It's a trend I despise in modern football. I know some clubs are almost forced out of their historic stadiums (Goodison Park being a great example) but I for one can't stand the designs of a lot of modern stadiums. Just do renovations and expansions on existing ones. Real Madrid, Liverpool, Barcelona, etc have all done this in recent years and the end result has been almost universally praised

Football hasn't changed, it's the world that has changed. The digital age and social media has over-exposed and desensitized us to many things that nothing feels unique and special anymore. The reason why the past iconic football moments stick with us is because they happened during a time where there was no over-exposure.

2010 World Cup opening game will always be memorable to me. I’m Mexican, but live in the US, I watched the opening game at school during my 2nd period math class. My math teacher was into football & she already had the game playing when we got into class. Game kicked off at 8am and I had her class about 9:15am so we were able to watch the second half. Tshabala’s iconic goal & Rafa Marquez equalizing.
Now I am PE teacher and I did the same for my students during the last World Cup. I had the games playing on a tv as we did some “dancing” unit I am required to do, but I just had them face the TV and I played music. So it would look like they where doing something 😂 Hopefully that is also a nostalgic memory for those students.

I'm Tunisian and I remember that 2006 world cup in Germany like it was yesterday. I was 10 years old and I was watching the games with my father on our own TV with a bunch of neighbours and fringe gathered with us because we were among a few who had access to the world cup channels. I still get chills thinking about the 1st goal against Spain or the last minute free kick equaliser against Saudi Arabia. We did not do well in that turnament despite being African Cup Champions. Being from Italy, I can sorta understand why my fellow Italians look at the 2000s with nostalgia. Not only Italy was a constant contender for trophies, and even won a World Cup in 2006, but Serie A was seemed to be the best League in the World, and pretty much every team had its stars.
You had a team like Brescia having the likes of Baggio, Pirlo, Toni and Guardiola, and still be facing relegation every year. Lecce was also wandering in the lower parts of the League and still had two great Uruguay internationals like Chevanton and Giacomazzi.
Atalanta wasn't as good as it is right now and still its captain Doni managed to make it into a national team with Del Piero, Vieri, Inzaghi and Totti up front.
There were lots of legends, in every single Serie A team.
However, that should not diminish current Serie A.
"Nowadays, only Juventus, Inter and Milan win the Scudetto", but so was in the 90s and 2000s, with just a few exceptions (Roma and Lazio back then, Napoli today)
"We were full of international stars" but there are still great players who are key for their national teams (I mean, Lautaro Martinez just won Argentina the Copa America, and he plays in Serie A)
Fine, 20 years ago, it was a great time to be an Italian football fan, but that doesn't mean everything is awful nowadays. Not every generation gets to witness 7 teams competing for the title: you really think the Premier League *always* had the Big 6 competing? Enjoy what you have, and then good things will come

Peak el clasico, messi vs ronaldo, pep vs mourinho. Klopp’s Dortmund in the ucl final against rival Bayern Munich. The Madrid derby in the ucl final. Ramos and Drogba's last minute goal. Messi was mainly the player that followed and only him, I can recall some champions league games and the anthem specifically or the old champions league intros and sponsors during the ad break. Something I do remember very well was Messi’s goal vs Nigeria in 2018. I feel bad that I wasn’t as interested in football at the time because I ended up missing much of what the mid 2010’s had to offer. But maybe as a Barcelona fan it was best I didn’t have to experience the pain of corner taken quicken 😅. Moments in games, players, the differences in how the game is played now vs then, kits/clothing, boots, music, media, fifa, RUclips highlight montages with terrible audio.
That Nike Arsenal commercial is the cream of the crop, I adore it.
Subbed earlier this summer, love your stuff. Ive been away from the game for nearly a decade but Im getting back into it hard. I would love if you did a summer transfer/szn preview video. Love your passion for this beautiful game, thanks for everything

I’m an American(yeah I know boo), and I remember in the late 2000’s and early-mid 2010’s getting up at the ass crack of the morning to watch premier league matches on like Fox or USA network. I still remember the little jingle that played before the match day, shit when I was but a wee Bonnie lass my dad took me to a Pub in Orlando, FL called the Cricketer’s Arms to watch Premier League games and the 2006 World Cup matches, we ate fish and chips and bangers and mash.
One time my dad might some folks from Liverpool who were there to watch some matches while they were on vacation, he asked them who they cheered for and they said Everton, so my dad cheered with them for the Everton game that way on that day.
And I remember the absolute class that was on display because I have always been a United fan since my dad was a United fan, either my mom or dad used to have a Man Utd blazer back in the day.
Just watching Rooney, Berbatov, Scholes, Giggs, Van Der Sarr in goal, Tevez, Van Persie, Nani, Park Ji-sung.
The 2010 World Cup, the USMNT with Landon Donovan, Taylor Tewellman, Clint Dempsey, Wondolowski, that 2014 squad that took Belgium to extra time.
The USWNT’s absolute dominance and rivalry with Japan, Homare Sawa vs Abby Wambach. I even went to a Boston Breakers game as a kid.
You don’t know what it was like being an American kid who actually liked Soccer(yes I know it’s Football, but Football here is NFL and College Ball here), it has such a stigma, kids called it soft despite the same flopping you’d get in Basketball and American Football games for PI penalties.
But Fuck Man, I love the sport, it’s still my favorite.
In 2016 I went to a New England Revolution vs. Orlando City match, the atmosphere was the best for any game I’ve ever been to, I saw a diverse group of people cheering their sides on, the drums, the chanting, euphoria every time a goal was scored, got to see Jermaine Jones, Lee Nguyen, and Kakà.
Say what you want about MLS but it’s growing and the fan bases are just as passionate as what you’d get in Europe and Latin America.
I’ll never forget the memories I have around the sport.

Football is such a beautifull thing. My most precious memorie if i may call it that, was back i idk what year of 2000s, but i was at the game which brought Holstein Kiel to the 2.Bundesliga. My dad was a massive fan, because he grew up there and my grandpa also used to be their manager. We went to the game, but i was a Dortmund fan since i could think, so i only owned Dortmund jerseys, but some random guy just gave me his Holstein Kiel scarf so i could feel more like a part off the crowd. That was so cool, and i still so many years later have this scarf. When Kiel won, everyone just ran on the pitch and hugged each other, and celebrated with the players, most magical moment of my childhood in terms of football. Its so damn beautifull to be part of this.

As a man from Hong Kong, I didn’t watched Football in my childhood or even teenage time because the local football league is not that popular in here. Then, I started becoming a football fan since 2022 world cup after watching the final. Then I watched back so many iconic football moments, and really felt sorry for not engaging football so much earlier in my life. The games nowadays are just not as dramatic as those in the past.

I don't really have much nostalgia with football as I didn't grow up watching football regularly until I was almost 20. That's when I got addicted to Torino FC because of a trip to the Superga Basilica two years earlier and when I chose a Serie A team it was like Turin is my favourite city in Italy so I just googled if there was a Torino FC and yeah after watching like 3 games of Toro I could never love another sports team the same way. It's been 8 years watching Torino and Serie A and there's not been much success other than Europa League playoffs round where UEFA juventus Mafia did us dirty and gave us Wolves as our opponent and then last year we were a Fiorentina win vs Olympiakos away from qualifying for the Conference League it would have been the best day of my sports life but hopefully this season we qualify for Europe. So really I enjoy and love football more today than ever, when I wake up here in Australia the morning after Torino play I watch the replay and then check the score at half time because I literally can't stand watching the second half and I'll probably annoy my wife with how stressed I get. But yeah I've watched some tournaments in the past but international football never gave me the same emotions as club football, it will never mean the same as Toro, SFT FVCG

Football (soccer since I’m American🦅🇺🇸 but we’ll use the real word for this) is such a powerful sport man. Growing up in the states (early 2000s) it definitely wasn’t the most popular sport amongst kids, but all my friends played it so I was around it. Eventually World Cup 2014 is on at the hotel I’m at for vacation, I watched every single game I could with my friend. Eventually a few years later I saw a Manchester United kit while I was at the store begged my parents to get it for me and here I am. Started following them religiously in 2016, now I watch every single football game I can get my hands on. I live for the content on scandalous clubs, nations biggest moments, the legendary UCL nights, and hearing the opinions of fans around the world. Grateful to see the progress my own country has made in the sport the last few years (we are nowhere close to a lot of countries but I’m proud of what we got). If anybody read this far I appreciate it, but as always live for the content vizeh.

Euro 2000 was the best Euros ever aswell. There was like Yougoslavia 3-0 Slovenia, Yougoslavia 3-4 Spain and France quarter final v Spain and semi against Portugal.
