I'm glad to see you stacked the LVL stringers when you made your cuts. I don't like those Simpson straps on the top and installing the stringers one at a time. I cut 3/4" from the back of the stringers and nail a 3/4" OSB riser to them instead. Then you can raise the whole unit at one time the same as a wall. No measuring for the position of each individual stringer. That holds all 3 stringers in perfect position. You can then nail the shit out of the riser far more than those straps!
I am getting ready to do some stair work. Framers did a good job ( big 4500 sq ft custom). However, the customer does not understand why I am charging more to finish his stairs for hardwood as opposed to just put in the skirts and let the carpet guys lay carpet. ( he changed his mind and wants hardwood now). So I explained the difference and why I had to add fir strips (3/4”) to accommodate the hardwood. I learned this by watching guys like you frame stairs for carpet or hardwood? Most guys that do finish realize to late that extra labor needed to added. And loose that couple hours of labor to cut and add fir strips to accommodate a 3/4 finished riser at the top! It pays to know your business and watch the framers put things together . No matter your age I am older than your dad , 2 nd career & I can not explain why I am obsessed with this business! The challenge is great! Keep learning !
best show on youtube. perkins comes in 2nd close behind. I trip on your cutting without guard on your worm drives. it must be that the blade brake kicks in immediately after?
I have a question about the air compressor hose🤔 should I be buying a pvc compressor hose or a rubber hose (I’m wanting to get into the trade in California)
You can put a scrap of ply at each end 12'' wide with 2x4 in middle for a stringer jig for each end to test then lay it over LVL.Also on a long span like you had you can do a closed or trapped tread and leave the LVL full, doing treads and risers off glued and screwed cleats.I just did this in a barn living quarter job, much stronger than cut stringer. If it goes bigger yet on span, then can go to same style but in glue lamb or timber and open treason those you use thick enough tread to meet 4'' code or have to do a drop down riser of some size on rear of toreador such for code.
Have you used the stair button on the calculator? It works good just type in your rise, hit stair and it will spit out everything you need to know. Just keep pressing the stair button over and over. Can adjust the run too.

That’s a interesting square also 100% agree with checking the stringers every chance 😂 feels like you get hit in the gut if you cut a lvl wrong

It makes it a lot safer that’s for sure, I definitely wouldn’t do it with a saw with no brake

I like the flex eel brand!

Those are great ideas!
@@Coffmanconstruction Ive been at it for forty years..
Whats the max amount of steps before you need a landing?
Good question! I’m not sure, I presume it depends on the stringer material

What nail gun is that?
It’s a hitachi high pressure gun!
Why doesn’t every nail gun have the air nozzle.
Beats me!
Golly gosh didn’t you over complicate that process 🤣
I remember my first time building stairs too 😂
