find ways to spice up the Speedroid formula; since I'm pretty much restricted to the Wind attribute, I decided to give Aleister (did I spell that right?) and his Wind fusion monster a try in a variation of the deck. Not satisfied enough, I looked online and found out about the Windwitches, so now I play "the good ones" from the main deck and some of their synchros and fusions. I'm very pleased with this deck from my experiments on Legacy of the Duelist despite not having it finished yet and frankly, I started Master Duel with the intention of making a extra deck full of a variety of summoning mechanics and now I can rest easy knowing i achieved my goals with a competent deck that doesn't make me feel like an asshole, almost ever, for playing something too meta so my opponent can't stand a chance. Call it a hot take if you want, but some decks are too efficient and I understand why Terrortop is at 1 in the TCG because of what I can do in my deck, though if someone else can explain the interactions it can do for other decks, I'd love to know!

It's simple just have it be where links can't use tuners to link. Also I would say that XYZ summoning is harder than synchro is mainly because you have to build your deck around the different ranked monsters depending on what you're doing but XYZ focused decks are way harder in my opinion Yes you did need just two of the same level but if you don't have proper level modulation or they don't sync up and no pun intended then.

    2020~2021 gave Synchro archetypes much more freedom and we got lots of competitive stuff for their times such as Adamancipator, Swordsoul, Infernobles, Virtual World (half XYZ, but still), Mannadium, Centur-ion and Tenpai Dragons.
    Thing is, we are sadly once again in a moment of Konami nerfing Synchro monsters with the bans of Baronne and Borreload as the most recent examples while the broken cards for Fusion/XYZ/Link strategies are free to stay for really far longer.

    As a Swordsoul player, despite feeling bummed out with Baronne de Fleur being banned, I'm still hoping for a way to continue playing Yu-Gi-Oh without binge spending on another deck that's considered expensive. After all, Swordsoul has been my favorite deck since 2022.

      Binge $40-50 for an Archnemeses Protos and hop back on those Swordsouls, Big Chungus is still a heck of a card.

    The difference in design between Synchros and XYZ during both of their tenure were that XYZ had more powerful effects, but were temporary, while Synchros had powerful long-term effects.
    We should take this to its natural conclusion, make Synchro Monsters incredibly sticky and difficult to get rid of, or make them float back onto the field very easily or into another just as powerful Synchro.

    I dont think its going to happen in master duel and the ocg. The ocg will continue to balance the game in there own way being consistency hits so every deck doesnt just get killed like in the tcg.

    So what about red dragon archfiend? He’s gotten new support power and has a variety of options of playing. Personally I’ve been playing with red dragon archfiend for a year now and I’ve discovered many synchro options and strategies. I might be only limited to synchros but I’m ok with it as long as I got my synchro solution. I’ve even managed to go supernova in most duels and DP to win.

      Good luck going 2nd and trying to put a tuner on the board. A guardian chimera pop 2 could literally end your turn, or a simple book of moon will do that.
