Fabulous, I was glued to the screen. I didn't know about the Carburettor side of the business, what a brilliant operation. It is so good to know when buying carburettor parts, they are as they exactly as they should be, good quality and made in the UK.
Any chance of making an adult sized version of the pedal car. I feel for all the restorers who can never enjoy a ride after all their love and attention! 😂😂
@@RoyCousins that would be amazing! I am sure there would be a market for that car especially if it could be “modernised” with a hydrogen motor or even the same type of power plant that Toyota are moving towards. I.E. electric with LPG/Gas/Hydrogen generator. So much cooler than current. Roy, if I can ask, do you live in Hertfordshire?
Brilliant. Did not ever imaagine how much time and tooling to end with all this, which brings you thinking of the costs spent on tooling. Well done Austin pedal Cars
In a perfect world, every business would be run with the care and dedication we saw here. It was tremendously enjoyable to visit this place with you. I'm truly thrilled. 😊
That has to be one of the best factory tours, I was "rivetted" to the screen, modern technology and old school hands on experts working side by side, absolutely mind blowing. Top marks for the tour Austin Pedal Cars👍👍👍👍 Hope they test the dash pots on those SU's😂😂
Fantastic! I can't believe the level of technology and precision employed to create, what is essentially, a toy! Perhaps if the British car industry had been this focused in the 70s and 80s, I might still be thriving today. A model company in both senses of the word. And the Amal carb stuff at the end was just the cherry on the cake!
Great to see these guys keeping the old skills alive and passing on their knowledge to a new generation. Thank you Don for a very enjoyable 30 odd minutes. What's nect?
I’ve been looking forward to this episode and it did not disappoint - absolutely fascinating! Thanks for taking us along on the factory tour and thanks to everyone there for showing us the amazing things they’re doing 👌
When I first started my apprenticeship I was taught how to service and adjust su fuel pumps. We also used to tune a lot of su carbs on our rolling road
I just want to echo what others have already commented: that was absolutely fascinating. I knew the reputation of Burlen as carburettor restorers but did not know that it was the parent company of Austin Pedal Cars. Wonderful that they have retained all the new old stock parts for the 'vintage' carburettors and fuel pumps. I look forward to seeing the completion of your J40. Best wishes.
Hi Dom absolutely brilliant video mate , well worth a watch. Thanks s much for taking the time to make it , I love these cars , when I was very young my mum would take me in to the Austin show room in Reading and ask the sales manager if I could sit in one of the pedal cars by the front door , I always chose the red one , so great to see they are still making all the parts for them . And the SU carbs . Best regards uncle Franko ❤️
Wow, that's an amazing workshop! Imagine if they hadn't saved of all the original equipment and parts. So many machines would have just been lost. Awesome
Dom, that was a fascinating tour. That’s the sort of thing they should offer up for people to see old meets new Anyway hurry up and get the bits out and finish the pedal car 👍
well that was a blast!!! As a kid, I would have wanted one sooo bad, as an adult I have enough understanding as to what goes into making these and appreciate the design, engineering and manufacturing that goes into them. Its neat to see the old being replicated and continued for the present and future. I would love to see an engine or electric version of these, The bodies are so well made, wheels and tires that it is dying to have a power plant in there!!!
I really enjoyed this episode. It’s fantastic that there are businesses like this keeping the traditional craft skills necessary to keep these cars going. And nice that it’s modern technologies such as 3-D printing and laser techniques that are helping to achieve this great episode.
What amazes me is the amount of product development-cost etc that has gone into the production of a limited requirement product, just shows that world wide even with a limited product you can make a successful company if you build in nostalgia
My father had a Austin A40 truck, had it for years never missed a beat, don't know what happened to it ,hope it wasn't scrapped.Great video Dom,unbelievable that they still make and recon Amal carbs etc,I never new that outfit existed, great video, just awesum.
That was so cool to see. It was a neat surprise to see that the SU carburetors, fuel pumps, and parts are sourced there now. I sent my HS4’s back to a rebuilder in New York and they are working beautifully on my NA MGB GT. Now I know why those parts are so expensive with the amount of sophisticated machinery cranking out all of those perfect parts. Fascinating that the testing was being done on some of the original equipment. Good show and awesome that they walked you and us through the process.
What a place, who knew that it even existed. The investment in time and money to be able to keep that all going has to be huge, well done them and thanks for taking us along, great one
Brilliant. Great video. What an operation, people, processes and quality. Good to see. Did laugh at seeing the US currency symbol on the parts bins in the stockroom. Cheers mate.
Burlen fuel systems are awesome. I use them all the time at john chatham cars. Restoring and rebuilding carburettors for austin healeys, jaguars and everything in between. Great guys that are passionate and knowledgeable in their field. We highly recommend them
Brilliant Dom Thank's for the Tour All, why is Britain so far behind, this an example to what we can do nice one Guy's and good luck for the future !!!. 😀😀👍👍🏁🚙🚙.
Brilliant. This was an amazing shop tour. Unbelievable the amount and variety of inventory they have. And SU, Amel and Zenith carbs. WOW. Such a shame the tour had to come to and end so soon.
@@franmanley1635 Same here. I used to dread Sunday afternoon and evening coming around and the thought of school of Monday. Now a new video from Dom makes it the best part of the week.
Had a pair of SU HS6 carbs rebuilt by Burlen for an MGB GT I had, rebuilt with my choice of jets, came back like new and when fitted car started on first turn of the key and only needed slight adjustment for optimal running. An excellent company with great service.
Dom ! I think l've run out of superlatives ! Talk about Aladdins Cave , my goodness ! You must have thought you were day dreaming . I remember a friend bought a good one in 1989 for £60 and l thought what a waste !!! I have an identical "spoon" in my tool box . Thanks Dom ' really enjoyable 😂
Never realised that Amal carbs were not produced by the original company any more. I knew you could get parts as I've bought some for my 1976 Triumph Tiger, but didn't know they came from Austin pedals cars. Great video Dom, thanks
That was a fantastic and fascinating video Dom, thank you very much for doing that. Iv wondered for a long time how they made a lot of there parts, and the fuel side. I’d recommend buying there J40 book they launched last year also, not cheap by any way, but the amount of work gone into it and research is astounding!
I've viewed all your video Dom. I would put this one in the top ten. I was blown away by what J40 Pedal Cars do. More videos like this, please.
How refreshing to see we still make something in Britain . Well done them.
Hopefully we will join you in America. Manufacturing is vital to a country's societal and economic health.
I thank Austin Pedal Cars for allowing you to show us the inter workings. It was all very fascinating to watch.

A trip back to a bit of good old British industry and engineering, brought bang up to date. Very interesting video. Thanks.

This was fascinating. Thanks for taking us along for the tour. Cheers Dom
Glad you enjoyed it

The closest would be an A40 Devon/Dorset Tourer, made in Australia and NZ. Or perhaps the A40 Sports, made by Jensen for Austin.
