- The iPad mini 1, while really modern looking, holds some not so great surprises inside. In this video, I'll be seeing how well this tablet holds up in the current year!
Note: Apparently Siri was recently fixed for iOS 5-8, so disregard the point made in this video, it was not working when it was published.

Just noticed this has 500 views, this was definetly better than most other tech content creator working with high end stuff and stuff we won’t ever use
I appreciate the kind words! I do hope to get a studio someday (or at the very least, make a studio in my apartment or home) when I move out, but unfortunately, I don't have that kind of space right now! I just have to do the best with what I've got!
iPad mini was my introductions to apple world... since then i have bought myself a iPhone 7 ,11, 15 , macbook pro , and ipad 10 now ... that mini has a sweet memory in my child and academia life... fun fact i still have that ipad mini it still works which blows my mind i little sister uses it as a kindle and the reason why i shifted to apple everything
I have the same iPad, and i love it, it's no longer working with almost all apps, but still, it's an incredible device. I wish there was continued support because the build quality was amazing. It's a shame that Apple limits the software.
Jailbreak development may be the key
I still have this device, stuck at 7.1 I think. I use it only as an ebook reader, can still read for 10+ hours, even after almost a decade since I bought it in 2013.

My sister does own an iPad Mini (1st Gen) in which I was able to use as well back when we were in College in exchange for my iPod Touch 5th Gen.. definitely an awesome Tablet back then.. Still works perfectly fine RN and using it sometimes for Spotify..
This was my first ipad. I'm on the M4 pro now, but I loved that mini so much. I did get mine with iOS 8.1 out the box, so did upgrade to the first gen air the next year
This was a hand me down from my dad back in 2015. I used it a lot until I got my first phone which was an Iphone 6s back in 2016, I gotta say the mini was like an Iphone to me
It was to a lot of people, I’d say, and I was actually considering getting an iPad mini as my phone a while ago!

Actually 32 bit apps can run on 64 bit devices as long as you have an ios version older than ios 11

I absolutely wanted to, but it’s difficult when I don’t have the space to be able to take good b-roll, so I work with what I’ve got! :)

@@MattsTech Well as long as you have a well-lit place to do so, that could work, it does not need to be perfect. Maybe you could make a bunch of B-Roll for different devices and just hold on to them till you need them for a video. I know channels like Talosive B-Roll and Random Alpha B-Roll have free-to-use B-Roll of tech and stuff, which is also an option.

I have this iPad mini, and it is using 9.3.5 OS. I do not want to Jailbreak it, for fear of ruining it. Too bad I cannot transfer my data from my iPad Mini to an IPAD2.

Hey, if anything, you can jailbreak it and dual-boot other iOS versions on it for fun!
I think the software problem that you were getting on devices with the A5 chip like this iPad, iPhone 4s where they had too long software support for what the hardware was capable of running was the exact opposite of the software problem for older Samsung Galaxy flagships like the Galaxy S8 or S9. Their problem was that their software support was too short and you ended up with a phone that still had very good performing hardware on their last version of software, but the only problem was that you couldn't update the version of Android any farther even though the hardware technically could handle a much newer version of Android.
I still remember having it back then, after some updates the ipad became so bad its unusable... Always crashes lag etc
The only good thing it had is a yt with no ads (which i think is a gltich)
Still use mine that has a working version of Spotify to stream music to a Bluetooth speaker while I’m outside/in hot tub, but yeah pretty much every app stopped working in like 2018 and who knows when Spotify will stop allowing this version. Going to try and drag it to an iPod touch 5g to see if I could get it to work on it

@@ChantelleLouise RUclips app was one of the first things to stop working, I had a version so old that there weren’t any mid video ads. Browser RUclips still works if you can stomach how slow the iPad runs on 9.3.5

Wrong from toe to head.
I can play GTA Triology in this thing, Minecraft and a lot of other apps. Of course is not at 60 FPS in some games, but it's very usable if you're a bit patient.

Ultimately, it's up to you and what you'd want, the 9th generation and 10th generation iPads aren't too different spec-wise, and should get similar amounts of software support. If you want the newer iPad design, with a USB-C port and a keyboard case, then I'd get the 10th gen, and if not, then I'd do the 9th gen! They're both great options.
The device wont fuction well due to battery failure trust me from exoerience ive had ipads since i was 4 and i am 14 now my ipad mini 1 started having issues after i used cheap chargers for my ipad and the battery was slowly dieing so if your ipad is slow check the battery go to an expert before its too late... For me it was late i let it charge overnight woke up went up to it it was still functioning but sadly when i came from school i open my ipad last thing i saw was a big screen butn and it closed forever it was worth it for me it lastrd 8 years and i am searching to repair it to this day 😢
The first gen iPads do not throttle due to bad batteries. Regardless of how healthy the battery is, the device will always be slow on iOS 9.

I don’t think any of them do, unfortunately, I apologize. I think you can get them to work with jailbreak tweaks though.

The RUclips app unfortunately doesn't function anymore on iOS 9 without jailbreak tweaks.
You can use RUclips in the browser (Safari)
Though it's a little slow & not exactly a good experience, but it can run it
So if you have iOS 8 or later, you can make it into a stream deck with updeck app & software. Save yourself +$100. I am going to do that because my ipad in a 16GB. There's not even enough room to swing a dog's d**k on this thing.
It's great you made this video tho. there's a lot of us that like using our devices until they breathe their last breath.

Roblox won’t run well on an iPad mini 2. Get an iPad mini 5 or later so that it has software support from Apple.
they discontinued everything before it actually (due to them going to 64 bit, also means that oses earlier than ios 11 wont run roblox), which means you CAN run roblox but it will probably not run that great. If you’re getting an ipad mini 2 JUST for roblox, it isnt worth it, and usually even for other stuff it isnt worth it unless u get a really good deal

9:39 I remember that. My air 1 on iOS 12 will sometimes do it because storage is a constant nightmare and constantly haunts my nightmares. I don’t agree in the slightest with the relative of mine who bought 16 gb. The lowest I can humanly live with is 32 gb.

I should just get that video done and over with, it wouldn’t even take that long to film, worst part is editing (and in my case narrating because of the sometimes astonishing amount of interruptions or distractions I face at home, yay).
