The moment he said it would all be done by his mother, i would nope the F out of that situation so fast.
The only person you can guarantee and trust to stand up for you is yourself. A gift with strings attached is not a gift.

One guess why his first marriage didn’t last… The minute he said “keep your mouth shut” there would have been a tough conversation and very probably a cessation of the engagement.

It's just so incredibly hard to have sympathy for someone who not only allows herself to be walked all over, but allowed her parents to pay for the privilege of her being a doormat. 🙄

I agree. Victim mentality will never get you the life you want.

A niece of mine had something like this happen. My nephew in law was giving in to his moms demands. I had a talk with him about his future and how his fiance will be there with him far longer than his mom. His fiance is the one who should be happy and if hes ever going to stand up to his mom it should be now. It was a kind of wake up call for him. They had a nice wedding and my niece was beautiful and happy as she should be. Hes a good guy, he spent his whole life being dominated by his mother and thats hard. I feel bad for the woman who wrote in, she deserves better.

Wouldn't have been a wedding if it was me. If he was like that when they were dating I wouldn't give him the password either.

When he was acting that way during engagement I would've had to say sorry, wrong choice I changed my mind! Makes me wonder why he and the first wife divorced..? Mother in law maybe? Also, if it is SOMEONE else's wedding and you OFFER to pay that doesn't make it okay to decide everything you want and not ask the couple that's actually getting married. Your opinions and suggestions should be considered and some compromises made but not the full wedding, plan your wedding or renewal if you want everything your way.

I can see some menu changes if a person has a religious avoidance or a food allergy, but other than that? It's the wedding couple's choice.

Should have said " I have no problem if you mother plans a wedding " Just won't be mine

Why did she marry him? She starts the whole thing off with how it has harmed their marriage. He's clearing controlling and a major mamas boy. My MIL tried to step into my wedding/ marriage and I shut it down. When she tried to use my husband to gain control I simply told her that wasn't happening. I told her I was the one he was marrying. And then I reminded her when ever I needed to. Don't expect anyone else to keep your boundaries. That's your job.

I’m only 1:30 in and already feel bad for the bride. Your alliance is with your partner not your parent.

My failed wedding planning, I really didn’t care, I would have been happy doing what my mother did and gone to City Hall and Justice of the Peace. Mom, on the other hand, planned everything down to the tiniest detail. My fiancé’s mother was in on the planning, my mom was paying. My fiancé and I kind of stood and shrugged over it all. I let her do it because it made her happy and I really didn’t want to

Yup. Wonder just how much his nasty mother had to do with that first divorce. And I see a second one coming down the pike.

My hubby and I agreed let the person give a monetary gift instead what they felt comfortable if offered or wanted to help us monetarily with the wedding or as wedding gift. That was our boundaries. Then we decide what to do it with were goes for the wedding. No matter who it was family or friends. Yes my Dad did this he gave us 2000 as a wedding gift. This way they have no say in the official wedding process or day.
