    The light bulb trick saved me hours of diag time... just to lose it all replacing the starter. Thank you for the help!

    I ended up using a couple guitar picks on either side of the relay. Then I used needle nose locking pliers to back out the relay. I gripped it from the top and bottom very carefully. Once I got the relay on the same plane as (or slightly past) the two tabs, I removed the two guitar picks and finished backing out the relay. I did it carefully, but it did cause some slight marring on the relay plastic shell. Not much though. Tested relay after removing it and it worked perfectly. Narrowing it down to a starter replacement (such fun). Thanks for the video.

    My car won't start. No click. No attempt to crank. Luckily i have a manual so i was able to push start it to get it home. Battery and alternator seem fine.
    I pulled the fuse in the video and placed a piece of wire into the two sockets. I can't be sure how well they were in there or how good of a connection they were making. However I got a click and an attempt to crank for 1 second before it stopped again. i swapped the fuse next to it to test and still nothing.
    What do i make of that click and slight crank? Still a bad starter and maybe bypassing the relays gave it extra juice for that weak attempt to crank?

    Great and helpful video! Just one question, what kind of bulb is that and where can they be found? So I can try to test if power is getting to the relay or not.

    Hey Lehew Tech, great video. Just so happens I've got a 2004 CRV not starting (starter not turning over) with full battery charge and starting circuit fuse good. Replaced starter, and it worked - for like 2 starts. Replaced starter relay, no dice. Replaced clutch safety switch (which was bad btw), still nothing. Any suggestions? Would you mind shooting me that wiring diagram as well?

    • @LehewTech
      @LehewTech  4 года назад +1

      I have seen a lot of remanufactured starters fail out of the box. I would check to see if the starter is receiving positive voltage when you are turning the key to the start position.

    • @LehewTech
      @LehewTech  4 года назад +3

      Also, two pins @ the starter relay get energized by the ignition switch when the key is turned to the start position. If you arent seeing power at pins 2+4 of the starter relay when the key is turned then it's likely that your ignition switch is bad. Here is a video of how to change that switch: ruclips.net/video/eFEkzamqIh4/видео.html

    5:18 shorting 2 large 1/4" wide slots will bypass the starter INHIBITOR relay allowing power to go from the ignition switch "crank" terminal directly to starter solenoid (so the engine can be started in gear (AT) or without stepping on the clutch (MT)

      The lightbulb and piece of wire did not work. What does that mean?

    • @mkrp4
      @mkrp4 Год назад +1

      @@KateWilliams-jg6hi if you placed the light bulb between 1/4" wide slots and it is not working you either have either defective starter or no power is coming to the base of relay
      If you placed bulb between 3/16" wide slots , the neutral safety switch is out of adjustment

      @@mkrp4 I replaced the starter relay and tried to remove the NSS, but got tired. Next day I decided to push it in neutral to another parking spot. All of the dashboard lights started dancing, so I tried to crank it and it tried to turn over but was weak. I had my battery checked already, but I hooked up the jump box and voila!! Thanks again.😊

    • @mkrp4

      Loose battery connections are often overlooked. Dancing needles and flickering lights point to loose terminals or bad battery (interestingly enough, often the headlights are staying brig during this time)

      At one time my 2005 CRV would crank but not fire. I would try to find a reason, it would sit, battery go dead. Then I'd charge the battery and try again, and every so often it would start right up and drive fine. But I learned not to shut it off until I was back home because on the next try it wouldn't start (for months). The problem turn out to be a head gasket leak that was getting one spark plug wet. Just that one wet plug would prevent the engine from firing. I had seen white stuff on that plug but didn't know what caused it. A cheap tube of radiator stop-leak and new plugs fixed it permanently.
