- The Marathon is earned, not given.
I've spent the past 4 months building and training to run a 2:50 marathon. In this video, I take you through my full marathon race weekend and show you everything from the days leading up to the race and the race itself. This is not the story of an elite runner. This is just the story of a regular guy who loves to run and test his limits. This is a story of perseverance and giving your all no matter what.
Thank you all so much for the support you have shown on this series, it means the world to me.

Nico, this brought me to tears. This outcome is far more inspiring than if you would have perfectly hit your goal. You don’t inspire us with numbers - you inspire us with your faith, perseverance, and commitment. This only makes me want to continue following your journey. We don’t resonate with a number; we resonate with your character.
This brought me to tears to. And your character will be forever be more I print than a number
I share the same feeling . As I’m training for my first half marathon this channel has helped me to get over my quitting pattern and push forward to my goals.
Wow! Beautifully said🎉🥹
This quaility of these videos are just getting higher and higher and I'm here for it.
It's just globerg style video editing. Every runner is biting his style
It's flobergs editing style. Every runner is taking his style
If you achieve your goals every race, you’re not setting the bar high enough. Nothing to be upset about. Great work!
Everything about the prep, running, and aftermath of a marathon is a metaphor for life. Good job, son.
I was one of the volunteers who set up the Eugene marathon and saw you running. I saw the perseverance and motivation. I was debating whether or not I should run it next year and you've cemented it for me. Thank you!
Nico, I hope you read this. Your video brought me to tears. I’ve been watching your vids and training for my first 5k. I’m a 34 year old dad, born n raised in AZ. Now in Ohio, my first 5k run was also April 28th. The diehard 5k here in Springfield Ohio. I placed 4th in my division. Now I’m training for a 10k in July. You inspire me, young man! I believe in you Nico, thanks for helping me believe in myself.
Sincerely, Gilly ❤
A truly visceral account of a goal in pursuit. Storytelling is a gift, and you have it. Thank you for the honesty and clarity.
I’ve been following your channel for a while now and it inspired me to run my first marathon last weekend in Cincy at the Flying Pig. My goal was a 3:30 and I was on pace to hit it until I cramped unlike anything before in my life at mile 22. It was so emotionally draining to go from euphoria to devastation in a split second, knowing the training and months of preparation wouldn’t be rewarded with the time I was hoping for. Bottom line, I finished race, as did you. It’s just a number after all. It pails in comparison to the lessons that running teaches us, and you relay these lessons in such a compelling way. Your content is beyond inspiring, and I thank you for sharing your journey with all of us. Best to you and take some time rest.
Respect
The pig is no joke brother. I was out there grinding with you. The humidity was horrible at the end.
Go up to columbus in the fall and you’ll see an insane difference.
Wow as I was reading your post I thought to myself wow did I write this!! Had the same exact goal and also at mile 22 left quad cramped up so hard. I finished but had to walk run in completely fell apart 😢. Everything else felt good and 16:57 strong that leg cramp folded me.
Felt the emotions you displayed in this video in my core. Rock on, Nico, you are amazing
Thanks for the feature at 22:43. Means a lot to have captured that interaction at the finish! You truly motivated me to go from a mediocre 3:49er to 2:58, and the sky feels like the limit now.
As a 34 year old mom who just started running, I really loved this. Seeing an elite runner who also has to face the mental battles of running was really encouraging to me. Even the way you talk about some runs being easy and free and others being a battle was so helpful. You’re an inspiring young man, and I wish you all the best!
Ayyy that’s me in the orange tank top and white arm sleeves @ 17:15!!
@aydenshonk That’s pretty cool, what was your time?
@@vlad4513 3:29 but my pr is 2:59 🥲
Such an incredible feeling to be finally watching the race vid! After having followed along both this prep and the previous, the progression is just so unbelievable to see. It was an incredible effort, and an honor to be improving in my own running alongside you, watching these amazing videos. Please keep doing more, they honestly always make my day, and motivate me beyond belief! 😊🙏
Nico you are one hell of a runner and what you did in that race is nothing short of incredible. Even tho you came up short of your goal you still hit a PR by a bunch. And the great thing about pr’ing is that you just did something you have never done before. So be proud of that and proud of the fact that you battled yourself to finish that race. Ik for sure you’ll break that 2:50 barrier next marathon.
I ran the Eugene race this last year as well and I am in your video just before mile 25! Ironically I also ate dinner at the same place and same time the night before the race. I remember running with you on the course around mile 25. I am 51 years old and was trying for sub 2:50 as well and ended up 2:51:39. I have run sub 2:50 barely twice before in 2021/2022. If you cut that much time from Chicago to Eugene, you will get that sub 2:50 sooner rather than later. I find that it took me getting close to running sub 2:50 to really understand what my body needed to feel like to push past that point and hit my goal. My goal for my next fall races (Erie/Indy) is sub 2:48. Thanks for posting this video and good luck at your next race! I see a big PR in your future. Trust your training, and believe in yourself.
“A little more persistence, a little more effort and what seemed hopeless failure may turn to glorious success”. Running has changed my life and watching your videos gives me hope to better myself to become a better runner and person
You know that sub 2:50 is just on the corner man, it's gonne be legendary bro
Did amazing, another step to the top💪
Great video. Also a great time and super progress. As a marathon veteran I promise you with an attitude like yours, you will be hitting 2.30 within the next 3 to 5 years max.
didn’t take nico very seriously when i saw him on the internet at first, but since then he has quickly not only became my favorite content creator, but a role model for me. as a varsity high school runner it’s hard to push forward sometimes and it’s hard to keep going, but nico has shown me not only that it’s possible but that the results WILL show. so thanks nico, seriously
Towards the end of track season I ran and ran but couldn’t hit my goal. I felt so defeated when I didn’t hit it. But I look at you running a marathon and now I feel better about my self and my running. Thank you for all the encouragement, I really love the vids
Nico, I appreciate your transparency in your videos! From someone that battles anxiety on a daily I struggle to show my emotions and seeing how real you are with how you feel in the lowest moments reassures me that I’m not alone in this fight. Love your videos man, and congrats on your marathon! Keep fighting, you will reach 2:50 very soon! 🏃🏽♂️
The end of this video gave me goosebumps. The community you have created and the inspiration you provide is way more than a time. You crushed that race and although it wasn't exactly what you wanted, there is way more positive to pull from this than your exact goal. You continue to show us all what hard work, dedication and perseverance will do!
You are easily one of if not the most inspiring people I have ever watched on RUclips. Super proud of you and your efforts man, it felt awesome to follow along this journey through your videos
Nico, I have probably already said it, but you are a huge inspiration to me. I am currently 15 years old and training for my first 15 k, I hope that this year, in 2024 I will be able to run a half marathon. Thank you Nico for showing a vulnerable and emotional side of yourself, that many RUclipsrs and influencers would not. You inspire me to become the best version of myself! keep up the amazing effort you put into your content and running!
This was such an emotional yet beautiful one to watch. I recently started running and I know the feeling of wanting to give up but not stopping till the finish line. You're a huge inspiration Nico
Im not the type of person to usual comment but this one hit me really hard. I don’t think I’ve ever been able to relate to a video so much. Theres so much pain and beauty in running and the highs are so high but lows are bottomlessly low. You’ve found such a beautiful way to capture that. This video truly brought me to tears. As a runner training for a race, we’ve all had such lows and you never know what all the training leading up to the race will amount too. No matter the result, be proud of what you’ve done. You’ve touched hundreds of thousands of lives around the world. Congrats on the race, be proud of that 2:52!
I completely understand the nervous feeling, but what I realized is that once you start thinking about the pain of a race, you have to just stop thinking, no matter what, because if you think too much about the pain then the race is over before it even begins and you will have no mental drive
Thank you for actually showing the reality of running and racing. Everything isn’t sunshine and rainbows and most people don’t see the nerves and struggles you go through before.
You're a huge hero, Nico. You inspire thousands of people to start running and to always push forward towards your goals. Once I heard one phrase: "You can be strong from the neck down, only if you're strong from the neck up". And you validate this phrase completely.
You're a big example of passion, consistency, hard and smart work and, of course, mental toughness.
I'm personally from Russia and you're one of the very first runners, who's inspired me to run more, pay close attention to recovery and nutrition. Honestly, everything you does, achieves in your life means a ton for me.
The last thing I wanna say is I'd like to see you achieving more, more and more in your life and getting better every single day. My congratulations. Further more.
It is inspiring and incredible to see your journey through running. You are truly a champion of our own. I just love it.
You're awesome, man. I used to run in my late 20's . After a long battle with drugs and alcohol, here I am 49, and you are one of the inspirations that has me doing it again. Did my first ever 5k this morning and I'm hooked again. This time for life.Thank you, buddy. Great videos. Great inspiration. And like Nick Bare says,"GO ONE MORE!"
Hey Nico If you read this and the others probably reading it but tomorrow is my first 12k and I am so scared it's nothing compared to this video but this video is giving me strength running has found something within me to make me fill proud, I will give it my best tomorrow thank you for your videos and your motivation - George from London
You cannot begin to explain or understand the amount of growth we just witnessed. What a beautiful sight brother thank you for sharing.
It's crazy. Seeing this video makes my heart so warm. I recently decided to become a marathoner after years of not running and I've been watching so many video to get me in the correct head space because I have some large goals. I was emotional the entire time watching this. It was almost like confirmation that this is what I need to do for my life. Ive always loved running and as I've gotten older, I know now that it's like freedom for me and to feel free is nearly necessity, ya know?
Thank you for sharing this with us. Hopefully I can come back with an update next year.
Omg this brought me to tears. I share all those same emotions, I felt like i was watching a video about me. Pre race nerves; anxious/scared, equating success to a specific time etc. it’s so scary setting a goal and chasing it. I think just doing that in and of itself is a huge accomplishment, whether or not we achieve it. Super proud of you brother, keep chipping away. It’s going to come
I’m crying in the club right now. Beyond proud to be a subscriber through it all. Your growth as a runner is inspiring. Through the highs and the lows. Congrats! You’ll get 2:50 no doubt
Waw this video made me cry, because I know that feeling of wanting to just stop and and we as runners all go through this but then at the back of your mind we push pass that doubt and remember all the sacrifice and months of training we put in for this moment and say no! Let's do this! I'm so proud of you man you are a big inspiration continue pushing because you are going to get that 2:50 PB sooner than you think. Well done on your race man always remember the running community has your back.😊
A PB at 2:52ish is something to be proud of and should be enjoyed. Most of us can't even run a marathon, let alone under 3hrs. Well done!
Just one of the most stunning, moving, inspiring videos. Watching Sophie hug you at the end is what got me fully crying!! So sweet. We are so proud to watch you here too.
Bless you for sharing your heart and passion with us - I am so touched I get to follow along and remind myself of these big moments to come on my 5ks 🥰 Thank you 🙏
Bro I appreciate you and how authentic you are. This video really resonates with me after running my first marathon last weekend. I also did not hit my goal, fell apart at the end, and was left with the decision of giving up or fighting until I crossed the finish line. I’m disappointed but extremely proud to have finished and hopefully inspire my family. You have a lot to be proud of and I have faith that this will make you stronger going forward. Much love and respect 🫡
This video was everything I needed and more. Thank you for inspiring us all. Your goal was 2:50 but also to inspire and help so many others and that goal you achieved hundreds of times over. Your words of encouragement will get us all through our rough runs. You’re a true source of inspiration so thank you for that and I believe you will get to 2:50 and beyond!
You are the first person I found when I entered the world of running. By far the best, most inspirational, entertaining and just an amazing person. Thank you the content you put out and motivating me to go one more and push myself daily. When you crossed the finish line I was crying with you brother
Nico- you are such a motivation and inspiration. So glad I found you… and so thankful for all you share. I’m building to my first marathon in 2025… and you’re helping me every step of the way. ❤
It takes so much bravery and courage to go out there in such a public way and set a goal and document all your hard work towards it. Only mad respect for you, Nico. Thanks for continuing to invite us to be a part of your journey and being so raw and real about it. Maybe you didn't meet your exact goal but you crushed that marathon for sure so a huge congratulations and well done, dude !!!!
Awesome run! Your will and discipline is strong, your vision is clear and your gratitude is humbling. Thanks for the inspiration i get to keep getting up in the morning and grind it out, its worth it. As a 56 yo dad and full-time w4 employee, seems like an up hill battle. No matter how difficult, it's worth the sweat. Congratulations on all your victories, especially this one.
I give you so much respect for internally having that desire and internally putting that stress on yourself for your goals
Started tearing up at the end - Man I love that feeling of finishing a race! And to see all the people you inspire come up and congratulate you just brought me so much joy!
You got me crying at work at 9am. Thank you for showing us your raw and authentic emotions. Continue what you’re doing, keep inspiring. Sending love from Toronto!
My first time watching a Nico video and not only did I cry…but what an inspiration to keep going. Thank you for sharing every part of your journey.
I have my first marathon this week. I've had some setbacks with my training due to injury but made a decision to finish what I started. Im not a spring chicken anymore (just turned 41) but I know I have the drive to accomplish great things. Thank you for your inspiring words and courage to share it with the world. I expect great things from you and the BPN team for many years to come. Congrats on the victory!
Nico, you are truly inspiring. Your videos have motivated me to keep moving, keep running - each and every day... go one more.
Iv'e been following you for a while now and the work you put into everything from your workouts to your videos is inspiring. After watching you run Chicago, I signed up for my own first marathon in Madrid on the same day you ran Eugene. As tough as it was, watching videos like this really gives me that fire and belief to go out an tackle my goals again...THANK YOU and Congrats again on an amazing race!
Way to stay in the fight! Anyone can look at a time on a board and judge if there was a success or failure. You didn’t fail, you learned about yourself and your grit to push through. You showed so much heart in this race that will inspire many. Great work! Hope to see you on race day down the line. Keep your head up!
Nico, you are one of the guys I’ve watched the longest. I’m a college runner who just finished a marathon. I shot for sub-4 hours and ran a 3:49:00. I long to qualify for one of the majors someday.
You are an inspiration but more importantly a friend thanks to your openness to sharing the struggles and tears. THANK YOU!!!
This is the realest thing. Man, so proud of you in so many ways. My favorite film of yours hands down. The realizations you had in this attempt are some of the most beautiful in this sport. There is not a single doubt in my mind that you'll continue to pursue your goals and find new times along the way.
I sobbed through the end of this video for so many reasons. Thank you for making these videos. As an old guy trying to run again, I honor the emotional authenticity of a young guy. Thank you for every video you have made. I’m amazed and inspired.
You cross the finish line, you’re victorious. Congratulations on ALL your victories and thanks for the videos. They’re well done with practical, inspiring information and they’re entertaining. More than all this though you capture the true spirit running. Stay out there!
nico you are truly so inspiring this video was beautiful to watch, you are seriously changing lives with the content u put out there
Your gonna go far with your amazing impact and inspiration you have on people. You are gonna be an amazing runner more than you ALREADY are. Keep inspiring people and keep running and ALWAYS. ALWAYS. Go one more nico
Nico You’re effort and drive for running is far beyond the personal goals you set, but for the incredible inspiration you give to others in their running journey.
Nico, I'm proud of you man. You inspired me to really get into running and helped me sign up for my first half marathon in Nashville, just a couple of weeks ago. I finished that race, and I don't plan to stop running anytime soon. Keep up the good work and thank you for everything!
Head up high Nico! You did amazing! Thanks for inspiring me to run my first marathon in august. This week i ran 60kms and thats because of the videos you put out. Thank you for inspiring me and so many others!
No matter what, you kept going and that what's important. Never walk away from what you want to achieve .And, after watching this I will put on my shoes and go for my first run in two years.
I just ran my first 1/2 marathon last weekend and I am so proud of myself. Love your videos for inspiration - and this one certainly delivers that!!! You’re amazing!!
One of the best marathon videos I’ve ever watched! The emotions were next level on my side, I appreciate the accurate portrayal of a marathon fight.
Came across this vid after the 2024 Chicago marathon one and it took me back to a very similar situation I found myself in. Not hitting your goal is definitely frustrating but you gotta put things into perspective. You have to be proud about the effort and dedication that went in, there’s always another shot at it!
What a race Nico… truly inspirational. The emotion and the passion, we all can feel it in this video. 2:52 is an INCREDIBLE ACHIEVEMENT. CONGRATULATIONS
Watching from Boston (my mom is a crossfitter, former Ironman and marathoner) This video made me cry at the end, you put your all into this run and it was an incredible journey to follow throughout this series! You’re not only an amazing athlete but goodness your video work strikes a chord! Gorgeous b roll and storytelling! ❤ Kudos Nico!
Seeing everyone so stoked to meet and greet with you after the race was a magical moment. Great vid man.
Eugene was a race I had set a daunting goal for and came up painfully short as well. Thank you for putting words to similar feelings I’ve been having about my own experience. Keep using your platform, Nico! Grateful.
Impossible not to cry, that feeling full of burning work behind those 2:52, Thank you Nico, for sharing and motivating us
The emotion was raw. You laid it out bare, Nico. Big props. The support from other runners at the end was heart warming. You've inspired so many with your journey.
Your an inspiration Nico. Your journey has been so inspiring to me. Even though you didn't achieve your goal your resilience and determination to finish show that failure is only a stepping stone on the path to success. Keep pushing forward, you are destined for greatness! You'll smash 2:50 in the future !
BRO!!!! The level of quality of this video is insane!!!! Dude I love your content and your videos. I love how you want to inspire others to run. I know that running has changed my life and I am grateful for you
Literal chills went through me as you crossed that finish line Nico. You are such an inspiration and don’t ever think that your videos don’t inspire or motivate people because they DO. they’ve inspired me to keep going with track and my own running journey, and i’m sure that goes for SO many more people who see your hard work. Don’t beat yourself up about this marathon, this is one out of so many more to come and your goal is still out there for you to chase and achieve! Keep doing what you do because you are LOVED and a blessing to so many people out there!
THANK YOU for all your videos and the hard work, emotions, motivation, and support you convey just through a screen!
YOU are truly AMAZING, God bless.
❤
You are my favorite bpn athlete. I really admire the raw thoughts & emotions you put into your videos. Truly inspiring. I’m currently training for my first half marathon in June. Your videos help me remember not every run is sunshine and rainbows. But what’s important is to give it the best you have in those moments regardless. Keep up the great work and keep working hard. You will reach your goals with faith and patience 🙏🏽
Congratulations!!! I am so proud of you for pushing your body to its limits. You are a role model for many including myself and you have helped me to run my first half marathon at the age of 14. ❤
Absolute legend the work you put in day by day never gets unnoticed. Every run it’s you vs you. Good job big dawg.
Nico, thank you for inspiring me through this journey! You have truly changed my perspective of life with running! It felt like just yesterday you started your 2:50 prep, and you have come so far! You crushed Eugene and you have impacted my life and many others way more than you know! Thank you so much!!!
Nico. Wow. This is one of the most powerful things I’ve ever watched. I’m in tears. I just started running this year. I have a 5k coming up and this inspired me to keep going and get better and better at running. Great job. Thank you for sharing these raw emotions with us
Well done Nico. You’re right about being proud, you had an amazing race.
It’s when you make the choice to keep going that you understand who you really are. ❤️🔥
I had a similar experience in my last marathon in Rome. It was really hard, but I’m so proud.
Thank you for your inspiring videos!!
From Italy 😎
Nico you have inspired me to work harder I'm my workouts and all of my training and taught me that you can't let one bad race define who you are but to treat it as a lesson for the future and that it's not about a time at the end of the day but what you had put in that day and how hard you have tried and I will always let that give me the power to give everything my all even when my brain/ body tells me to stop. You will always inspire me to work my hardest even on my worst days and for that I am truly grateful!! Much love 🙂❤️
A beautiful, raw and powerful video, Nico.
I had a similar experience with my first marathan recently.
Broke down when I realized I finished with a 2:56 marathon which wouldn't clear me of the cut off time for Boston.
Im glad you were able to take some positives out of the experience, but also let yourself feel the grief of not hitting your goals. You'll come back even stronger and hungrier. Keep grinding, brother.🫡
With tears in my eyes, this gets me so fired up to start my training block for Twin Cities Marathon on Monday. Thank you Nico. You truly are an inspiration to a lot. Keep crushing it my guy.
Seriously man….appreciate your vulnerability, and this has inspired me even more. I missed my half marathon goal on the same day you raced your marathon….we keep going. On to the next race.
Very motivational! Appreciate your vulnerability showing the true side of the nerves many of us feel before a big race even when the training has been dialed in. Also appreciate you showing that although you didn’t reach your A goal, how proud you were of yourself for giving it your all and finishing. You have inspired many of us to push and reach what we may think is unattainable. 2:50 WILL happen next. Way to grind!!!
I am so inspired by you and your dedication and I know that you will break 2:50 next marathon. I just hope that you never give up and keep on making new goal for yourself because that is just awesome. Good job Nico.
Just realized and remembered after watching this video, that all along, I got to know you through your short videos and clips. By watching this video, I've been re-acquainted with a person that is much more relatable, much more human, much more than just a person in a RUclips Short. Thank you for your effort in pursuing your goal and displaying it on screen. Congratulations on inspiring 344K subscribers and many more viewers around the world and keep shooting for the stars!
This is so much better than all out success. This is a phenomenal video, thanks for all the honesty and true moments. I ran a 2:49:54 in Rotterdam recently and couldn’t believe I made it with 6 seconds to spare. Let’s go, you did amazing man. You can be INCREDIBLY proud of yourself.
It’s all about the journey.
Bro ! I love how Raw and real this video is cause thatss exactly how i feel running every race, the thoughts are so insane!
how did i cry when you crossed the finish line!??? this is a brilliant video and freaking well done on that smashing time!!!!!
this is so beautiful nico, i genuinely face those same nerves every workout. I’m aiming for a sub 3:30 marathon in january, you give me lots of hope
That ending got me tearing up fr you truly captured what a crazy feat a marathon really is. Even inspired me a few weeks ago to start running outdoors more not just in the gym and it's kinda fun ngl. Congrats Nico
This is one of the best RUclips productions I’ve ever seen. Way to go bro, you inspire everyone with the rawness and wisdom you share. What a great kid.
I’ve been struggling with running due to hamstring injuries and haven’t been able to run for the past three months. It’s been tough, but your content has really helped keep my spirits up and reminded me why I love running in the first place. Your advice and positive attitude have been invaluable as I work on my recovery.
Nico you’re an inspiration to myself and countless others, helping us push past our perceived limits. Thank you for sharing your videos (which keep getting better in quality as well)!
Nico! Dude!!! Huge fan of yours & a big advocate of your videos. Truth be told I always look forward to watching your new content before my runs in the AM. Also you’re a huge reason why I run. I know it’s a bummer that you didn’t hit the 2:50 goal that you aimed for, but truth be told you still won & accomplished the race. You’re a better person cause you saw it through training session after training session. Lastly, my guy despite the outcome, you still left it all out there. Keep your head up & smile through it all. We’re all rooting for you in everything that you do.
Thanks for the high-quality video. Your videos have inspired me many months ago to continue running. You are a gem to the running community. Especially this video about the importance of continuing and finding joy in running despite not reaching a number target, we can probably all relate to.
Congrats Nico! Even if you didn’t hit the initial goal, I can tell you that the end result is a lesson that a lot of us need. Personally, last year I ran my first half and I missed my goal time by seconds. At first it really bugged me but now I can see that the fact that I even completed the race was a huge deal. This year I’m training to beat my previous time and your content is so incredible helpful. Thank you for your vulnerability and honesty throughout your training journeys. Can’t wait to see what’s next. Lots of love and support from Guatemala! 🇬🇹🎉
idk why i came across this video again but im glad i did
eugene will always have a placed engraved in my heart, i ran my first marathon there last year then for charity at the Chicago Marathon. i actually got to speak to you at the BPN shakeout run, keep up the great videos and hard work
