You guys need to give Southgate the boot.
I am Austrian, so of course we don't get as far as the big teams, but before Rangnick we had a guy called Foda as manager. Same players in the national team. Foda and Rangnick even achieved he same results, Foda and our team went to the round of 16 and lost, so did Rangnick.
But holy hell what a difference the playstyle is. No one here cares that we lost essentially to ourselves against Turkey, we played phenomenal football. The boys played their hearts out with aggressive hooray football and we fucking loved it. Under Foda we played the most boring, bland, generic and "respectable" result focused, safe and secure football. There was no potential at all. Rangnick lost, sure, but damn did he give us the feeling that we could win the damn thing.
    Southgate is your Foda.

Despite not performing at their peak, England demonstrated strength by advancing far in the tournament. They were able to grind out results, come from behind, and notably improved in penalty shootouts. England boasts a strong squad with impactful bench players who made a difference in late-game situations and throughout the tournament. Ultimately, England was defeated by a superior team, with Spain proving to be the only side capable of halting England's somewhat average performance. Wouldn't say England blew it, Spain are just better, we did well just to get to the Final the way we played. We obviously have some very good players but post- World Cup we've had very patchy form, relegation from Nations League A should have been a sign, build up to Euros was poor, clearly we have tactical issues with the team, we've been bailed out by numerous moments of just clinical finishing and quality (and luck with the Penalty vs NL). I don't feel as disappointed this time, because of how we played. Spain would have looked at us and thought "Okay they got some good players but don't create a lot, we can take them, they will have their moments but we can win the game". I looked at Spain and I thought "I hope somehow England play better or we'll probably lose, or we need luck". We got neither.
Southgate inherited a different team, it made sense to play how we did back in 2018 and in 2020(21) we had specific plan with Kane dropping Deep, Sterling/Rashford/Saka running off him. Kalvin Phillips was in good form, and he made the Midfield get the ball up the pitch - Lot of people gave Southgate shit for the Phillips comments but this is fundamentally how he built the England team, when we build from the back to have Phillips be the person who gets us up the pitch - so what he is saying is true to him, people look at players in absolute terms but you need only watch us play our first 4 games and half of the Switzerland game to see how much we struggled to progress the ball from the back. So he has a team and he hasn't got a clue what to do with it, no surprised we only played well when we went to a back 3 and we somehow fit Bellingham/Foden/Saka/Kane into the system, even then we didn't stick to it vs Spain, sat back a lot.
Conclusion is either Southgate stays and he figures out what the fuck he does with this team over the next 2 years, or someone new comes in with some idea of getting the best out of the team. My guess is someone new will come in, like a Graham Potter, or Gerrard or Lampard. I Highly doubt Klopp would take over England, but if he did it'd be the best news I have had for a long time.
    Congrats to Spain. Deserving champions.

I think i saw a graphic on which country do european countries supports in Europe , only portugal and england supported the 3 lions the rest supported spain in this Euro final. Forget the "annoying england fan" narrative in every talk i had about this final with friends and people all said the same " i vomit from my eyes every time i watch them play" , Greece got shit for the way they played in 2004 because their man marking was so good opposing teams couldnt do anything and Greece had over 3.5xG in almost all their games but they were called "defensive" and "negative" while England in this Euro adopted the " meaningless side and back passes until the opponent makes a mistake of not covering the empty space" now that is boring and defensive . One team played so good in that Euro it made the games boring because the opposition couldnt do anything against them and the other doesnt let neither the opposition or themselves play , i used Greece 04 as an example but you get my point , England played like this with the easiest possible opponents while again as an example Greece had a group of Portugal/Spain/Russia and in the Knockouts the best French team of all time , Czechia's golden generation and Portugal as a host nation in the final.

I have 3 reasons why I dislike the English:
      1. Politics. I'm a loyal European and the rhetoric surrounding Brexit, turned me from someone who supported England even above my own country (yes, when England played against my country, I supported England) into someone who's like "I don't care who wins as long as it's not England"
      2. Their fans. Drunk, violent, arrogant, junkie hooligans shoving flares up their bums, breaking things and making a mess everywhere they go. Entitled and spoiled, they act like it's their God given right to win trophies instead of being modest and working hard for it, supporting their team through thick and thin and just being grateful for the progress they made, coming closer to actually winning.
      3. Their media. Their tabloids, which reflect their public opinion, are absolutely the worst newspapers in the world and they don't deserve their team winning, considering the abuse they hurl at their own players. They would take the credit and brag about the win for the next century, even though they're actually an obstacle in the way of that win.

As good as his results have been when he has a crunch game against a top side he takes no risks. When Palmer got the equaliser we should have continued to attack and press, instead we sat back and let Spain calm down and get their second.

My personal experience of the Anyone But England (ABE) position:
As a Scottish guy living in England throughout the '90s and '00s, I was rabidly anti-England football team (NOT rabidly anti-English, I must stress). The main reasons were:
    1) Tabloid hysteria, arrogance and xenophobia. The attitude of the tabloid press when there was a major tournament was just insane. It always felt like the attitude was 'right, this one's ours, all we need to do is turn up'. Before social media the tabloids had a huge influence on the population, and looking back some of the front pages and anti-whoever-England-are-playing articles are just unbelievable - not just whipping the nation into a frenzy, but downright offensive and racist to anyone not English with some of the sh*t they were writing.
    2) The fans. Obviously 'the English disease' was a bigger problem in the '80s, but there was still a very sizable hooligan problem in the '90s (particularly Rotterdam, Dublin and Marseille) and the '00s (Belgium, Germany). Even the non-hooligan fans could be unbearable during tournaments. Of course - not ALL England fans were terrible, there were lots of decent fans too, but England fans were pretty much the worst of the worst.
    3) The players. This was more a '00s thing than '90s, but the so-called 'Golden Generation' was generally very unlikeable. John Terry, Rio Ferdinand, Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard. Great players, sure, but it was very hard to like that team.
    4) 1966. The way England fans would bang on about '66 constantly was unbearable. So if they actually won something new the feeling was it would be even worse......
My feelings now? Well, I've got older and wiser I suppose. While I don't support England, and I admit would rather not see them win, I would say I don't really mind, and if they had won Euro 2020 or 2024, despite being mostly awful, then fair enough. I think the main reason is I no longer live in the UK so I am not in the middle of the media hysteria and flag waving. Also the fans, while there are still troublesome elements, are nowhere near as bad as they were. The players are more likeable too, and Southgate, for all his tactical failings, is a decent bloke at the end of the day. So basically I would say that my stance has softened somewhat.
And I think, although I can't speak for all Scotland fans, that the whole ABE is now more a bit of a jokey, self-deprecating rivalry. The flags you see outside Scottish house and pubs of any country playing England are done more in jest than a particularly rabid anti-England sentiment.

In Euro 2020 Italy beat: Austria, Belgium, Spain and England playing the final in London.
England beat: Germany, Ukraine, Denmark, playing 2 out of 3 matches at home.
And I would say Italy had a much harder group compared to England.
Saying that England should have won Euro 2020 is coping to an absurd level. For the way Italy played and the opponents they had, they absolutely deserve to win. Just like Spain 100% deserved to win this year.

      Side Notes:
1.Germany were at their worst period in Euro 2020. They were so close to be eliminated in the last moments against Hungary.
2.Belgium and Spain were one of the favorites to win the tournament at that time.
3.England's supposed opponents in Euro 2020 knockout stages would be Spain (in QF) and the Netherlands (in SF), which, on paper, those teams should be able to knock England out.

There are some England fans - like you - who I feel sorry for. People who just have a passion about football without excluding fans of other clubs / nations, looking down on them. But I am a bit surprised that you as such a reflective person don't really get why people don't want England to win.
There are thousands of English fans who just want it too much. I don't even want to mention the disastrous behaviour inside the host countries. No, just the overall attitude that comes across. "It's coming home" - like "it's ours, give it back, we deserve it more than you, it belongs to us". Always the same three songs - yeah, you don't wanna be taken home, we get it after we heard it ten thousands times. World War jokes - yes, haha, very funny after 80 years now. Every goal Scotland concedes is worth a party - guys, why do you even care, they are no competition for you in european football. England just always seems like the one guest at a party who drinks too much, screams at the host and the others and when you say "Okay, now it's annoying, I don't want you to win" , the answer is "Don't want to have it any other way, we against the world, we are the chosen country anyway".
I am German. You maybe can understand why I would be annoyed in particular. So many of you guys HATE us, especially in football. And all of the points above seem to get even worse when it's against Germans.

Gareth Southgate is like Graham Potter & the rest of managers where they're fine with league region tier or higher up bit in club league, but couldn't when they enter top class tier clubs & internationally (not helping the fact that his placement & tactics were like alienated with players' usual plays + favoritism of players' appearance)
I believe England got potential, especially now they have nice depth currently even for this tournament. They just need manager lead that's proven in real top tier, who know the players AND performance driven strategies & systems instead of either one. & England goal needs to be LIFTING TROPHY. Entering finals, surviving groups, qualify through stages, isn't enough anymore for them. & they cannot play the same ahh gameplay that they've been criminally doing, Spain has definitely should have knock some sense to them.
(eventhough I supported Spain for this since 2008, but Cole Palmer goal that time made me applaud, because that man, is criminally underused in this tournament for real, he only play like 2 games I think, but deng he was game changer in both, & thus yeah the manager expectations as mentioned)

Hey Vizeh love your work! I think the dislike of English National Football team in Poland dates back to 17th October 1973, and the match at Wembley which ended in a 1-1 draw between Poland and England causing Poland to qualify for the World Cup and England to miss out. The English Press and Pundits were very dismissive of the Polish National team, especially the keeper Jan Tomaszewski who was even called a clown by Brian Clough. This sort of arrogance from the English press caused Poland to see England as (sorta one way) rival. A lot of the younger lads don't see it that way and I knew a lot of youngsters growing up in Poland supporting England especially how many of them had fave PL teams :)

Cold Palmer was England's best player. But an analysis by the YT channel FourFourTwo broke down why England was so bad (this time around) and why they got better after the subs. The biggest problem was playing Kane up top. Kane-curse aside, he is arguably the best number 9 in World football, but his playstyle does not work with Bellingham, Saka, and Foden.
All 4 wanted the ball to feet, all 4 needed runners to pull the play to have space, and all 4 were passing side to side while on the pitch together because no one would stretch the defense. You see the shift when a player like Watkins, Toney, or Palmer comes on. Those 3 either make runs or dribble at defenders. Kane and Foden may have been "better players" but for the team England has, those two should've been dropped for Watkins/Toney and Palmer.

  • @Batch00
    @Batch00 Месяц назад

Sure, we got to the final and the team has been better under Southgate than previous managers, but this was off of the back of the players, not the manager's system. Basically every goal was a moment of brilliance from Bellingham, Saka etc.
