  • “Telstar 1” is the first active telecommunication satellite launched on July 10, 1962, more than 50 years ago. It relayed television broadcast from the U.S. to France as first time in the history.
A British band called The Tornados launched this tune “Telstar” and it stormed to the top of the Single Chart of HOT 100 of the U.S. “Billboard” in December 1962.
The tune feels like Techno music and also nostalgic, like dreaming bright future where people travels from star to star. I was not born yet then but heard that it was popular in Japan too. Also, I remember the tune had been used as a theme or ending of some radio show.
Unfortunately the “Telstar 1” became broken within a few months from the launch by the influence of radiation from a high-altitude nuclear weapon test. But the name was succeeded by the following satellites and currently the “Telstar 19V” is active and working. The “Telstar 1” itself is said to be orbiting the earth even now.
Later The Tornados has broken up and the composer of the tune, Joe Meek, who was also the producer of the band, committed suicide in 1967. He might be dreaming still far-away space age at his end of life.
In this project, I used Roland SYSTEM-100, a remnant of the age of analog synthesis, which was salvaged from my husband’s old house, in addition to TTS-1 plug-in synth which comes with SONAR. The sound of SYSTEM-100 is blended very well with Theremin maybe because they are both analog synthesizers. The sound effects are the mixture of the actual launching sound of Thor-Delta Rocket which brought the Telstar 1 to the space and synthesized sounds of Theremin and SYSTEM-100.
In the original tune of “Telstar” by the Tornados, “Clavioline” had been used for the melody, which is an electric keyboard instrument invented in 1947 in France.

The Theremin is a very difficult instrument to master, and it's one of the very rare instruments in the whole world..... The rendition of Telstar sounded awesome in this....!!!! Great job... Ma'am!!!
Greetings from an Indian living in Kathmandu, Nepal...

Thanks for listening. I am glad to get your message from the glorious city of Kathmandu.
The theremin is a bit difficult to master, but it is a fun instrument. It is rather popular in Japan. Is it quite rare in Nepal?
Recently, however, the American company moog, which manufactures the Etherwave Theremin, moved its production base to China. This has raised concerns about whether or not theremins that work properly at a relatively reasonable price will continue to be distributed safely around the world. I hope that we will continue to be able to obtain a playable Theremin in the future.

@@aranyaofficial7082 Wherever the theremin is manufactured, I hope it will be available everywhere in the world for everyone to enjoy.
It saddens me that another terrible war has started while we are having this conversation. I hope everyone will be able to play music and live in peace.

Thank you for your creativity and reminding me that , originally, electronic sounds were produced by the operator passing his/her hands through the "stream". Telstar was our first communication satellite and the music was played the first time using electronic "instruments". It is good to see musicians finding creative ways of producing sound. I hope to enjoy more of your work.

This is a song nearly 60 years ago, and this year is exactly 100 years since the theremin was invented. I hope it will be a future in which humans can enjoy playing with their own hands even if electronic musical instruments advance. I would like to continue to enjoy it.

Wow. This was amazing, the sound was excellent. I have the Tornados original version on a 45 rpm record and this one is just as good as the original. Well done Miquette.

By the way, I believe it's best to listen to this song on a 45 rpm record.
It's truly an honor to hear that you think it's as good as the original. I put in effort to create the orchestration, and it feels rewarding to know that playing the theremin was worthwhile.

I congratulate you for having been able to create concerts with your highly virtuoso theremin and your choice of accompaniments. Crazy beautiful. Ecstatic: Bravo & Thank you.
