  • Volvo V70 D4 AWD (2015) || Timing Belt Replacement
    Replacing the timing belt on my wife's Volvo V70 D4 AWD with the 5 Cylinder Volvo Diesel (181HP)
    Forgot this belt was 10000km overdue! So I made a little video on the swap while I was at it.

    Gotta say, this seems far more easier to do than the absolute hassle it was on my old s70 tdi, 1999 v70 (gasoline) and 2005 v70 d5.

    Bra video, lagt ner mycket jobb på filmningen. Det är ju det en annan observerar mest. Lite mer att skriva bort än på gamla V70, bra jobbat.

    Har just gjort samma jobb på min V70 D3 2012.
    Bytte vattenpump och spämmrullen till multiremmen samtidigt. 34.000 mil så andra gången remmen är bytt. Dock var nog inte vattenpumpen bytt förra gången.
    PS din engelska är perfekt. 😊

    I was scratching my head because this engine was never imported to the USA by Volvo until I realized your American English accent was tricking me 😂

    You should replace water pump. Avoiding to replace water pump you increase chance to doing the same job again in near future.

    The image actually reminds me of a new Chinese nuclear submarine. Barely two months old and it's glistening in the sun, only the sink in the captains quarters already got rust on it. Pray tell, how this Volvo got to be in such condition? Lots of shiney new parts under the hood, but many rusty components at the same time. For a Volvo to have rust in the wheel arches is exceptional. Cheers for the video!

      No but seriously, the car was wrapped before i got it leding to the paint being decent underneath, but it has been vandalized and badly repainted on the hood, and front fenders at some point eventually leding to the rust issue. The sant on the Swedish the roads in combination with 10km dirt roads everyday for the last 4 years just took its right on the car.
      Saving this one for a video in the future.

    I have a D5 from 2011, 205ps version. Later they named this V70 D4 because an upgrade was introduced with the 215ps engine. So the D5 was basically upgraded and the existing D5 downgraded to D4. And to make things littlge more complex, there are also D3 engines both with 4 and 5 cilinders. Yes yes, Volvo does have a somewhat complex identification on their models, but he that is also the case on the later Mercedes-Benz model. For a long time a 280TE was a 2,8 litre engine petrol and the 300D was a 3.0 litre diesel, simpe as that.....if you can recognize the current models by engine type you will be considered as hero ;) D4 and D5 V70's by the way: great cars!

    Bravo , samo niste pokazali zamjenu vodene pumpe i stezanje zatezaca remena niste provjerili sa specijalnim kljucem za zatezanje 24Nm.

    Great video, thanks for doing it!
    A few things I found while doing this..
    I had to raise the engine further to get the water pump in/out (not covered here but most people will do the pump).
    Also, it took a surprising amount of effort and jiggling with the tensioner to get the new belt on.

      Yup, both the tensioner screw and the belt itself can be a bit tricky.

    Ok how often timing belt has to be replaced please? I have V60 XC D4 AWD 2017 with 168k kms.. shall I do it now as previous owner never done it. Got car this week - love it but want to make sure all will be good so replace now or can wait as brochure does not say when to replace it.. 😮 thx for a tip! 🙏

    thanks man. is there any reason you didnt use the tool that holds the screw bolts on the harmonic balancer before tightening the 30mm nut to 300nm?

      U can, but if you have a ugga dugga then i just use that for loosening the bolt 👍

      @@BackmansGarage thanks man. So when turning the crank to line up the timing mark on the top wheel. The crank timing mark will line itself up as the top wheel aligns?

    Never use sealant at the water pumpt, just grease the gasket with grease... easy to remove and no probs.. If you use some sealant, it will bake on and stick as a rock, you will have some fun and remember mechanics mum, he does wrong!!!

      Some like it some don't. I think that key is to use as little as you possibly can. But Iam using it less and less just because like you say, it gets annoying one you remove it to have it clean. But then on the other hand a gasket that is infuzed to the part is equally annoying 😄 Ill give the oil a try nex time im doing a paper type gasket and try soaking it for a while.

      18000mil/10år. Men jag har fått höra 16000mil och 15000 mil också men som tur är så handlar inte denna videon om serviceintervaller 👍

      @@BackmansGarage denna motorn har 18000/10 År Dem äldre Euro 4 Motorerna(singel turbo 185Hk) på första årmodellerna av Fas 2 är 15000/10 år. Sen på 4 cylindriga VEA motorerna är det 15000/10 År :)
