Just bought a sterling Adonis lighter on ebay (probably paid too much). When I got it, it had no spark. After watching your video, I was able to repair it myself! I also have a ronson crown lighter I've had for 20 years, but never able to use because I couldn't pull the wick up, but after watching your video on that, I think I'll tackle that also. Your videos are very helpful! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.

I was working on a Roland 300 flat ad lighter and I couldn’t for the life of me get it back together. Till I watched this video and it went back together right away. Thank you.

Hi! I just watched this to figure out the clutch spring orientation and location, and it helped a lot. Now the wheel spins with the mechanism, right up until the second a flint touches it (without even tightening up the spring). Then it stops spinning. I've got the flat of the clutch spring oriented correctly, and tried with the cut facing both right and left (just in case I misunderstood the first time). It happens in either orientation. If I'm understanding things, the clutch is either bent so it's not catching, or the teeth of the fire wheel are too worn (this seems less likely). Am I missing something, or do I just need to try bending my clutch a bit?
Or am I about to embark on a parts-finding quest?

hello I have been watching your table lighters videos and it is really interesting, I recently bought a ronson leona on ebay I cant wait to receive it haha
questions: since these were made in the times where asbestos was everywhere including zippo wicks, are ronson table lighters' wicks such as leona, queen anne etc also part asbestos? also since the flint springs have seen decades is there a replacement other than discontinued ronson parts that I could use in case?
thank you have a great evening from Québec Canada

You can get one from any clipper lighter or any lighter that you can replace the wheel on that is long enough. Or any flint lighter that is the same diameter, cheap see through ones or other disposable lighter. If longer you can just cut it slowly until it sparks perfect. I have a container full from sourcing from all disposable lighters or broken ones. Only $1 to $3 dollars or free for an empty one.

Hi man, thanks for your videos, found an old ronson at my grandmas home and have kept it as a momento. I’ve followed your videos far enough so that i’ve cleared the flint tube and put a new flint but it’s still not producing a spark. Do you think i need a new flint wheel?

Chances are the lighter was reassembled incorrectly after clearing the tube. Double check the orientation of the clutch spring.✌️

Super helpful videos! I'm currently trying to fix a vintage (no name) petrol table lighter but it seems to be missing the flint wheel + clutch. It looks like the flint wheel is easy to buy online but I'm having difficulty finding a clutch. Any recommendations or is there a way to DIY one? Thanks so much!

eBay repair kit or buy a non working one that has the same mechanism on ebay. You can get a used used in bad condition for $10 and just use the parts. Or buy a lot and get parts before selling them again or keep for decoration.

And keep in mind that a gas butane Veraflame lighter has the same exact mechanism. Theres no difference except a valve and gear around it (barely noticeable) and a refill valve instead of a hole on bottom.

I have one of these in new condition. The snuffing mechanism cap will not pop all the way up. Is that normal for a new lighter?

    • @DependableFlame
      @DependableFlame  Год назад

The old flint has likely degraded in the tube and has caused the mechanism to seize. You will need to disassemble the mechanism and deal with the obstruction as this video demonstrates. Let me know how it goes!✌️

The flint is an expendable that must be replaced often. The spring and screw come with the lighter.✌️

Align the flint screw and where the wheel meets the flint. If its at 90 degrees straight then it’s straight.

I always start watching your videos and then my adhd takes over and I just go for it while you’re talking in the background without paying attention. Much frustration is felt along the way but I always end up pulling it together. Really wish my brain was better at sitting through tutorial styled videos without having to immediately start trying to do the same thing myself 😂

Also makes me happy to see you using the same Pittsburg electronics screwdriver that I use - people online are always ragging at me tellin me “buy a Wiha set! Buy a Wiha set!” But for something as simple as these lighters I have never had a problem with twisting a bit. Only the torx drivers from pits are worthless the rest are absolutely fine
