The killer in this game is literally that weird Japanese doll everyone's scared of, dressed as Jeff the Killer, which is jarring and funny at the same time.

The depiction of PTSD in this game is similar to the one in Bloober Teams "Blair Witch" - and neither are terribly accurate, though "Blair Witch" had some accurate moments. PTSD in severe cases is like trying to move on with your day / your life while also reliving a traumatic experience on loop. For some folks this means hallucinations but usually it's distraction, paranoia, anxiety, confusion, and mood swings - all of which is possible to recreate in a game, but doesn't necessarily make the game fun to play or understand. I wonder what the next big horror game mental illness of choice will be. I'm so tired of these "oops I was crazy the whole time" """twist""" endings. And there's three more chapters, when you've already got the whole story figured out? Here's an idea - make a scary game without also giving the main character a mental illness. Maybe they could be stressed and guilty instead of "insane", or forgetful with poor impulse control, or a strong believer in gang stalking and mind control. It's entirely possible to be a functional member of society and have wacky beliefs or behaviors - just as it's possible to be a diagnosed schizophrenic and still be a functional member of society. Nonetheless I'm interested in seeing the rest of this, if only to enjoy your snark and complain about the story in the comments. The park looks lovely. The news articles don't sound realistic. I'm not sure why Alex has a British accent and Sam sounds like a charming customer service pro in her 30s. The kidnapper is genuinely scary to look at, strong shades of Momo. But the game seems repetitive and slow, and I can't imagine a payoff awaits beyond "oh yeah I remembered my trauma and now I feel terrible and want to die" - which is no fun.
"i developed PTSD and bc the writers don't know what that is it's caused me to 'behave uncontrollably' ... also it's the 1920s so i was transported to a 'clinic for mentally disturbed people'"
I'm not sure if you read all the comments John, but I just want to say that I appreciate that you continue to play these horror games. You’ve been my favorite RUclips creator for over 7 years man. I always know I can click a new John video and watch start to finish enjoying every second. Thanks man!
I didn't like how the narrator described his own PTSD at all, and it made me a little skeptical about the game's statement of their respectful approach to the subject of mental illness, but I tried to step into this giving them the benefit of the doubt. It still managed to disappoint me.
That face looks familiar, like momo or that ayoki/michael jackson horror game? And stuff like not calling Sam when a rational person would call... suspension of disbelief can only be stretched to far
I feel like busywork and back and forth gives a fitting feeling of frustration from the character's PoV, but there should be a better way to have the player experience the compulsions or delusions and the resulting emotions.
Does the stabber have a Jeff the Killer face??? Or Momo??? I'm surprised that a game that supposedly depicts mental illness inoffensively didn't name the hospital. It's kinda off that it's referred to as a hospital for mentally disturbed people.
I saw it mentioned that the devs are Austrian, so as with a bunch of other strange things in the game, maybe it's a language issue and less a sensitivity issue. Not naming the place just seems like lazy writing (since it's not where it takes place, it doesn't get a name like the park) though.
@@fullofwish Not sure that's an issue. I am Swiss, not that far away from Austria. Then again, maybe I am just trying to throw some shade at our "Össi" neighbours :P

Bet this is gonna be another game that totally misrepresents mental health issues. Man, this dev really doesn't know how to write a news article. 29:24 Also, that's literally the Momo face. Shouldn't it just be a regular guy?
I choose to believe that everything that doesn't make sense in the game is just because the dev completely cluelessly just thinks that's what PTSD does to you. British accent despite calling 911? PTSD makes you British. Momo guy? PTSD makes suspicious people appear to emit monkey sounds and look like momo. Bad graphics? PTSD turns off ray tracing. It's funny to imagine the dev as some bumbling buffoon who has no idea what they're writing about. More fun than the truth, which is, I assume, the dev is ignorant and misrepresenting PTSD and is just too lazy to be logical and consistent and the momo face model was cheap
Like with motorcycles. Some people get certain cars, just to look "cool" but have little to no desire to master that machine. So they end up in really bad accidents, just trying to show off. Mustangs crashing, is a meme at this point. Because they are muscle cars, they prioritize power over handling, meaning they can be very difficult to control. Especially if someone doesn't know what they are doing, has no training, and doesn't even practice or hoon in safe areas like empty parking lots, just to get used to the car. My point is, did the main character just Mustang his own sister? While she was a passenger? My favorite Mustang crash video, is when one almost loses control, than another right after it almost hits the camera guy....One distracts, the other attacks. THEY ARE EVOLVING.
"Anyone else think that Alex sounds like a really annoying person to be around?" me, whose name is Alex: :( in all seriousness, love the impressions of Alex's British accent

They don’t do any research on mental illness and chalk everything up to “it was all in their head.” This demonizes the mental struggle and it’s extremely uncool. It’s done a lot in games these days, but a fee developers do a good job building characters like these.
@@DRUZYDAY They literally posted at the beginning of the game about their game not representing actual mental illness and people still bitched about it in the comments.
I like the fact the clock on the phone actually works.
A dry-wit horror parody game starring Cjugames and John would be the best thing ever.
A John playthrough is just what I needed! Haven't heard of this one so I'm excited to see you play it :)
At the 10:00 mark... "My name is Alex Green, I'm particularly upset about something..." had me busting out in laughter. I have no clue why?
I love all the misrepresention of PTSD and can't wait for more stigma for people with ptsd! We don't get enough am I right guys? (Sarcasm)
Yup I Totally relate so hard with this that my eyes fell out after all the rolling! Honestly research is not hard...
@@bungiecrimes7247 you good dude? Seems like you're having a rough day
Is it true that people with PTSD can see the edges of their eyelids with an unsettling amount of clarity?
@@Deadener very accurate
@@Deadener if you're talking about tunnel vision then yeah, adrenaline / fight or flight / panic attacks can cause you to see a lot of darkness around your eyes. But seeing your eyelids specifically, I've never really heard of that nor experienced it that I can recall. If you're curious about PTSD or cPTSD (complex PTSD) I'd recommend looking up RUclips videos on it from people who have experienced it or checking out Reddit forums.
I can’t stop thinking about the box manipulation 😭 “Yeah you worthless power box, I’m the only one for you.”
*lights up*
me: i want kit harington as the voice actor
my mom: we have a kit harington voice actor at home
the kit harington voice actor at home: it's already quite late i have to hurry
I know you mentioned feeling burned out on this genre a few times now and I can understand. It's always a treat to see you upload videos, be it crappy games or stories you wrote as a kid. Your content never fails to put a smile on my face.
1:23 John already hates the game. “I have a mental disorder and it makes me see things.”
John: “👀…”
Ahahaahaha John hates all these indie horror games with mental illness tropes.
we need horror games with mental healthiness.
Well, they're very rarely made with any shred of originality or intrigue, and very often poorly misrepresent the mental illness meant to be protrayed, so... Can't blame him
At this point we need a horror game where the protagonist has a mental illness and DOESNT kill people at the end
Another upside is the the voice actor did a really good job reading his lines, tho coulda added a bit more emotion to the more panicked situations
You’ve been my favorite RUclips creator for over 7 years man. I always know I can click a new John video and watch start to finish enjoying every second. Thanks man!
I'm gonna make a guess right now, the real psychological horror is that he couldn't get a Mustang and had to settle for a Pinto.
Sam was in the passenger side of her best friend's ride...
Was she trying to holler at you?
@@JulesMarsTM She did, but I don't want no scrubs.
Happy you're here, happy I'm here, happy we're enjoying this play-through together, friends ❤
Yes,we friends
This comment was creepier than the video.
9:45 She heard "can't find her" and "Whine Vale Park" and went _nope_
John: "I think it's like 5 bucks"
Also John: "I don't even know how much it is"
I will always enjoy John’s psych jokes. 😂😂😂😂 …psych….
Psych is a really good show!
@@Bloomkyaaa Psych is a really good show! The first seasons are especially *chef’s kiss*
Ah yes another indie horror game where we vilify PTSD. Nonetheless, love your play through and commentary as always John ☺️
I actually get so excited when I see a new video from you, dude. Exactly what I need after a long day.
The thumbnail looks like the thing from that shitty Momo game.
oh my god john what a timing i was about to poop this is perfect

@@QueryBuns 3 hours later...there's a reason they need things to watch when they have to go, they must be on their 4th viewing of this video.
As a Brit, hearing John’s accent impression was comedy gold (can confirm we do say ‘you bellend’ but can’t say I’ve ever said ‘if it pleases you’ 😆)
I didn't like how the narrator described his own PTSD at all, and it made me a little skeptical about the game's statement of their respectful approach to the subject of mental illness, but I tried to step into this giving them the benefit of the doubt. It still managed to disappoint me.
I never knew I needed to hear John say the word “bellend” in a British accent until now 😂
That face looks familiar, like momo or that ayoki/michael jackson horror game?
And stuff like not calling Sam when a rational person would call... suspension of disbelief can only be stretched to far
I was scrolling down to see if somebody else saw that the killer is actually momo lmao
Ah you have impeccable timing John, just finished work 👌🏼
i was gunna eat mushrooms but then john clearly stated not to.
Damn John you had a Mustang?! You must have a lot of self confidence
I missed, like, 90% of the opening exposition because I was just like PTSD isn't a behavioral disorder??? I was so confused xD
Mustangs must crash, they're not called crowd killers for nothing.
I was looking forward to watching John attempt to gaslight the power box
Not sure if John realized but Emily's body bag was near her grave where he read Paul's letter right at the edge of the pond.
I feel like busywork and back and forth gives a fitting feeling of frustration from the character's PoV, but there should be a better way to have the player experience the compulsions or delusions and the resulting emotions.
Entire Family Missing.
Woman most effected.
Glad you have been uploading more recently John. Love your content.
I'm not even 3 minutes in and can already tell this video will be absolute gold
Does the stabber have a Jeff the Killer face??? Or Momo???
I'm surprised that a game that supposedly depicts mental illness inoffensively didn't name the hospital. It's kinda off that it's referred to as a hospital for mentally disturbed people.
Sounds like a nightmare(or weird creepypasta): A Jeff The Killer with a Momo mask? :D
Isn't it obvious? Jeff the Killer and Momo had a baby and a new killer was born for this story
I saw it mentioned that the devs are Austrian, so as with a bunch of other strange things in the game, maybe it's a language issue and less a sensitivity issue. Not naming the place just seems like lazy writing (since it's not where it takes place, it doesn't get a name like the park) though.
@@fullofwish Ah, I see. Thanks for the information!
@@fullofwish Not sure that's an issue. I am Swiss, not that far away from Austria. Then again, maybe I am just trying to throw some shade at our "Össi" neighbours :P
All I want for Christmas is John speaking like Alex for one whole video.
Every time John or a character said "power house" I would reflexively say "mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell."
19:20 he missed the body in a bag on the edge of the pond.
So far the only game recently that I’ve seen do PTSD and other related mental illnesses in a tasteful and fun way was “In Sound Mind”; but I mean….at least this one had a cool atmosphere. And I thought the voice acting was really good. That’s kinda where my compliments stall lol
I look forward to watching this. I'm saving his vids for a john wolfe binge day. Super stoked about the new house of ash next month.
Hey John, if you’re interested, I suggest you check out Poppy’s Playhouse. It’s a new puzzle-ish horror game that actually looks pretty good. Would love to see your reaction to it!
@@bungiecrimes7247 I’d say I hope it doesn’t go Bendy’s route, instead. I didn’t like that they hid the “this is only chapter one” line in their wall of text description instead of the title, and the first chapter was pretty short. Which is fine for an introduction, but Bendy’s seemed interesting at first too. Then it was all downhill from there and didn’t even finish off with a satisfying lore. Also happened in an old factory…
Saw Cory played it. Looks pretty good
I vote for this one next too, saw Vlad's vid would be nice to see John's reaction~
I say wait until all the chapters are out, kinda tired of these chapter by chapter games, only rlly works if they’re extremely unique like deltarune or dark deception. Poppy ain’t there yet it’s already very fnaffy in its story presentation
@@digitalization Are you talking about Poppy’s Playtime? I understand being disappointed if it carries similarities to games like Tattletail and Bendy, but that chase scene was INTENSE.
John is the most reliable and comforting gamer to watch. He deserves way more subs!

Thanks Harshly Wolfical, keep up the great work
This is the fastest Ive ever gotten to a video wow, so excited!
As a current mustang owner and from the land of the blighty 🇬🇧 mustangs are a little rarer (like a lot of American cars I guess) so they are a little confidence boost...Until you need fuel 🤦♀️😂
Have to say though John your English accent is on point 👍🤣🤣
@@bigpooper4156 LMAO I like that!
For a Jeff the Killer game this wasn't terrible.
I really like the setting of this one! Walking alone in a dim park is just too relatable
"Lets call 911 just for fun it'll be funny"
Thats what 3 year old me said and then the cops came and boy did i get in trouble
9:10
Didn't realize this game was called Psych until the title screen. I thought he was making fun of the game in his video title.
+1 to the count of games that don't understand how 911 works
11:54 Oh no, he’s got us for three minutes.
The title made me think it was a puppet combo game 😂
"Anyone else think that Alex sounds like a really annoying person to be around?"

The video title had me thinking it was gonna be like that one where the person is chasing you through the office but in a park. Which could have been kind of cool. Instead we got...this...
