Jesse - Just want to say thank you for this video. I have used this board a couple dozen times over the past ~3 years... I wish I had seen this video when you first posted it. I just learned more in 15 minutes than I did over dozens of hours of working it without instruction! Thank you!
I have a zoom L-12 and this was useful for me. Very well explained. Some features are different but was explained in a way that made me understand so I can better use my device. Thank you

This was probably best introduction to this product. Please make a deep dive into the other features and overdub. 👌🔥
Thanks for the feedback! There are a handful of features that I want to get into and I will in a future video. The response on this one has been really positive and I appreciate it. More to come!

@@JJKoester fantastic work you are doing with these videos. Congrats. Keep them coming. U just got a new subscriber 💪👨🏻🚀
Thanks for the comment! There's heaps more to get into (deeper menus, back panel, tablet and PC connectivity...). It's really a monster of features and functionality.
Hey Jesse! Great video. It would be great if you might show us how to do virtual sound checks with this mixer in a live setting...there doesn't seem to be anything about that topic. Cheers!
Just bought this rig this week. Long time player but a newbie to the tech side and essentially taking over the engineering for our aspiring band. I and am super excited that this has 6 individual outs so all my band members(we each have our own IEM transmitters and receivers) can have our own wireless mix output for rehearsals and gigs, and still use the main outs for my powered Mackies/PA. Great basic tutorial JJ, also Subscribed, and I too anxiously await the follow up video.
As ex user of Analog and new comer to Digital Mixer, this L Series was created as sidekick/replacement for Analog mixer with internal Multitrack Recorder. I was using Behringer X2442USB and using XR18 as my main mixer at this time. L series comes as hybrid solution for me. Great video...
Yes, useful - thanks! Good flow and overview. I haven’t used a digital mixer before, only analog. Today I am doing sound setup for a new band that just bought an L-20 and this video was quite helpful. I’ll be good to go after playing with it a bit. The biggest problem I now have is that after seeing what the L-20 can do I want one 😊
Hi Jesse this is very useful! Thank you for sharing it was well put together covered the basics in an interesting and useful way. Also you style is pleasant, engaging and easy to listen to. Continue doing good work !!
Was surveying on mixers and stumble your video. Great explanation. What I wanted to know was if this mixer is usable without any computers, or tablet connected and how to EQ each channel as the knobs for each channel is only 2. You answer it well and I might just get this. Thank you
You are totally professional! Your presentation is the best I’ve seen on RUclips. More informative, much more than even Zoom! Please produce more content on the L-20. Thanks so MUCH!❤🎃
We've been using this board more and more and we're excited to be creating new content around Zoom products in our pipeline. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Excellent, excellent video. This is very clear and very useful. I used to own a Zoom L-12 and I am thinking of upgrading, We used the L-12 for silent band practice (with separate headphone mixes) and recording and it worked perfectly for that but we were too many musicians... Thanks much!
Had the L20 for a month . Once you get used to the format it is fantastic for the money . The sounds overall are superior to the R16 . Don't regret buying it all .
Excellent initial demo. I subscribed to your channel and will follow closely. I also have the Livetrack L20. My only regret is that, like the Tascam Model 24, it doesn't have all the buttons on one strip. I advise you to suggest to the Zoom manager that he think about it. We already know it would be more expensive. But I don't mind paying more. Congratulations on your work. I love it.
We haven't done iPad yet but we have done computer connectivity. You can find that here: ruclips.net/video/RgKRr_pj__M/видео.html Maybe it's time to do that iPad one...
We love it in rehearsal! Having isolated audio tracks means that if something goes surprisingly right, we're able to do something of a mix and release it. It's not 100% set-it-and-forget-it, but it's the closest I've ever seen with that level of functionality. Thanks for watching!
More coming, for sure! We're going into a heavy cycle of live music production and we'll be covering everything we learn from that. Hopefully it helps your workflow as well.
Very well presented Jeff. (I know it was well presented, because I almost understood it. Well, parts of it!). I have an older Presonus 16.4.2, which of course was outdated by the AOI model almost immediately after I purchased it. A short time later they eliminated the Firewire input to standard computers/laptops. Story of my life. So I'm looking into upgrading and this model was introduced to me yesterday by a friend. Your video is quite clear and concise and I just wanted to thank you for your excellent presentation. "Thank you!"
I have an older Yamaha analog mixer that has issues and a full computer DAW with an ADAT 20/20 audio interface. I could basically do all you are showing with that combination BUT it wouldn't be so great or convenient for mixing and outputting sound of a live band. I have been looking for a reasonably priced new mixer and this unit appears to do everything I could need - live sound reinforcement, easy to set up recording if needed, play back audio backing tracks and also can act as a digital audio interface. Awesome and really great presentation. I may be buying one of these! Thank you
That was very very very helpful. Helped me make up my mind. On What kind of mixer I was gonna buy. Would that Zoom 12 or 20 would work with powerd speakers correct
Congratulations on your video, we have acquired it and it has been of great help to us, thank you very much, I want to tell you that I have had problems putting the effects on so that they can be heard in the headphones. @@garygoggin We haven't bench-marked it against the Scarlett. I'm thinking to do gear comparison videos like that in the future and will add that to the set of possible videos. The problem for me is that I grew up recording to tape and digital is so much cleaner and easier to work with that it's hard for me to get too concerned. My ear isn't trained enough to tell the difference between gear that sounds so much better than any and everything I used for the first half of my career. Great videos! Thanks so much. Several questions though. Any suggestions to get around the following drawbacks: 1. No Control room L/R out; 2. Can I bounce several tracks in stereo to the stereo tracks and create a submix? How? 3. Any way to apply dynamics, effects and eq to the final mix? 4. Can I set up auto punch in/out points? Thanks so much!
Great overview JJ. I can see that each monitor output can be switched from Speaker Mode/Mono to Headphone mode/Stereo. If you're in Headphone mode/Stereo, can you do a true stereo monitor mix? As in, I want one guitarist on the left, one on the right, vocalists panned as well? Or is it simply a mono mix coming out in stereo headphones where all instruments are coming down the middle?
Nicely done. The only thing that held me back from this or the l12 was how they did the phantom power assignments. If they did like the H6, I’d be on board.
Yeah, the phantom power implementation seems odd. I have to assume it was a cost-cutting measure as I can't think of any engineering reason they couldn't do it track-by-track instead of block-by-block.
have you tried to use the stage monitor for that headphone output? . if yes, please share your experience, if not, do you have any option to use that as an Aux output for my powered speaker, I can't get a clean tone, I'm using zoom L8. .lastly what wire is preferably to use to connect to the powered speaker. thank you mate.
can i have more than one phantom power mic in a group ? I.E Two phantom power mics on 1-4 or 5-8 or 9-12 , 13-16. Will that one red button handle phantom for more than one device, or should i separate the mics and put one on a different group?
Thank you very much for the review, very complete. Please help me with a question, I have this sound mixer but I have not been able to make an external metronome, for example, connected to lines 19/20 (stereo) only listen to it through the headphones or monitors (A-F) and that it does not come out along the amplification lines (L-R). Only for musicians to listen to. I do not want to use the mixer's internal metronome. I would appreciate if you could help me clarify this concern.
Hey bud. Love your videos!!! I just purchased the L20. I was using the L12 before with no issues. I’m having two problems. 1. I can only record in audio interface mode but I’m not using a computer. When I try to set the back mode switch to card reader it says Check! Change mode and restart. I’ve been stuck with no success, restarting etc. I formatted the SD card that worked with the L12 to start fresh. Any suggestions? Second problem is I’m not hearing any effects on my vocal mic.
I think I would’ve liked the tutorial better if you put the camera directly above the board looking down. You have it at a slant and you really can’t see the functionality. Great video, just needs to be tweaked a bit. Thanks for your efforts.
Thanks J. J. Really great tutorial video. I'm still unsure which digital mixing console I will purchase for my home studio. But this video has made me a lot more excited about the L-20. It is a pity that it does not have a DAW control (Mackie or HUI), but this can be solved by purchasing a separate DAW controller.
Thanks for the comment! Overall, I'm happy with the L-20. We just made a video about interfacing the board with a DAW (in the video, I used Logic) and there's more good news than bad when doing that. That said, this is true prosumer gear and it does a lot but there are a small handful of things it just doesn't do. Do you have a website or something where I can hear what you're working on? Cheers!

Hello. Thanks for the great review of the remote. Please help me solve a technical problem. I can't find information anywhere on the internet. Is it possible to use the faders in the monitor line as a "post" on it? That is, can I simultaneously smoothly change the volume in the general line and monitor, without moving between "layers".
Yup it helped and may have veered me towards this mixer as I am kind of moving backwards from a digital mixer (Soundcraft Ui24) to an analog one as I run sound from the stage while I play keyboards…need knobs not menues and screens
If you end up working on one of these, I'd love to hear what you do with it. Please leave a link if you end up putting your work out on youtube. Also, I'd be happy to hear your thoughts on the gear's hybrid digital/analog approach to controls. Also also, if you're in LA, we do rent our board out and that could be a good way to get your hands on it for a weekend.
thanks!... just got an L20 & doing theory & manual before getting into the studio... it seems like a very versatile & understandable unit... im still a bit fuzzy on setting up 6 different monitor mixes... for instance if fader mode A is selected you can set up the entire board to feed that channel?... & then save it to scene 1 say?... & then every time you punch up scene 1 all those settings are remembered?... a little more about how exactly to do multiple monitor mixes would be great for a future tutorial... thanks again!

thanks!... just got an L20 & doing theory & manual before getting into the studio... it seems like a very versatile & understandable unit... im still a bit fuzzy on setting up 6 different monitor mixes... for instance if fader mode A is selected you can set up the entire board to feed that channel?... & then save it to scene 1 say?... & then every time you punch up scene 1 all those settings are remembered?... a little more about how exactly to do multiple monitor mixes would be great for a future tutorial... thanks again!
I second this request! Also, does the L-20 require an SD card to save scenes?
Thank you!❤
