As a person who went to Chicago in the summer, I can identify that Metra is one of the best but biggest commuter rails in the Illinois area. I have taken two of their lines before (MD-N the most, BNSF Line to Berwyn, IL once).
Hello Mike, an interesting video about the METRA passenger trains. I like that many of the F59PH and F59PHI locomotives are still in use. Thanks for the great video and have a nice Sunday. Best regards from Germany.
Very nice compilation of Metra trains! Thanks for sharing. I have quite a few of the new Borealis consists and the long standing Empire Builder around our area. Maybe a 'longer compilation of our summer sites is in order. Hmmm Your videos are top quality.
The BNSF line were supposed to get the MACH’s but BNSF being BNSF (petty) they didn’t want them because it had a 710 engine instead of a 645 which all the other F40’s have. So to answer your question, (in short) blame BNSF.
Sometimes I railfan at the Canal Street portal, and all of these locomotives you recorded are coming in and out every 10-ish minutes. Have you ever tried that spot?
I’ve seen a few bit of Metra trains when I was in Chicago, but all the crossings that I saw, had quiet zones. Which places are good to railfan for me next time with crossings having the horns sounded

It's hard to pick just one. I really like the Milwaukee West line because I think it has the best variety of photo locations, but they're all interesting and unique!
A few of the trains shown have one car that's painted blue (possibly with white trim), rather than the usual bare metal (for want of a better term). What is different about the blue cars?
Mike what is the status with 2105? It’s still in storage along with ATSF 5704. I also heard something about the SCRM trying to acquire a CalTrain F40, you have any new info?
These seem more like "real" trains than el "trains" of the CTA. Must be the locomotives and the railroad crossings. 7:45 - Great shot of the Sears . . . I mean, "Willis" tower.
The Railfan treasure trove of a railroad!! If you’re looking for a commuter train that operates EMDs and nothing else, then Metra is for you!
That sums it up pretty well!
@@CoasterFan2105My favorite Trains are Freight Trains but I like Passenger Trains.
@@CoasterFan2105Oh btw I'll give you a shout out in one of my Train Videos.

Well... at least you got Kenosha, but there's basically nothing
I know it's nostalgic but I really hope Metra gets some rolling stock that looks like it's from this century soon lol
They should be getting some new Alstom cars in the next few years!
Thank you for my childhood
I love my AM power naps commuting on Metra's southwest service. So much better then driving to work
Awesome video!
Thanks so much! Really appreciate it!
No problem!
Hands down my favorite passenger railway in Illinois.
I have never rode metra trains in Chicago but, those old locomotives will be forever ongoing
Happy 40th Anniversary ,Metra Trainset!

Why does the BNSF line only have F40s while the other lines get the new locomotives and the F59

Most of the system is a quiet zone, but there are still a few crossings that aren't. Thanks for watching!
Rockland Rd in Rondout, IL is a good spot for that
The way the MP36s sound at Run 8 is unmatched. 6:30 7:37
Do you know where you railfanned in the first clip?
It's my childhood dream see them in reality 😢 but sadly I can't see them nor I have model train set 😢
Nice.. 👍👍
Metra has some really nice horns! wish all the coaster horns were like that.
