    Definitely like the idea of a AAC nest. The idea of designing ang making your own has a huge appeal.

    I would be worried that placing the magnets on top of the glass will shatter it, but cutting glass is difficult too.

      @TheAntKeeper  2 года назад +1

      I was too, but if you place the magnet close, it seems ok, it’s also surprisingly tight fitting!👌 😊

    Great video but as a newbie at this, I have a question that probably is a dumb one for gurus but I need to ask. Don't the ants need drinking water as well or is hydrating the nest with the sponges enough?

    Seemsnlike small ants could squeeze between the ytong and glass cover

    A question, i also make them but the water reservoir is always dry even with a sponge, and the heat is like 25-30°C so it dries up very fast

    • @TheAntKeeper
      @TheAntKeeper  Год назад

      I have experimented with this since making this video, I notice the same problem over time. Instead, I have painted the bottom of the water reservoir to capture the water for longer.

    I'm just wondering but what would you use to heat the colony

    • @TheAntKeeper
      @TheAntKeeper  2 года назад

      You could use either a low wattage heat matt or heat cord. If your thinking about getting one, try a heat cord since you can warm up several colonies at the same time!

    My ytong nest dry up too fast even with a sponge and I water 3 ml and the nest Isn't really that big

    • @TheAntKeeper
      @TheAntKeeper  2 года назад

      I find I have to hydrate the sponges every 2 days, that being said, some sp. would prefer a dry nest and would suit not being hydrated as often.

      I believe Sealing the outside of the nest with paint will help reduce moisture loss too.
