I never understood why Daenerys received so much hate for burning the Tarlys. The punishment for insubordination is death. Jon killed Janos Slynt for that, Ned killed some dude in season one for that. Like yeah, she burned them. Her house motto is ‘Fire and Blood’ after all
The difference is Janos Slynt and the man Ned executed had both sworn oaths of loyalty to the Night's Watch, the Tarlys were not sworn to Dany, they were sworn to Cersei, so really they were executed for keeping their oaths. And anyway, the defense that "everyone else in Westeros does the same" does not work in the case of Dany who has promised to break the wheel, does doing the same thing as your enemies really count as breaking the wheel?

Yesmine THANK YOU! The Tarlys first served the Targs. Then the Tyrells and then Cersei. Their loyalty is fickle AF. If I was a ruler I’d have them killed cuz I wouldn’t feel safe given their track record. Dany gave them a choice of keeping all their lands and titles if they swear fealty to her. Reasons why I love Dany despite so many fans hating her:
-Her family once had been powerful, when she was born, she was born into a world that no longer wanted her.
-She was told by her brother that the Targaryens were the true rulers of the Seven Kingdoms, she just wanted to be accepted.
-Viserys was abusive to her, pinching her breasts, verbal insults
-She was married to Khal Drogo against her will, she was raped on their wedding day.
-As she pointed out to Jon, assassins tried to murder her since her birth
-She learned how to turn her pain into power, she was the wife of a great Khal.
-Cinderella has nothing to this rags to riches story.
-She lost everything; home, parents, brothers, husband, son. And gained everything; an army, dragons, her titles.
-Olenna approves (we love the Queen of Thorns, she and the Martells see something worth following in Daenerys).
Yes, she can be rash, impulsive, but she also listens to the pleas of her people and can be merciful. (Still impulsive, sweet, to burn the Tarlys.) She's not mad; it's war, she cannot afford to be nice all the time. If you're nice, you will die.
Add the fact that she's been betrayed many times. This is war, there's a fight for power, she can't afford to be nice all the time.

You be nice, people will regard that as weakness and you will die. Has everyone forget the dick move made by Cersei in season 6 regarding the Sept of Baelor? She blew everyone in there, every man and woman (not sure if there were kids) to the Seventh Hell and anyone too close to the Sept at the time. Hell, some got squished because of a freaking bell fell on top of them. All Dany did was be a smaller dick to a whole lot less people.

Yeah they did do her dirty. Season 8 actually wasn't supposed to be all about the iron throne. The white walkers were supposed to be such a huge threat to humanity that moved the plot forward. The bigger the threat the dead became the less important the iron throne was supposed to be but they subverted pur expectations and made it about the throne and pit her and Jon against each other for no reason because she knew she had to get married to create alliances once She got to Westeros that's why she left Daario in Mereen. She even married Hizdar in season 5 for politics but all of a sudden she's so stupid that she wouldnt know that marrying Jon would solve the issue with him being the heir. D&D are just idiots.

I like Daenerys character because it has this... chaotic good to her. She's good, but in a chaotic way. She's won most of her followers through love and admiration, and now is resorting to fear, because she knows how it works in Westeros.
No character in this series is good. There are bad characters, but there's no truly good characters, and I like how even Daenerys fits into this.

@@beastmasterbg Tyrion has been slightly "good-washed" in the series. He literally murders his girlfriend, Shae, and in the books it wasn't in self-defense. So I agree with the main statement: There aren't any truly good characters.
I think Daenerys alignment is more neutral good. She can be equally lawful and chaotic, but always with good intentions.
Dan P What about Jon? He’s killed people both in defence and because his honour compelled him (Olly the kid who betrayed him), and has been so loyal as to almost destroy a chance at an alliance with Lannister’s at the Dragonpit meeting. He lives by a code indefinitely. I can’t think of a time where he’s truly abandoned his code (except almost leaving the nights watch to go aid his brother Rob). I believe Jon Snow to be the only truly ‘good’ character

I guess that people forget that Cersei just casually killed hundreds of people just so she could be queen. Cersei is the mad Queen. Don't care if she's playing the game of thrones, shes just as bad as Jeoffry.
I guess the difference is that in earlier seasons she killed people who deserved it - maybe not every single one of them, but as a group, the slavers deserved to get stripped of their power to abuse people who were lower class than themselves. When Daenerys kills Cercei's men, she doesn't kill them for enslaving people like the slavers did or raping and killing people like the Dothraki leaders did. She kills them because they fought for Cercei - who is their queen at the moment - and being loyal to her. She kills people for being loyal to their queen, people who don't see the said queen as evil. The public doesn't know about Cercei's wrongdoings, they don't know she's the one who blowed up the sept or anything else she did. They see her as a queen they are sworn to obey, and Daenerys kills them for not breaking that oath.
Gamikane I think you‘re right with everything except for the part where you claim that the public doesn’t know about her wrongdoings. Remember Hot Pie‘s quote „Heard she blew up the great sept.“ If he knows, everyone else knows too. I think they are loyal to her because they swore a vow, and they remain loyal despite their knowing about Cersei’s actions either because honor and loyalty mean everything to them, or out of fear of Cersei. If she heard that someone betrayed her, she would probably have the Mountain wipe out their whole family.

@@Gamikane all of westeros has hated cersei and the lannisters for years now, even prior to when cersei committed an act of terrorism and usurped the throne (which is common knowledge among the peasants). and daenerys was, all things considered, extremely fair to lord tarly. she actually offered him his life and he refused, and even in execution she treated him with respect, even though he mocked her. the tarlys are principal bannermen to the tyrells (who had declared for house targaryen) and owe them their primary allegiance, which tyrion points out. cersei being his queen is merely an excuse randyll hid behind, when the real reason he is fighting for her is simply for the promise of control of the reach. the reality is the entire purpose of war is to defeat your enemies. the tarlys would have killed daenerys if she had won the battle, and they knew that she would do the same to them if they lost. that's war.
i think the main reason people draw so much issue with the fact that daenerys executed the tarlys is the manner in which the scene is constructed; the ominous music, the defeat in the eyes of the tarly soldiers, tyrion walking across the battlefield looking at the ashes. you're SUPPOSED to believe she's having a mad queen moment, despite the fact that her actions really do not suggest this.

No other character grown so much in this series: She started as a sad and weak child tormented by her abusive brother. She was sold to Khal Drogo as an animal to be his wife. She lost her husband and also her khalasar and was left to starve to death in the desert, but instead of die she brought back dragons to life. She walked throughout Essos to learn how to be a queen. She ruled Meereen and saved all slaves in the free-cities. She reunited all Khals to her domain and was the first ruler to make them cross the Narrow Sea on the way to Westeros to play the Game of Thrones and break the wheel of power. My Queen: the Mother of Dragons, breaker of Chains, the unburned....... Long life to the of Queen of Westeros!!!

It's interesting, as when she had to kill to intimidate the Lannister-Tarly forces, her face and tone showed no pleasure. When she gave the order, it was soft, resigned. It wasn't her favored option, but she knew it had to be this way even if she wished there was another way. She didn't smile as Cersei had during the destruction caused by the Wildfire. She did it only because there was no other way.
Well, Cercei killed bastards that gloated about her walking naked through the streets. It is only natural that she is a little giddy.

So suddenly she went mad, no foreshadowing at all, no character mad arc. I love Daenerys, a queen who loved by millions and powerful enough to protect her people and rights.

*SPOILER SEASON 8 EPISODE 4*
They are being so unfair to Dany in season 8. She sacrificed half of her army and one of her dragons for the north, and she doesn't even get a "thank you". She lost her beloved friend Jorah, she lost another one of her dragons, and then she lost her best friend Missandei who got her head cut off right in front of her. Yet nobody respects her and nobody thanks her - all the while they call her mad. One of her advisors are scheeming to get rid of her behind her back and everyone blames her for wanting to set things on fire. If I were her and those things happened to me I'd want to burn things too. She's sacrificed lost so much in such a short span of time and yet she gets nothing back.
The writers are turning her character over and turning her into something she's not because of fanservice. 10 years of struggle from the bottom and to the power, and this is how she ends? With everyone thinking she's mad? With little to no respect? Fuck. At this point I want her to burn everything - fuck the throne.
I agree... I'm shocked what the writers did to her. And I'm so fed up with the Dany haters chanting this "Mad Queen" bullshit. The fuck, it has nothing to do with her lineage, it's just horrible writing and making her lose everything and everyone. D&D are destroying Dany's whole fucking plot of her not being like her father, but having a good heart. This was so brilliantly done... her titles said by Missandei over the perfectly chosen scenes, Olenna's "Be a dragon", Dany's speech to Qarth over the scenes of her armies and dragons, followed by her speech to the Unsullied and the Dothrakis... chills everywhere. Some fans hate on her for the speeches, but I love them all (especially the one to the khalasar, echoing Drogo's promise to her), and it is extremely fitting to the character - Daenerys is a character who inspires others, a character who draws loyalty and love. This is the very essence of who she is, and your tribute displayed that perfectly and beautifully.

So manu people are hating on Danny this season and think she’s becoming the mad queen. But the thing is Cirsie’s already filled that role. You’d get rash too if you were losing everything including your dragons, your most trusted advisers, and your lover. I don’t blame her for losing her grip a little bit. She’s been through so much and overcome a lot of tough situations in her lifetime. She uses some fear now because it’s what works where she is now but she will never be the mad queen. She has her father’s blood I won’t deny it, but in her case it makes her fiery and fierce not mad. She’s made mistakes, but so has every character in the show.
Still doesn't excuse the fact that she burned thousands of innocents who had nothing to do with killing her "children" and friends.

I loved Dany in the first seasons. I still like her but I can see she's blinded sometimes by her ambition. She has the potential for madness but she knows it and being aware of that, she tries to follow what wise people advise her to do. She's always tried to learn from those wiser than her, and she's always welcomed their opinions. I really hope she stays like this. This would be a good queen.

It drives me mad when no one called Cersei a Mad Queen when she blew up the Sept of Bailor and all it’s trial attendees both friend and foe and with it an entire section and civilians in King’s Landing. Now that was crazy!
In the final episode I noticed, that Cersi never commanded that the bells ring in surrender because the bells were never meant to ring for surrender. Consequently, we never saw who rang the bells. Jaimie was busy getting to Cersi. That “bell ploy,” was Tyrion’s invention. Suspecting that he was a traitor, knowing he had released his Brother Jaimie, Dyanaris couldn’t trust him and seeing Cersei watching calmly from her balcony, who could blame her for fearing a trap. And rightfully so, The Queen of Dragons was, “Not today Lannisters!” and Fire and Blood had its reign. Dyanaris wasn’t a Mad Queen, her downfall came when she told Jon (brainwashed by Tyrion) that, those with other opinions as to what is good, would not get to choose and since that included Sansa, and Arya. He stabbed her to save his family, not kill a new tyrant. And don’t get me started on “Bran the Broken,” who came “...all this way,” to be King. That final Season had more wholes than a slice of rotting Swiss Cheese! I hope GRRM clears this mess up sooner than later in THE WINDS OF WINTER & A DREAM OF SPRING. Write GRRM, write!!!!

Daenerys Targaryen winning or destroying the Iron Throne was a great inspiration to show what it takes to EARN respect, never demand it, no matter how 'cliche' it looked:
Forced into a marriage? EARN his respect and have him under your control.
Lost your Ally? EARN respect from a whole Army.
Don't have an Empire? EARN a Kingdoms respect through Persuasion instead of Force.
Don't know how to control your City? Hire people smarter than you are.
Earn LOYALTY from your friends and FEAR from your enemies.

She has always been chaotic good. She is ruthless at times but she indeed has a good heart. She started off with nothing & achieved alot. She gave herself a motive & built her life around it, helping others on her way.

Yes, she should rule! She has been through too many life-ending situations and she gnomically overcame every violent situation. She's sexy. She's smart. She's strong. And she is a true survivor. Yes. She gets my vote! Jon has not overcome the level of circumstance as she. And the fact that she overcame her situations impressively being a woman speaks to the credibility of her ruling the seven kingdoms!

For as much as people hated the end to this story, it’s amazing how we are still discussing it. I can’t help but think that if GRRM or the show writers ended this saga with a pretty bow and happy ever after…no one would care anymore. It would just get packed away with all the other stereotypical films in this genre. This is great fiction. It challenges your preconceptions and digs deeper than all those cookie cutter fables.

Blah blah blah about her burning these two! These two broke their oath to house Tyrell to support Cersei. They were traitors! They accomodated to their own convenience. This is all war, you take sides, you win or lose. They chose their death. Why feel sorry for them?... Daenerys is addressing traitors here and showing them their options. I don't know why they showed pride in the first place when they just had betrayed the Tyrell.

Her story is the most tragic fictional character in literature I’ve came across. I watched this character grow and evolve into an awe- inspiring ruler. Someone who wasn’t afraid of changing the world, and wasn’t afraid to tear down systems of oppression for the good of all people. To root for someone for almost a decade and then see the outcome that she got in this last season...it felt so hollow, like a death. I think that’s why so many fans are mad at the writers because of what they did with these characters. They could have developed it in way that didn’t feel so rushed and empty. I dunno, I guess we just have to live with it and move on...

And after 7 season she's still good... Giiiiirl how !? If i was her i will be mad since the death of my husband because of a traitor ! But not her ! She freed the slaves she ruled mereen even when people was shitting on her in mereen, she helped the north and lose one of her baby, her protector and all of her dothraki, what a strong girl... 😞She died in vain. She died for nothing. After seeing 73 episodes within 2 weeks, I felt wasted. She was the true savior of the seven kingdoms and killed by a coward. Sacrificed two of her beloved dragons (death of them were devastating), half her unsullied soldiers, Missandei.. There were no possible reasons to make her mindless at the end of the season. And still, she could be a great ruler, even though her massacre at the King’s Landing. Cersei Lannister or the 'ultimate cunt', was the only person who deserved a death like that, killed by a loved one. Every one hated Dany- Sansa, Arya, Jon, Tyrion, the Northerners... those who got their breath only because of the true queen.
I still wonder that, the person with the devil’s hand, Cersei, died like a normal person irrespective of her deeds. And even Tyrion sympathizes for her death at last, who killed his father. Also, Tywin Lannister was a far better person than Cersei. Everyone took the power of Daenerys's as an advantage, conquer places and backstabbed her.
I expected a one and only ending like every other viewers: - she as the queen of seven kingdoms, Tyrion- hand of the queen, Jon- The king of North, Samwell- the Grand Maester, and use other trustworthy lords in the small council. Under what circumstances, Daenerys will always be the queen in GoT for me😒. That is how it should have ended. Jon and Tyrion are the exact Kingslayers. 😡😡😡
