    It's amazing how just a little frill " Timber Like Framing " can add so much value relative to the labor and materials . My house was similar from the road .. So I framed a porch , Laid a natural rock skirt , Took 4x6's from Home Depot and scored them with a chipped planer to mimic rough sawn , " You can even do this by dragging a Sawzall at any angle to rough up the wood" Put a hand designed scroll on the overhang . Angled the barge rafter out a few degrees , Installed the king post and made two curved queens , overframed existing roof with typical framing , Roof sheathing was merely 8" oc center T-111 flipped upside down to mimic T&G from below . Stained it all and it looks like a $30,000 timber frame .. Complete project was $1500 in material . Added 20% more value to my house . On the timber rafters . Just spaced them equidistantly and eye pleasingly apart . . Loved it guys .

    I have seen MANY staples backing out through the shingles, ring shank is the ONLY roof deck fastener that NEVER causes leaks. Most framers never go back to a roof 20-30 years later to see how their work cost the homeowner a TON of money.

      Last year we did two IKO Dynasty warrantied replacements, 5 year old homes. With Stapled OSB. We did entirely too much nailing from loose staples. There were already leaks from backed out staples, and the shingle layers were glued and not lifted as they are when nails or staples are sticking out from new. Galvanized Ring shanks will hold it people. The fact that you are basically required to double nail when you staple says ALOT.

      @@Coffmanconstruction I think what he means is you made it harder by removing it in one big ass chunk. I would have spent an additional 5 to 10 minutes and cut it into smaller pieces so I could toss them down easily. I wouldn't consider that wasted time if it makes things easier on me physically. Additionally it's not that it took you a massive amount of extra time how you did it, just more effort and it also "could" have caused damage or injury if something went wrong.
      Doesn't matter now, what's done is done, I would say maybe think about that in your future endeavors. Always do things in manner that saves your body wear and tear, since in our vocation, your body is literally the money maker. God job bud, keep at it

  • @redneckgoatfarmer
    @redneckgoatfarmer 4 месяца назад +9

    Let me just say, and these are just my opinions. The post are the wrong scale, especially compared to that massive cross member. And the roof pitch doesn’t come even close to matching it’s neighboring gable or the houses roof pitch. So now it’s a suburban ranch style home with an entrance that looks like it should be on a mountain style log cabin. Did anyone consider the aesthetics? One last thing, if I was to insist on it. I would have lowered it so the facia died into the walls not the roof, that would have at least lowered the roof peak and made the entrance more intimate, and look less just stuck on.

    • @Coffmanconstruction
      @Coffmanconstruction  4 месяца назад +4

      They wanted a grand entrance! We had to raise the roof because otherwise they couldn’t fit the door that want, the original soffit is only 7’ off the ground, which may feel intimate, or in my opinion, crowded, the existing 4/12 pitch on a 9’ wide porch would honestly look rather pathetic to me in my opinion, even at a 12/12 we got 54” of rise, and that would have been cut into a third, at 18” if we matched the pitch, making the entire timber point practically useless. So I do agree with you in the sense that matching the pitch would never catch someone’s eye. But thankfully our goal was to catch the eye and be a main focus to this otherwise boring house (compared to the neighborhood at least)
      Either way I always appreciate any and all opinions🤘🏼
