      Does the zoom really only have 4 outs when used as a usb interface? The specs sheet “22-in/4-out USB audio interface”

    It's not often mentioned but the Model 24 can essentially function as an inline console. it's able to process tape, or DAW, returns on the same channel as the input. It's the only board in this price range with that functionality, making it rather special.

    I also have Livetrack L20. My only negative point is that, like the Tascam Model 24, Zoom doesn't have all the buttons on a strip. You can suggest a Zoom manager to study this possibility. I think it would be gold on blue. We know it would be more expensive. But I don't mind paying more. I love your presentation. Good job.

    A solid round-up of the features but probably worth mentioning the $300 difference between the Zoom and the Korg/Tascam. The fact that the Zoom is even in the conversation at that much cheaper price is astonishing. Of course, money in the pocket won’t compensate for a must-have feature that is missing, but still worth mentioning I think. :)

      You can. I have the Zoom LiveTrak L-20. If you record just a stereo mix to the SD, the EQ and effects are recorded. If you record separate tracks on the SD, you can do your mixdown in the unit and use all the EQ and effects in the mixdown. If you're doing your mixdown in a DAW, you'll want to have the tracks dry so you can add the correct amount of EQ and effects in the context of the mix.

      Do this by holding the farthest left function button and exit button at the same time, and then turning the unit on while holding those buttons
      If that doesn't work I would try different cables out of the output giving them problems and if neither of those suggestions fix it you may need to get it to a repairer

    i'm still searching for something that doesn't exist, apparently. Currently working with two Alesis 1622 (the early Mackies) still very good in versatile inputs and outputs, routing etc, and a Zoom R16 and Alesis iMultimix 8 for recording.
    What i like very much about two of the three mixers presented here is the possibility to record/play all tracks simultaneously using an SD card.
    But what i'm missing is the possibility of older mixers (like the Alesis) to have both effect sends and returns. On the modern mixers, you get digital effects that may not be quite what you wish, and when using your conventional effects, thinking especially about delay and reverb you have to use some channels of the mixer for the effect return.
    Does anyone have similar or maybe quite different or fresh ideas about that?

      Yes you can easily save 9 'Scenes' (Mixes). & if you use the Ipad L-20 Control app you don't have to touch the physical slider at all. With the Ipad they act as virtual motorised faders on the screen. It's great!

    • @deltics735
      @deltics735 3 месяца назад

      I have the L12 rather than the L20 but believe they work in the same way in this respect.
      You are correct that the faders do not “change back” in the sense of physically moving. However, each scene memory does save the positions of each fader and these are applied when a scene is applied.
      When a scene is recalled, the LED’s adjacent to each fader illuminate to show the saved fader position in that scene. Moving a fader will not affect the level on that channel until the fader has been returned to the recalled position (what I believe is called a “pick-up” mode, in that the fader must first “pick-up” it’s previous setting before it will affect the current level).

    • @sub-jec-tiv
      @sub-jec-tiv Год назад

      They’re all going to do the job, but the Tascam and Korg are easiest to use because the Zoom you have to select a track to edit things the Tascam and Korg have dedicated pots for on each channel. The Zoom has a much more flexible headphone routing setup though. I have a Zoom L8 and my PC can’t use it, the ASIO driver doesn’t work. Works fine with Mac. If i were you i’d go for the Tascam or Zoom, because the Korg doesn’t record to card. With Tascam and Zoom you can just record your whole gig to SD card right on the mixer, no computer necessary. Then you just kick those individual multitrack channels out to Reaper and mix from there.
      If you’re going to bring your computer anyway, any of these will work. The biggest difference is going to be how they handle phantom power for microphones, so that might be one way to decide. The Tascam and the Korg have only phantom power fully on or fully off. The Zoom allows 4 different groups with different phantom power settings.

    Hello I recently tested a Dynacord cms 1000-3 mixer; in overall, it sounds rather good (as if the sounds was embellished both warm and crisp) BUT I didn't find the effect sections not as subtle (for example there is no high cut in some reverbs) and vocals tended to leak in low medium despite the low cut and voice filter. And I struggle to avoid feedbacks. Do you think that for example the Korg MW mixer can have the same solid sound than the Dynacord ?

      Hi ya, The korg mixer doesn't have eq for its effects however the programmable digital graphic EQ will do better at removing feedback over the fixed 11 bands that the Dynacord has. The EQs on the Korg are also rock solid, however it does not function as a usb interface like the dynacord does (dynacord has 4 channels, the Korg only has 2). That being said the Korg would sit in the same ballpark as the dynacord in terms of sound quality

      @@Noisegate Woav Thank you very much for your accurate answers !! Concerning the video subject, apparently, it would seem that every model delivers the same quality concerning quality preamps, large headroom outputs... even if , for instance with Korg, the advertised peter Watts collaboration would make consider that the korg has a "superior" sound (?). Thank you very much again

    Zoom L-20 records to chip in multitrack, the others don't. Multi track to computer via USB is good on all three, but Zoom has the multi track to chip so no computer is needed ! Being only recording multitrack via usb opens a bunch of driver, computer issues. Most Sound companies are not even up to the new chipsets even after a year so problems are us when using USB.

      What do you mean to chip. SD card? The Tascam will record to an SD card.

    The intro analog vs. digital is indeed an old debate and I think you just repeated an old prejudice that no longer applies to our modern times. Absolutely the most commercial produced music for streaming services is produced inside the box. Just to name Andrew Schoeps, who owns a beautiful rare Neve desk.
    The reason for selling the small hybrid mixer is absolutely not the quality of analog (I am an analog guy too, I love my Soundcraft) it is the pricepoint in conjunction with the clearly arranged and trusted operation. A fully digital soundcraft (e. g. a vista console) is way more expensive! Would you tell us these fully digital consoles sound worse than one of your three budet models?

    Hello, anyone can feel free to jump in here. If i had to choose one, my scenario would be live multi-track recording of gigs, to the SD Card so i don't have to bring my laptop and DAW with me, and then take the unit back to the studio for all post production mixing, EQ, compression, effects, and then mix down and mastering in my DAW. Does this make one product stand out above the others? Thanks in advance.

    Cannot believe Tascam didn't include a polarity switch. And people wonder why their mixes don't quite sound "professional"

      I agree but fortunately a simple barrel phase inverter can be inserted where needed to say one of the snare mics. I’m more concerned about trying to through a passive ribbon in when the rest of the mics are phantom powered.

    Lol for a mixer review your audio is appallingly bad. Whats with the buzzing, rumbling and noise? Its annoying.
