- Retired broadcaster Charlie Bird, speaking with the aid of voice technology, has paid tribute to the 'incredible' Vicky Phelan as his Samaritan over the past year since his terminal motor neurone diagnosis.

That's really cool, he recorded his voice and words before his symptoms got worse. Poor Charlie a disease no one deserves. Stay strong.
I think it came from old reports
No, it’s a digital version of his own voice trained using his own speech. Sounds amazing. Marino software is the company that provided this, I think.
There's a documentary about how it was done. They ran loads of old reports through a computer program and in typing things out, it gives the result in his voice.

Poor Charlie....saw him once outside the Dail passing me....I thought he was a beautiful looking man so elegant in his long winter thick coat. He smiled and chatted to people...I could see he was nice. I don't own a TV and tho I knew he was diagnosed I am very upset as I forgot and I see he has really degenerated verbally in the last year....so so sad for a great great broadcaster....wish I'd gone up now, shook his hand and said hello.....he was always a good kind man in interviews....

What a strong man,Paying tribute to a brave and inspirational lady who was a hero in her own right.Its confusing to see Charlie at times when he looks so healthy yet not hear him speak, but I must say the technology that recreates his beloved voice is truly mind-blowing,he still in some way has his trademark tone.These are the real Heroes we should take our inspiration from,not fake titted Kardashians and the other tripe that dominates the media and airwaves.

I have tried to contact them and have been unsuccessful i am unable to make a phone call because i suffer with multiple sclerosis and my hands are crippled,but this text is done with my right hand, i have been desperate and unable to get through to the samaritans.scared and depressed and quite helpless
John do you have a Carer coming to help you? Or family or friends who call to you? If so, please ask them to dial the Samaritans Phone Number for you. I’m sure they would be glad to help in any way they can.
Go to your local politicians office or library or the citizens info. The postman at the door may even help u if u are desperate. Ask anyone...please...I've rung them b4...they are a great service.....I believe they have a new number....would that b the issue...
