    Yay, you got your new mold in! Dan, the reason the Petri effect has "evolved" as far as it has, is mainly because of *you* and your persistent experiments. 😊👍💕 You have shown us so many methods and different ingredients, it's become a struggle to decide WHICH one to do! 😊 I *still* haven't got round to using my typewriter correction fluid! Wow nice tutorial. Josie Lewis has been around a long time in the resin world, she’s famous for her paper art resin collages. I’m not sure I’ve seen her ink resin pieces.
    I can tell you where the resin ink fading came from, those who used Ranger alcohol Inks, years ago. No offense to Tim Holtz or if he’s changed the formula. They would fade on Yupo paper as well.
    I use Maribu alcohol ink, and Lets Resin inks. Never had a problem with fading.

    FYI …….
    Petri dish
    /ˈpɛtrɪ ˌdɪʃ,ˈpiːtrɪ ˌdɪʃ/
    noun
    a shallow, circular, transparent dish with a flat lid, used for the culture of microorganisms.
    This is the actual beginning of the so called Petri dish pours.
    The pours were originally done in a small flattish circular dish that is used in growing microorganisms in a pathology laboratory.
    However over time the actual Petri dish has been replaced, and is no longer the container that is used, but for some reason the name has continued to be used for pours most often using alcohol inks, that are manipulated to achieve interesting effects.

      @@trina2thfari kind of, anything thin and long will have a flex but should still feel hard, you shouldn't be able to push a finger nail into anything after say 1 week, most things chunky 24-48hrs.

    Can this be done with UV resin?

  • @lynntaylor6875

    I've been trying to achieve the ribbon swirl for over a year now and realize the sinker white must be a "sinker". I use Lets Resin and their alcohol inks and I still struggle. Would my room temperature have anything to do with it? Winters are long, cold and snowy here in Montana. Do you think a heating mat would help me create a swirl? I know the mat enables a faster cure but would it affect the stir? I'm unable to find answer and you're such a pro. Love, love your videos.

    • @daniel..cooper
      @daniel..cooper  Год назад

      Hi Lynn, temperature can play havoc with resin, a medium viscocity resin will change to a high in low temps. A heat mat will help but only use a low temp but I would also suggest giving your resin a warm bath before mixing, not too warm though as that can push a flash cure.

    Looks like I got the wrong resin? Was planning on a clear epoxy mixing in one single glitter color as a backing for a coaster. Will that affect it? Otherwise I'll probably have to return it.

    • @daniel..cooper

      @trina2thfari Scrape out as much as you can and use it first, I always have a mold at rhe side for any leftovers and it fills over time. Then let the rest harden but keep it all, you can hide dry resin in other pieces 😊

    Your art is amazing. I’m new to resin. Hope it’s ok to ask a few questions. 1. Is silicone release spray just regular silicone lubricant spray? And 2. I have everything I need except I’m having a hard time getting the let’s resin resin in Canada so I doubt I’ll be able to get your resin. Is it a low viscosity resin? Thank you.

    • @daniel..cooper
      @daniel..cooper  Год назад +1

      Hi, I'm sure it is but it's a very fine mist, not like wd40. The resin is a medium viscocity, there is a 1:1 brand called HXDZFX which I used when I first started resin which may be available there but I haven't used it in a long time.

    I was wondering how to get the bubbles out of the teeth of an herb grinder mold I've been trying so hard to cast for 6+ months. I've tried heat gun, heating mat, fishing and scooping them out, popping, different resins, even tried uv resin for just the teeth, different molds... but no success. Any tips?

    • @daniel..cooper
      @daniel..cooper  Год назад +1

      Hi, I haven't tried one yet but will be the same as a pyramid mold, a tooth pick straight to each tip will dislodge them but will be a time consuming task. A vacuum chamber may be the only fast way.

      @ericablankenship5763 have you tried half filling and tapping it hard? It may help, also, try warming your resin slightly just before pouring then tapping.
