  • #268. ART is THERAPY - The Journey to 100K Subscribers
In todays Resin Art video we go back to my first ever RUclips resin video and recreate the Fire Petri effect.
I also explain the channels journey and things that have been going on behind the scenes which are hard to talk about, things that held me back and really effected my ability to create resin art at times.
You guys have really pulled me out and pushed me away from dark times. At times, I didn't enjoy the resin art content I was creating, it was often just for the sake of creating content.
I began to love my job again and am more passionate than ever to keep pushing resin art in new directions, this is OUR JOURNEY more than ever now!
I'm hoping that by discussing these things, it may help others who are also struggling so please keep comments/replies kind and respectful, we are all different.x
You can now be a member of my channel which will give you access to comment badges and also wallpaper of my macro photography. You may need to save these to your device via a PC or screenshot and adjust the images.

Hi all, thanks so much again ❤. I will be doing a g.veaway very soon, I will keep you posted as to what it will be, I have to be careful how I do it as it can expose accounts to a lot of fraudulent people trying to trick followers into believing they have won.... I will update soon 😁 ❤x

Very glad you're still with us, Daniel. I left another comment, but we're all happy you're still here, and I'm so glad art has helped you so much. Well done for 18 months, I hope you continue.
Wanted to ask, do you know what happened to Myriam? She vanished and I never found out why.

Thank you for letting us in. I think you and your channel are amazing! I will always be here watching and supporting you both! I also adore the professor. Now, to truly celebrate the accomplishments one makes, you must learn and grow from the journey. Reflect. You are inspiring people to believe in themselves as you did. Through everything. We grow because of our bad and good experiences that happen to us in our lives. Throughout our many different journeys. Life is a journey that you mold it into your own. Always find the positive ..it is there. Sometimes, you need to look a little harder to find it when times are tough.❤❤❤

Thank you for being brave enough to show the struggle you have gone through in life. When it comes to social media, the focus is usually a message of how successful someone feels they are or wants others to
believe they are. You are indeed successful and you've worked hard to achieve what you have. By telling us the whole story instead of just a success story, it makes me feel that it's okay if the journey isn't always easier or smooth. You are a good example for us all and I wish you all the blessings in the world. Mad support to your family too. It's hard to see somebody struggle knowing you can't fix it for them. 💚 I'm glad it's working out for you and yours!

Daniel dear, I went from a very active 35 year old to a disabled, can’t do anything for myself 42 year old. Being a veteran I am used to being very independent and I find it so hard to cope with every single limitation that I now have. It makes me sick to my stomach to have to ask my girls (17,18) to help me shower. I found resin about 6 months ago and I have 4 channels now that I watch religiously and yours is one of them. I have made a few pieces and regardless of how they turn out I’m proud that I tried. I know I’m a new subscriber (2 months now) but I find your content uplifting and knowing that even people I look up to struggle but keeps fighting gives me hope that I can make the best of a craptastic situation. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us! Much love from Florida USA. ❤

It's wonderful to hear, and see!

Hi Daniel 🎉 congratulations, you are truly one of a kind. You have so much courage to share your journey so personally with all of us and as hard as that is you also shared another creation your flames, during that. Wow.... i admire you so much as I lost a sister-in-law I loved so dearly to alcohol, we thought we could help her but sadly no one could not even therapists, she passed a few years ago. So I know how hard you have fought to be here creating art for us and sharing your life too. Even on your hardest days, you did your very best to create magic in petri art. Congratulations on being sober that is an AMAZING effort indeed.
Congratulations to Mrs Cooper and your dear son. Sometimes hardship brings you closer and it shows how much you truly care for each other too.
Sharing your journey hopefully will help others know that they can do it too. Don't let nasty people steal your sunshine, just love the art you do and the goodness you have inside, we are all here to support you and appreciate all you do for us. You're an amazing ambassador in UV resin art petri effect. Never stop believing in yourself. Bless. 😊

Thank you Daniel for all your hard work and bringing us some awesome videos. Your videos helped me understand the resin better in a way I would have never thought to do. I am so glad you are working through your life's bumps and mental health. So many people do not. You are so correct in everyone has their own way of dealing with life issues and grief. I lost my dad 2 years ago to cancer as well. It has been hell. People don't understand when you close them out, heck usually the person going through grief doesn't understand that you are closing your self off. You are just trying to make it through minute by minute. I am so happy you have continued with your channel. Try not to read the negative comments or listen to others to much. Yes, I know it is hard but when you start listening to them you fall down the rabbit hole. I am glad for this video the most and getting to know you as a person a little more. Best of luck with your channel and your life and see ya on the next video. Rock on!!!!!

Wow, thank u so much for sharing a part of ur story. I believe it was my husband that showed me ur channel a few months back and every time i see them come across my feed i always try and watch them just for to the fact that ur experimenting and not just a "how to step by step" video. I dont see many creators experimenting so codoos to u.
As for ur story, im so touched and can relate on the mental health issues. I have recently been diagnosed with a life changing diagnosis ( on top of my 3 mental ilness diagnosis that i received a little over 20 years ago )and honestly the only thing that has help to pull me through trying to except it is art. Art has been my go to at every chance i get. If im not having to b responsible and working the lttle bit i do, then im home wanting to see where my heart wants to take me that day with art. When my husband and i got back together after many many years apart ( he is my teenage love ) he was very artsy himself and that has full blown rubbed off on me now. When u put two people who just really love to create any sort of art, most of the time u turn out with the most beautiful pieces ever. With his love he has brought me through the absolute lowest part of my life and was just here with me to hold my hand and let me know that hes always got my back, even at the darkest of dark times. having that kind of support truly us a blessing and i do not ever take ut for granted. Im so happy u have found a way and a community of people who can encourage and push u to do so much more. So much kove and respect for u to open urself up to be as vonerable as u were. Ur story has really touched my heart and now im thinking that somehow with as many hours as i spend on creating art, i need to take that next step and have the confidence of selling it. So so many people when they see any kind of art that either my husband or i do everyone has always said we need to sell our stuff. Hearing ur story has me thinking that mayb it is time to spread my wings and take that leap of faith and see where that journey can take me. Thank u ❤

UV resin art is my therapy! I have major depression disorder with anxiety. I worked in a public job all my life and woke up one day and said “I can’t do this anymore!” Checked myself into a mental health facility. I am also treatment resistant which means medication works for a while and then it doesn’t. I went through a couple of years trying to find my way back. First I retired and finally found the right doctor, therapist and God’s grace! I am “normal” again and loving my new craft♥️

Daniel, I do know the whole anxiety and depression I have struggled with it for the past 14 years. 14 years ago I had to struggle on what to do about my daughter.. let's see she was born with a rare heart condition. In April of 2010 I had to put her in the hospital because her heart was failing. So, long story short, I had to make a decision to leave her on life support or let her be with the angels. So everyday I feel as if I failed her. Which makes my anxiety start up. There are days I feel as if I should not get up out of bed. I want you to know this you can do it, or should I say continue do it. Love ❤️

I am proud of you. Not just for getting help, for maintaining, but for talking about it. I've been a crafter for most of my life but discovered resin about 12 yrs ago but kept making other items. About 6 years ago it became resin only. In 18 months time we lost my brother, grandmother and then my mother. Mom's been gone a year and a half now but I am still dealing with probate and all that comes with it. Since mom passed I've gotten to where I HAVE to craft daily. I did video therapy and once she made the comment about how we are always in the craft room. I quite honestly said "It's my happy place." We all have our struggles... and in many ways these craft videos are therapy for some of us. Because of you, Claire and Wendy I got the courage up to start my own channel. So thank you for being an inspiration for us all. Stay strong and we love you.

Thank you for sharing your story with us, Daniel. I will be celebrating 7 years clean and sober on June 18th of this year. Recovery is possible, and one of the things I've learned through recovery that is essential to it working is to have a purpose. Whether that be art, raising a family, having a career; whatever gives you a reason to keep going, that's what's important. Congratulations on 100k subscribers, but an even more heartfelt congratulations for making it through 18 months of sobriety. You are at the point where things should start getting easier, mentally.
Most people who have dealt with substance abuse and get clean go through a period called PAWS, Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome, which for most people experience for around 1 year to 18 months after getting clean. During this period, you body, particularly your brain, is going through chemical changes. Our bodies naturally produce "happy chemicals" such as serotonin, oxytocin, and dopamine. When we abuse substances, we are getting those "happy chemicals" through artificial means, and our brains stop making those chemicals naturally. When someone gets clean, they are no longer getting the synthetic effects, but the natural ones are still dormant. It's during this period where most people relapse, because you simply don't feel okay. But when we are able to give our bodies the time it needs to start working again, the results are incredible.
I thought I had lost the ability to feel anything...I didn't feel happy, I didn't feel sad, I just felt like I was lost, alone in limbo. But as you pointed out, none of us are alone. So many people suffer in silence, when we as human beings were not created to suffer. And it's because of people like you, who are willing to be vulnerable and share their story, that the rest of us feel and know that we're not alone. Silence is deadly, and apathy kills. Thank you for showing up, and speaking out. It means everything.

Thanks Daniel, I too have been suffering as an alcoholic and have been sober since September last year. I have also been reconnecting to my creative side in making things; leather, copper and resin jewellery for which I have gained a lot inspiration from your channel. I have learned to make my own silicon moulds so I can come up with shapes and designs that suit my style. Sometimes it feels like I am doing 'busy work' to take my mind off of my problems but, at the end you have a beautiful object to be proud of and you haven't been thinking of alcohol apart from inks.
Thanks once again for your story and keep on inventing for us.

I’ve seldom replied to any comments before but you have touched me beyond words. Thank you for your honesty. My life was similar and heartbreaking but I also found complicated ways to wellness that included creating the family I dreamed of and finding my passions through family ,farming and creating!! Family and creating being as necessary as air!! Using color in my art is my specialty and fiber has been my primary medium until 20 years ago and added glass fusing. Fabulous but too rigid! I needed the fluidity of the resin and then I discovered you! Your color sense is so familiar to me!! It makes me so happy and you were inspirational immediately! Thank you now more than ever! Your sharing your experiences touched me more than I have words and I’m feeling that also from many of the wonderful comments from your awesome fans and students!! I have been teaching fiber arts for many years on a voluntary basis and I operate much like you do. No elitism! Art and craft for self care and the joy of creating beauty and the sharing!! I’m hearing all of that in you😊! A million thanks! Also for sharing the emotional journey. Your words were more important than the resin creativity and it is awesome! Don’t apologize! All need to understand everyone’s journey so we will realize that we are not alone.

Grief sucks! I know there was more to your depression than the loss of your mom; but I lost a son to suicide, so I get it. I didn't turn to alcohol, my hubby did. But, crafting saved MY life. I bought a cricut, started there, and just kept moving. Now, I fear I have a craft supply hoarding issue. In fact, I will be ready for the apocolypse with craft supplies; if I'm not taken first. Hehehe. Thank you for sharing Daniel, I appreciate your heart. I am so proud of you kicking the alcohol habit! That's a tough one, but you kept on..... Great job !!

Hey Daniel, what you've just disclosed is incredibly brave, especially about the alcohol abuse. People do not understand that it's an illness, the same as any addiction. Listening to your story, I find so many similarities with my own and, as you did, I turned to art. In fact it literally saved my life. I had to give up work due to physical and mental illness, reaching rock bottom for me was 3 suicide attempts. I had an extremely abusive upbringing, add alcohol to all that and boom...the rocky road to ruin. Art has led me to a wonderful place and I've found my people. The love and support I've found within the art community (I'm now part of an art collective! Awesome, but I have to keep showing up too and sometimes, it's hard!) is still a wonder to me. You've been part of my journey also, you've made me braver to try new techniques, you've given me inspiration, the fact that you respond to my comments? It goes a long way to making me feel heard, when my whole life I've felt 'less than'. So, I'm not going to say poor you, I'm not going to say well done, I'm going to say thank you. You have made a huge impact on my own recovery. Sadly, not the bloody insomnia lol Keep on keeping on, much love, TB x EDIT: if you apologise once more I'm going to make you write a 500 hundred word essay on the word 'sorry'. Do not ever apologise again for who you are...I'll do it, I will!!! 😜

Everyone has struggles, some hardships are more difficult and some durations can last a lifetime. I use to teach pottery at a local community center long ago. I wanted to get back into it but before I could, I started to suffer from rheumatoid arthritis and Fibromyalgia. At first I slipped into depression thinking of all the things I use to do (pottery, deep sea fishing, gardening, camping etc..) And could no longer do. Then I realised focusing on that, just made the pain worse. Eventually I got some of the issues under control and looked for new things I could do and took up lapidary as my new hobby.
I'm going through 4 hand surgeries right now, so I'm trying some resin work and jewelry beading to keep my passion going. Your videos and experience are positive and your kindness in teaching and sharing knowledge is uplifting.

100 K! You DID it! 2:46 I always thought that was pretty dang amazing! 3:42 That’s a VERY LONG Wait! I’ve also been there with the mental hell and having to wait. (Not as long as you but longer than it should have been) 11:14. Art is what helped me get out of my horribly depressed state. I do love your work and want to try resin myself at some point. I love experimenting too. What happens if I combine these materials together and so on.

Sorry for the long delay in finishing watching. Had gotten news 4 minutes into watching, when I was told that a dear friend had just had a stroke, so I took a break for a few hours.
Dan, Dan! The "fun you", for me, IS the regular you, anxiety and all. 😊 Why? Because...it's YOU. I probably sound dumb saying that, but I do mean it. I prefer to see my friends for who they really are, "warts and all". Those "warts", quirks, different mannerisms are all indicative of the battles they are enduring or have fought through; the hell many have gone through. I just came out of a deep depression lasting at least 3-4 years, and it was ... horrid.
I honor you for stopping the drinking. That must have been SO hard! 👍💕😊 On a RUclips channel called "The Life Boat" run by Tommy and Johnny Scoville (brothers), he talks about how all addictions have their root in "lack of connection". He says that it is ONLY connection with others, especially who are also struggling, that helps stop the spiralling downward. That all addictions are just a way to deal with overwhelming pain. He's really something. His channel is this amazing network of supportive folks, who find victory every day through the solid friendships they have made - their connections.
You've done a similar thing, here. You've made connections with a group of peeps, many of whom have been there/done that/still struggling.
We get you, we accept you. *NO JUDGEMENT.* 💕👍❤🤗💕
Since we all live at a distance from your personal life, we SEE those ugly comments exactly for what they are: hate-filled jealousy, driven by overwhelming insecurity and their own pain *they have not dealt with.* Those hate comments have never been about you, _nor do they reflect on you or your character!_ It's about them and their own crap. I'm so glad you now know all this! 💕🤗
DANIEL, I would be thrilled if you made longer videos! 😅

Crafting is the only thing that is holding me together right now on my journey through the end of my life. If I didn’t have it I don’t know what I would do without. Except stare at walls. You have helped me laugh on rough days when all I want to do is hide. As someone who has suffered from complex ptsd all my life, therapy has been something that I have been involved with off and on when I need it. I was in it for a long while and then off. When I feel like I need some help again I go back in. Thanks for bringing beauty into my life and teaching me how to do it also.

Being in therapy since last year has been an incredible journey but im giving it my best ( still a long way to go though but it does help a lot). When I lost my mom in 2020 it hit me hard, she was a brilliantly woman but at the end she suffered from vascular dementia & skin cancer. I’ve dealt with it for about 5 years & it was so hard to watch how her mind got the best of her in the worst way. Art has been one of those avenues that has kept me a little on the sane side 😂😅 & keeps my mind busy while enjoying the process. Just wish I have my craft room finished though ..hahaha so I can start experimenting with resin for the 1st time. In the meantime, I’ll keep sketching up a storm & doing creative journaling. Keep up the good work!!!

Art is most definitely therapy! I believe that when people who have similar interests that congregate together start sharing, it's a wonderful healing experience for everyone. I have been in the middle of this type of therapy as an art teacher and more recently as a nail tech (lots of art goes on nails and also involves chatter) the therapy seems to go both ways. Everyone has a story and a journey. I think its really helpful when someone like yourself tells theirs. Well done, another great video . 😊❤
