Tuning the carburetor on a DOA Simplicity Snow Blower

  • This Simplicity Sno-Away 7 24" snow blower rolled into the shop as a DOA, non-running unit. We cleaned out the carb and then tuned the idle and main circuits air/fuel mixture to get it running like a tok. Old style Tecumseh carburetors have adjusting screws for the high and low speed circuits, while newer engines (early 2000's and up) usually have fixed jets from the factory which cannot be adjusted manually.

"Searching" 😂 great video but it's surging. I suppose searching works too but that's a first time I've heard of searching. Anyways good video!

Great video! I have an old ariens with a 5hp Tecumseh that I just got going today after a lot of refurbishing. It was given to me and it was basically out in the elements for 3 years. When I picked it up it had a ratty old tarp covering it. I stopped in here to pick up some tips! Thanks!

Great video here, looks like my issue is a dirty carb.

Looks like those minty Knipex channel locks came in handy👌. Even in Winterpeg you don't need the electric start. Just a Red Bull and a Twinkie will give you enough energy to pull start any blower.

In one of your videos you were talking about popping the emulsion tube out of a Tecumseh carb you were cleaning. To clarify for you, the older adjustable carbs with the brass emulsion tube are pressed in, they don't come out, only the newer non adjustable carbs that have the plastic emulsion tube come out. Someone just asked me that. Good to clarify that, so people don't destroy their carbs trying to get them things out on the ones that don't come out. The older adjustable ones are better, not only because the emulsion tube is brass, but because its adjustable.

I have one of these but a different model. I found it outside when I moved to my house. I need to replace a lot of parts. I was wondering what is that black rubber tube that comes out of the block? It’s on the left side of the carburetor.

I think I need to sometime figure out how come my Ariens St824 with the 8horse tecumseh. Sometimes back fires and I think runs a little high. She runs like a champ and has never let me down. Over this next summer I think I'm going to do a little rust repair and do a little paint touch up on the spots that have a little rust forming.
I got it used going on 3 years ago now but its a good unit!

I have the small brother st5+2, 15 years old runs great... Anyways your backfire usually means lean condition, bad timing or a bad spark plug(mostof the time). I belive it's old enough it should have the exact same setup with high/low speed. I would start with new spark, fresh gas and a cleaned carb. Start with 1 1/2 turns out on both and fine tune. As far as high Rev, if your governer( check all throttle and governer linkage for damage also) isn't faulty simply adjust the throttle lever screw to back it down at full speed. You'll need some kind of tachometer and specs to get it dead on, but easier is just to be cautious on how high you set it by ear. If you find backfire still I would rebuild OEM CARB WITH OEM PARTS. Don't go aftermarket cheap China carb, or at the very least get an adjustable one but I wouldn't recommend this, stick with oem.

Hey save all briggs and Stratton engines you can. You Probly already know but they went under. Last year? I think. They'll come back under a different owner but Probly won't be the same

I hate when people leave stuff sit outside when they have a garage. Stupid. And you never need to work on carburetors if you run Seafoam thru your engine before you shut it down for the season. If you do, it will start right up again when you go to use it again.
