I actually heard this played live on a pipe organ recently. A great experience, and somewhat unexpected, since it wasn't part of the official program. I guess the organist just couldn't resist!
This instrument is quite reminiscent of the organ's sound at times.

The piece is supposed to switch in and out of a similar sound to this, but I've only heard one version of it played on organ correctly. I listened to it a while ago, so sadly I can't find the recording.
This becomes more amazing when you realize they have to memorize which ones to play, the amount of hours of practice it takes to learn the song, and be in sync with one another.

I tried to tell people for decades: Bach can be played on sticks and stones and still retain essential characteristics.
Very few ( if any) composers for which I can say the same.
A truly memorably performance of perhaps the most striking pieces in the baroque canon. The coordination between the two musicians is impeccable and the sound simply lovely.
The coordinated movement of the players adds a theatrical dimension to an already magnificent piece of music.
It not only sounds striking, but I'm also impressed by what I'm watching!

Stellar, angelic, perfection, and yes- moved me to tears. I have played many Bach pieces in many orchestras(viola), but NEVER have I experienced the joy of these two amazing musicians.
The time it must have taken to line up the glasses, put the exact amount of water, then MEMORIZED every note on every glass of that powerful piece of music!

Wow! Not only it was beautiful to hear, but to actually understand the difficulty behind what they do so easily 😮. I'm amazed! They have to perfect the technique to make the glasses sound consistently and uniformly, they also have to do circular motions with both hands in different directions and because the size of the glasses are different so is the speed. Add to that how do they know what note is played by what glass. On top of that, they had to coordinate with another person the whole choreography! There were times they seemed to have their arms intertwined! Magnificent job ❤🎉

Ну память тут не так уж и важна. Тут бокалы расставлены в необходимом порядке, принцип почти как на том же пианино или органе. А вот точность движений тут важна более чем
@@mattias_leino Возможно, я не музыкант, не знаю. Читая комменты я вижу как ими восторгаются профессиональные музыканты. Нужно иметь идеальный слух, чтобы правильно разлить воду, в бокалы и появилась именно та тональность, которая нужна при игре в оркестре. Вот были 2 абсолютно професс.музыканта Сальери и Моцарт. Один аскет и даже дал обет Богу посвятив себя музыке, а другой гуляка с даром от Бога. Чтобы так играть Баха на бокалах, нужен не просто техничечкий такт и слух, а дар. Божий дар. Если мне собрать все лучшие бокалы мира я из каждого выпью и хватит с меня. Вот так.

В бокалы налита вода - сколько её надо налить в каждую ёмкость, чтобы звук был чист и не раздражал, а ласкал слух.
Да ведь никто не рискнёт проделать такую работу, которую эта пара проделывает на слух перед каждым выступлением, добиваясь буквально филигранного звучания известного практически всем музыкального произведения, но звучащего ТАК ВОСТОРГАЮЩЕ СВЕЖО И ПО-НОВОМУ...

Of all versions I’ve ever heard, this it the one that’s sound caught and transported what I feel when I hear this melody best… in the high register it sounds like an strange organ, in the lower register it’s more like a bowed saw or something of that kind… it’s absolute and fulfilled beauty… a masterpieces of a masterpiece.

I've never seen it done before without water to tune the glass. I'm guessing the glass was custom made. It made me realize a instrument like a piano could be built and should never need to be tuned, only replacement glass in the proper key if one should shatter.

So hauntingly beautiful, I am moved to tears by the musicianship and technique. Every single note Bach wrote is there with all the nuances, drama and dynamics. I am truly mesmerized by this stellar performance. Once again the genius of J S Bach shines through. Bach translates to any medium with integrity, keeping true to original content.
Why do mathematicians love Bach? This question is easy to answer. Even ELP did it well.
ELP did it well because it was written well. You could play Bach on kazoos and the music is there without losing in "translation". I have an album from back in the day of The Harmonicats performing Bach on harmonicas. Their version of The Little Cute in g minor is capivating. Im sure Bach would love it.

Imagine this echoing throughout a MASSSSSIVE hall,.. hearing the subtle, dreamy yet powerful reverberations.
I’ve watched someone play this on a church organ and that was impressive. But this is just mind blowing. To be able to remember all those notes and the placement of the glasses and to work in tandem amazes me. While it’s not the powerful sound of most renditions of this piece of music that I’m used to, there is something strangely lilting and beautiful about it.

Ummmm... how to describe this!!??? All I could think of was how much time, effort, patience, teamwork and perseverance it must have taken to master not only this song... but this Instrument. Amazing!!
I mean this is almost more amazing than the pipe organ just think of it the glasses have to be filled exactly to the right level they have to be touched with the finger exactly right to produce the sound it's just unbelievable
