My favorite Kim Novak movie,,, and Coral Browne ( Vincent Prices wife) is wonderful, too! For those saying this was the end of Novak's career,, do your homework,, as it certainly was not!!! Go Lylah!!🤗🇫🇷💕💋
Where did that voice come from!?! I've never seen the film but at this moment I'm glad because the surprise of hearing that was worth it! This was great!
Do see this film!! It's rather bizarre but she's worth every minute. Tuesday Weld played the part before her on television. The change of voice comes in when the spirit of the dead goddess takes over her body!
The German accented voice is Hildegard Knef. Novak said she didn’t know the scenes where she’s “possessed” got dubbed until the premier and she was horrified that Aldrich had done that and not told her.
LOL! Coral Browne was a really great actress (look her up as Mrs Croft in The Killing Of Sister George if you want to see more of her in this type of role!)... ruclips.net/video/rZPyWdD_R-s/видео.html
Coral Brown was excellent and her somewhat different personality matched Vincent Prices offbeat personality perfect as husband and wife in later years.
One critic summed up the cheesiness of the Lylah Clare character perfectly: "The title character is as synthetic as the movie itself; they gave the unfortunate Miss Novak Harlow's hair, Dietrich's voice, Monroe's pout, and Garbo's career." Rent or buy "Vertigo" or "Bell, Book and Candle", if you want to see the lovely Novak shown off to her best advantage. (And then look up her paintings online, and read about her decades of work on behalf of animals, to see just what a multifaceted lady she is. The phrase "not just another pretty face" could have been invented with her in mind.)
That was pure 1960s hair. Jean Harlow never had that hair. Monroe certainly did. The voice is Kims natural voice, excepting that possessed accented tirade. Kim had a deep guttural voice used in several films, like Jeanne Eagels and Of Human Bondage. Nothing of Garbo here, much less of her career! Bell Book& Candle or Strangers When we Meet are 2 great Kim films.
This movie in full before, couple of times in fact. This is where the underdog ate the vicious critic in half. Actors should see this movie to learn how to dump power hungry creep of a critic. Turn the tide and hit them (cheap critics) right on their worm infested guts!
The film may have been trashy however Kim was as allways outstanding, this particuler scene has stood out in my mind for 40 years since i first saw it, regardlless of what other people think, her transformation from sweet innocent starlet to Lilah Clair is a standout of revenge for Molly Luther who just dirtied her dress.Trashy but great in my books!
When i see movies or TV programs that have someone's portrait (Kim Novak's in"The Legend of Lylah Clare", the TV movie "A Death at Love House", Lara Parker's portrait in episodes of "Dark Shadows"), I wonder what became of those portraits after the movie or TV show was finished.
I do too! Always wonder if they give them to the actors. Like did Hurd Hatfield get his portrait of Dorian Grey? Also side note: I went to HS with a girl whose dad was an ABC cameraman who worked on Dark Shadows. They had furniture from the set in there house in NJ!
@@samanthab1923 That is so cool to have furniture from Collinwood Manor! There was some nice-looking furniture on those sets and I wouldn't be the least surprised if those pieces of furniture were well-made, durable items.---I've read that Jennifer Jones kept the portait of herself from "Portrait of Jennie". Sadly that painting was lost in a fire started by one of the California earthquakes.

The man who asks, "What do you know about Stanislavski?" and who see in a couple of places before that: is he the real-life journalist Sidney Skolski who was a good friend of Marilyn Monroe? Speaking of Stanslavski, I read an account that Mr. Skolski wasa with Marilyn and also Shelley Winters when the two actresses were informed about Method acting classes being offered somewhere, Stanislavksi being one of the most important figures in Method acting. Marilyn and Shelley took off right away for the class. Sidney Skolski who didn't drive was left behind!
The ONLY scene worth watching in this horror crap film. Career ending for Novak, still at her beauty peak, but God what creepy possessed acting, she must have been on an LSD trip. Right up there with Mae West's 'Sextette'.
She did what she was told. The classic studio system was already dying. Novak said good roles just weren't coming her way and she didn't want to do a tv series. She said they were offering her "beach party" type films so she said goodbye.
thanks for letting us know what the damn film is with peter finch. is it worth waiting for to find out or won't that possibility be even existing, 10 thumbs down for being so secretive.
hebneh - Have you ever heard Kim’s actual speaking voice? She has one of the lowest voices of all leading ladies. That could easily have been her voice.
@@redbluesome2829 Yes, I've heard Kim's real voice. She is speaking in it for most of this scene. I'm asking if the fake dubbed voice with the German accent is supposed to be this character's "real" voice, which she is reverting to for some reason. Or is she putting it on, and "acting"?
@@redbluesome2829 I agree that Ms. Novak's voice could have been used in this scene. Not only does she have a deep voice but being from the Chicago area and probably having known many people from recent immigrant backgrounds could have replicated their style of speaking and accent. Kim Novak and I have never met in person but are actually cousins. I've had relatives who were born in Chicago but spoke English as a second language. My relatives that I knew from there were of a German (maybe Polish also) and Roman Catholic background (I think that Kim Novak who is Slovakian is also from a Catholic background or maybe Orthodox) but there was sometimes what might be called a Yiddish-sounding lilt or style of speech. Kim Novak is probably familiar with a variety of ways of speaking and in different langauges just from her own growing up years.
