Man, the visceral creepiness of that intro, not even the serial killer stuff, but just being a woman trying to get somewhere alone in a city at night. Complete with gross comments and creepy guy.
Lol yes, it's great attention to detail!! My family and I used to live in a run-down area when we first moved to the city, and the paranoia feeling is spot on!
Him getting right up in the mic with the gameplay + music starting and "The Nintendo Entertainment System..." had me pausing to laugh it's so accurate.
I like how slashers are revealed to be only human yet have super human strength and durability. Tragic backstory = can lift a guy off his feet one-handed and cut through bone and muscle like it is a literal piece of cake.
It's kind of how we don't know what we're capable of in a dire situation..scientists say we don't tap into the full power of our brains, only a certain percentage. Maybe psychopaths break that limit on the brain and push their bodies through the limit

There is something about puppet combo games that i cant get enough of. Even though its pixelated, they manage to create SUCH an amazing atmosphere, i find myself rewatching playthroughs all the time.

I actually throught Puppet Combo was building toward a cinematic universe with Night Shift, Stay Out of the House, Feed Me Billy, etc. and i've been a bit bummed that he doesn't really seem interested. It's so frustrating in fact that it's one of the inspirations for my game #NotSSGame that I'm making now. Kind of like, being sick of waiting for others to make the game I want to see, so i'm making it. RL Stine is the same way. He has LOTS of Goosebumps books but no desire to connect them all into a big story. So that's what I'm doing, in my own way.

I found that bus interaction at 9:19 to be the creepiest part of the game for me. something about the timing, his request to sit beside, and the dialogue gave me a visceral "gtfo" reaction

It's dumb and schlocky and makes little sense but that's the vibe the game is going for in the first place and seems to be kind of paying homage to those type of horror plots. To be honest the whole plot of this is really dumb since it requires a pregnant woman to ignore the fact that there is a serial killer targeting pregnant women in that very same area and go out at night alone to a secluded laundromat.
I'm at that bit of the video, and it's never a case of 'too young' with me, it's always 'Not American/never had access to that channel'. Was it a 2am advert on the TV?
I kinda had a feeling the thing with Louis was a red hering. It was too obvious, and too often mentioned. It would of been too easy for him to be the killer. When it was clear that they couldn't find Samanthas body, I felt it was enough of a hint to suggest the true killers identity.
I really enjoy how run down and dirty the environment feels in this game. Reminds me a lot of the city in Night Ripper. Sara lamenting how boring Liam is with sex was really unexpected lol. Though it makes me like her even more.
Yeah, really gives the grimy and uncomfortable vibes of like 70s slashers and giallos. Stuff like Maniac or Basketcase. I like a lot of modern horror but I feel like this genre/niche in particular has been lacking for a while.

There is something extremely familiar about this game; Some game John has played years ago with a near identical start involving a woman, ranting about her idiot man and worrying he won't prove up to being a father, carrying out mundane chores in a ratty apartment. The sense of Deja-vu is honestly more creepy than the story itself.
The part with the mortician at the end seriously gives me the same vibe as that one movie about a mortician and his son doing an autopsy of a witch where freaky things happen lol. 'The Autopsy of Jane Doe'. Man, that was a movie.

The game was well done, love the build up, and the characters. Voice acting was great, and didn't expect the detective like game play but it was a good way to tell the story. Hope to see more from this team.

Interesting thing i noticed, in the scene when Sara witnesses the "Patron" dude be murdered, I noticed that the killer had quite the "feminine" body shape. Which i was rather confused about - given how everyone kept saying Lewis was the culprit. But I kept thinking, is it two? Is there a female involved? And when they found Lewis's body i became to think, is it a woman taking charge?
game is named "bloodwash" the first thing you do is literally zone into a bloody washing machine, i dont know how to feel about this but im so in at the moment
i dont know why but OH my god, every scare in this game managed to get actual jumps out of me. i think the atmosphere was really well done and they really just like, managed to capture that feeling of being a woman out a night. im only halfway through the video and the game has me so keyed up, which is both great (always love when a horror game actually does the job) and Horrible

I started following John Wolfe when starting college a couple years back and needing something to get my mind off the classes and assignments while working full-time. Still one of my favorite streamers. It is refreshing to have someone who still makes quality content and hasn't changed like some others. Thanks John!

Or read about the Japanese man that murdered and raped little girls and sent the videos of him torturing, raping, and murdering the little girls to their parents. No country is truly safe for women to walk around by themselves late at night.
The giant "TIT" at 56:40 really caught me off-guard lol I really enjoyed the voice-acting and characters in this game!! Sara was such a fun protagonist. There was never a moment i felt annoyed or confused at her actions/monologuing, and the subtle character-building moments, like her comments on Peepaw's porn and "No offense, but I think you're the newest thing in this store", made me really like her!
I think everything in this game was pretty good except for the ending. I really like the direction that the game was going in regards to the MC realizing she needs to protect her baby as well as herself, and it feels like that's kind of dropped. I was hoping they would tie her survival of this back to her shoddy relationship and realizing that leaving that would be best for her child, but instead the ending is taken up by the killer's story which really wasn't that interesting imo and kind of weak. I think I would of preferred it if the killer was a pure evil antagonistic force that just existed to threaten you and your baby. The autopsy scene was pretty predictable and didn't add anything either. Other than that though, I think the pacing, atmosphere and cast of characters is really top notch. Props to Jordan King, I want to see what else he can do.
The really tall old woman you meet must have been Samantha! the way she talks about "trying to find her" makes me think that she was trying to find her baby inside all the women she killed.
Hah, when I was a teenager in the 80s, I was blessed to have my very own TV set, all to my self in my bedroom. It had a 4.5 inch black-and-white screen and built in rabbit-ear antenna. I loved that thing.

I love the goofiness of many characters as it happens at nights and I love that hostility of everything around. Nights at the outskirts are scary, I felt this on my own skin. I absolutely adore games which use people as the main threat, these always have a way more realistic and terrifying vibe, it just frightens me

Would have been perfect if after saying "Do you talk to yourself like this all the time?" he just looked straight into the camera silently for a few seconds
Hm, starts off really well but then just rushes everything kinda. I hoped to see more of what happened back at home, lol. But yeah, that's not really a major complaint. My main issues were that you got switched to playing as a random officer in the most crucial moment - seeing the killer for the first time. Really killed the immersion there. And that then, the rest of the game plays a bit like a cliche. I could see the killer was Samantha from a mile away, as well as her motive. It wasn't much of a guessing game, and makes all the stuff in the beginning, like the creepy guy in the bus, pretty unexplained and redundant. Sure, the story is twisted, but you don't really get any touch with any of the characters (are they all dead? even Peepaw? Why were they all introduced then when we didn't even see all of them die? What happened to the cars, did some of them just leave?) So what we get in the end is a shootout that feels like many other games like this before. A bunch of gore and all that, but after the substance was kinda drained from the game, it felt like overkill. And then that obviously sequel baiting in the end. Blah, felt like I was watching Halloween. All in all, a decent effort, but it's far from some of the top notch Puppet Combo games. It's cool that they're publishing such games by other creators, but this felt like it tried to be a Puppet Combo game but didn't really hit all the right notes. Now, I know I may be too harshly critical of it, but I guess i was just kinda expecting it to be better. It would have benefited from being just a tad bit longer, tying up loose ends and getting more polished. Also, a post-credits ending dealing in some way with Sara instead of the very cheesy morgue scene would have been better.

@@konstance13 Manhunt has a lot of that feeling, as well as Condemned. The movie Candyman does too. Urban decay is horribly underused for horror.

Interesting thing i noticed, in the scene when Sara witnesses the "Patron" dude be murdered, I noticed that the killer had quite the "feminine" body shape. Which i was rather confused about - given how everyone kept saying Lewis was the culprit.
But I kept thinking, is it two? Is there a female involved?
And when they found Lewis's body i became to think, is it a woman taking charge?

i dont know why but OH my god, every scare in this game managed to get actual jumps out of me. i think the atmosphere was really well done and they really just like, managed to capture that feeling of being a woman out a night. im only halfway through the video and the game has me so keyed up, which is both great (always love when a horror game actually does the job) and Horrible
The scariest parts were the room full of bleeding washing machines... and the thought of actually having to ride a bus alone at night with a driver that just offered you free intercourse.

No country is truly safe for women to walk around by themselves late at night.

I really enjoyed the voice-acting and characters in this game!! Sara was such a fun protagonist. There was never a moment i felt annoyed or confused at her actions/monologuing, and the subtle character-building moments, like her comments on Peepaw's porn and "No offense, but I think you're the newest thing in this store", made me really like her!
I think everything in this game was pretty good except for the ending. I really like the direction that the game was going in regards to the MC realizing she needs to protect her baby as well as herself, and it feels like that's kind of dropped. I was hoping they would tie her survival of this back to her shoddy relationship and realizing that leaving that would be best for her child, but instead the ending is taken up by the killer's story which really wasn't that interesting imo and kind of weak.
I think I would of preferred it if the killer was a pure evil antagonistic force that just existed to threaten you and your baby. The autopsy scene was pretty predictable and didn't add anything either. Other than that though, I think the pacing, atmosphere and cast of characters is really top notch. Props to Jordan King, I want to see what else he can do.
Haven't watched it all the way through yet, but I bet it's just as good, if not better, as your other vids! Keep up the good work man!

I like the old 80's trope of the killer somehow becoming some sort of paranormal, beastly entity because of prior personal trauma that they suffered.
The really tall old woman you meet must have been Samantha! the way she talks about "trying to find her" makes me think that she was trying to find her baby inside all the women she killed.
2 minutes and 20 seconds into the game and John has already given us good life advice.

I love the goofiness of many characters as it happens at nights and I love that hostility of everything around. Nights at the outskirts are scary, I felt this on my own skin. I absolutely adore games which use people as the main threat, these always have a way more realistic and terrifying vibe, it just frightens me

You should check out “In Sound Mind” it’s a little weird game that needs more attention. Love your stuff John, never stop being as dry as you are.

Hm, starts off really well but then just rushes everything kinda. I hoped to see more of what happened back at home, lol. But yeah, that's not really a major complaint. My main issues were that you got switched to playing as a random officer in the most crucial moment - seeing the killer for the first time. Really killed the immersion there. And that then, the rest of the game plays a bit like a cliche.
I could see the killer was Samantha from a mile away, as well as her motive. It wasn't much of a guessing game, and makes all the stuff in the beginning, like the creepy guy in the bus, pretty unexplained and redundant.
Sure, the story is twisted, but you don't really get any touch with any of the characters (are they all dead? even Peepaw? Why were they all introduced then when we didn't even see all of them die? What happened to the cars, did some of them just leave?)
So what we get in the end is a shootout that feels like many other games like this before. A bunch of gore and all that, but after the substance was kinda drained from the game, it felt like overkill. And then that obviously sequel baiting in the end. Blah, felt like I was watching Halloween.
All in all, a decent effort, but it's far from some of the top notch Puppet Combo games. It's cool that they're publishing such games by other creators, but this felt like it tried to be a Puppet Combo game but didn't really hit all the right notes.
Now, I know I may be too harshly critical of it, but I guess i was just kinda expecting it to be better. It would have benefited from being just a tad bit longer, tying up loose ends and getting more polished. Also, a post-credits ending dealing in some way with Sara instead of the very cheesy morgue scene would have been better.
