This has to be a record for build time. fantastic job !
Good for you Virgil! Lots of hard work has paid off. The very best to you and your family and prayers on spreading the best news man will ever hear.
Wonderful, thanks for documenting the build here
Excellent stuff bro
Great job! I've been thinking how to configure the intake and oil cooler path....definitely took some notes
She's a beauty Clark!
Congrats man! You did it in such a short time. Let me know if you’re ever in CO. Would love to see it in person.
So cool!!
Nice job safe and happy flying
Congrats Virg!
Beautiful job! Great video series too. Thanks for doing it. I found it helpful in my BH Patrol build. The pod really looks beyond great. Also, the tray-type floor panels are super slick. Future projects both maybe. Especially since the Patrol has a rather smaller baggage pod. Is that your own landing gear design?
Go get em Bro!!💪👍
I want one. I will build one.
where can you get training for the bearhawk 5?
Not really easy to come by as there are only two flying. They are gentle airplanes as long as you have good tailwheel skills.
Nicely done Virgil. One question, why the wing struts? I thought bearhawk 5 was designed to not need them due to the wing construction.
Nope all the Bearhawk’s are a single strut wing design.
Honest mistake. Thank you for correcting me. I was thinking of why this plane has one strut rather than two struts like most high wing aircraft. That’s because of the all metal design and the structural metal skin.
So how does the plane get to Africa now?
@@FlyBikeCampAK shipping container and I get to take it apart again. Lol. We are gonna do some flying first though.
Hey Virgil, quick question what was the reason for building an aircraft from a kit versus sourcing a Helio Courier and modernizing it? That aircraft seems to have been a very popular choice for your given mission. Curious why that was ruled out or not considered.
I love helio’s and it would have been a great option but they cannot legally be run on auto fuel and finding parts to keep them flying is getting very difficult. No mission agencies have been able to keep them active on the field. I have a video titled the big bush plane shootout that explains more. But essentially it comes down the the lack of parts and fuel availability. This bearhawk runs on auto fuel which is essential in our environment.

@@The-virgHas anyone bothered to transition a courier from a certified to an experimental? Seems like that would permit a conversion to auto gas. Good point about parts availability. Seems like there is a really limited pool of options in the single piston, 6 place, STOL category. I like the bearhawk, but am not inclined to want to build one, but no one seems to build complete for resale. I would guess your recent build is worth at least $300k maybe more. It would seem there is no shortage of demand for this class of aircraft but perhaps the requirement for sub $300k price tag makes building new just about impossible. Again would love a bearhawk, but I’d want to buy complete from a reputable builder like yourself.
@@FlyBikeCampAK not that I know of. You would have to be in the experimental exhibition category which complicates things abit. Hardest part to find right now is the cary through spars which can’t be easily made.
