For anyone considering doing this, know that this only works, AT BEST, on a mildly dirty grill. And if you have a nice wooden or composite deck that your grill is sitting on, you'd better move the grill and clean it elsewhere because the degreaser that you rinse off will stain your deck. There's no possible way to wipe up ALL of the degreaser/grease with towels/rags.
You'd also better have A LOT of rags that you are okay with throwing in the garbage, because salvaging them is hopeless. One steel wool pad will definitely not be enough.
If you let your grill go for a long time without cleaning it like I did mine, either accept that it's going to stay that way or throw it away because deep cleaning it after it gets really bad is an exercise in futility and frustration

I did a rinse test recently to see if my grill would drain when I go to hose it out. I only discovered a leak or two. I want to rinse it but I’m not sure the water will go anywhere. How do you know?

It sounds like you might have gotten water in the starter. So you would want to dry it out and retry. Maybe leave it in the sun to dry out. But for now you can start it with a lighter

Wow, I just saw this and I can NOT believe this. You mention safety glasses and gloves to protect whoever does this, but what about the environment? What about the animals and plants that will absorb the chemicals you're just so uncaringly rinsing into your yard?
