    I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee and I bought just for camping. The first thing I checked out was if the seats folded all the way down, and you are right, they do. It's also good on gas, comfortable, reliable and has full 4x4. It has a great sound system also. I love it.

    I recently found your videos and have been enjoying them immensely! I'm now inspired to go on some overnight trips in my Honda CRV. I never realized that i could sleep in the back. I'm currently living in Indiana, so the choices for camping/hiking don't compare with what you have in your area out west. Your visit to Bridal Veil Falls brings back some great memories. Back when the tram was still operating there, I was able to go to a few dances up top when I was a college student @ BYU back in the early 1980's. Too bad I didn't have the time, money (or a vehicle, for that matter) to explore the state more extensively while I was there. Thanks for your awesome videos.... love them all!

    How did you like the Jeep compared to your vehicle? Is it something in the future you would want to get?

    • @SUVRVing
      @SUVRVing  6 лет назад +4

      There were little things about the Jeep I didn't like (automatically turning off the engine at a stop light, too many "safe" driving features that were trying to be too smart) and some things I did like (very smooth and quiet ride, backup camera), and overall I had no problems with it. I don't think I'd get one in the future just because Jeeps don't have the best reputation for reliability.

    Great video (as always)! Back in the late 90's in the first few of the 13 years that I drove long haul trucks I spent 2 weeks in Provo Canyon doing some hiking and mtn biking, beautiful place! (just a year or so later, I'd run team trucks and run I70 from CO to I15 and go south to Los Angeles every week through Utah, Utah also being the state that tried to kill me twice in 2001, LOL! Both trucking related, both due to co-driver's stupidity...1st time I broke my neck in 2 places amongst other injuries when a co-driver fell asleep driving close to Richfield. 2nd time I nearly bled to death walking to Richfield's hospital 9 months after that after a co-driver caused a mishap with a sharp tool while working on the truck at the Flying J there after they'd hit an elk the night before, the end result is a completely fake internally left index finger--both could have been much worse I suppose xD )

    Columnar basalt is pretty common to see here in Oregon, as our geology is so "recently" volcanic. I would go so far as to call it ho-hum. BUT I've never ever seen it sitting on its side like that...it suddenly looks ten times more compelling in those "log stacks" ...suuuper cool, though I'm slightly annoyed that Utah even does volcanic rock better than we do. As if all that red rock awesomeness wasn't enough. 8^D
    My first "real" job as a teenager was working in the kitchen at a KFC. I have - without hyperbole - never eaten at a KFC in the almost 30 years it's been since then. Not one single time. Not for any particularly bad reason, it's not like anything awful was happening in the kitchen. But I think a year of eating a *lot* of KFC must've satisfied that craving for a lifetime. Hmmm...wouldn't mind one of those biscuits right about now though.

    • @SUVRVing
      @SUVRVing  6 лет назад +1

      Lol I wouldn't bet against Utah when it comes to most kinds of rock formations. That's kind of the speciality here. There's actually another rock formation similar to the Woodpile called Step Mountain that's much closer to Salt Lake. I hiked it several years ago, but I think it's on private land and is closed to the public now. Bummer. And mmm, yeah I could go for one of those biscuits now too!

    I just put a deposit on a Class B RV - '89 E350 Airstream B190. Needs some inside repair consequent to an old roof leak, but the motor, transmission and suspension check out with a mechanic. Not too much rust.
    Like i don't have enough to think about already, speaking with other older ladies who full time I've gotten the impression that having my bad knee repaired before i go on the road may be wise. There are a couple of university medical schools nearby ... UNC and Duke. I've had past surgery experience with both and know they're anything but perfect. Years back, for two months Duke was accidentally using hydraulic fluid as sterilizing fluid. A visiting surgeon who wasn't accustomed to having his scalpels so slippery brought it to their attention. I guess mistakes happen anywhere. Even months after they made that discovery, my husband got incision infections at Duke both times he had orthopedic surgery there. Still, while I'm a NC resident perhaps... well, I guess I need to look into it. Living on the road full time, even if not doing nature hikes, will mean being on my feet a lot and getting up into what is essentially a one ton truck means lots of chances to twist my bad knee... plus so many of the other women do hike that it will likely be part of my available social scene. I know they can insert synthetic cartilage prostheses. I don't know if they can repair a ruptured tendon at my age. I'd really rather not have a full joint replacement.
    I'm toying with the idea of beginning to teach myself to video. I already have a camera that would do for a while and almost all the accessories needed. There is adequate free video editing software. lol... I'm clueless about what niche target audience would be for me. Maybe "Back to health on a broken shoestring budget"?? Hmm... would force me to stay on track, wouldn't it? A RUclips channel that makes money looks like it's a full time job. Maybe I'll begin when i get the RV.
    I know our challenges are *very* different, yours and mine, and yet they are really much the same.

    • @SUVRVing
      @SUVRVing  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Kathryn. Congrats on getting the RV! That's really exciting. Hmm, yeah that's tricky with your bad knee. I mean, if you can get it fixed, I think that's obviously the way to go. And I think your primary consideration regarding RUclips is whether it's something you WANT to do. If not, you won't be able to stick with it long enough to maybe make money much later on. Good luck!

      @@SUVRVing I'm not sure which way going full time will work for me. I enjoyed the video and thought the video and audio quality was just fine. I was wondering about your impression of the Jeep Grand Cherokee? I'm considering purchasing an SUV and the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk is on the list of contenders. How did it compare to your RAV 4?

    • @SUVRVing
      @SUVRVing  6 лет назад +1

      It was a much smoother and quieter ride than my RAV4. It ate a lot more gas than the RAV4. It had much more room than my RAV4. It did this weird thing where it would turn off the engine at a stop light and then turn it on quickly again once I put my foot back on the gas. I didn't like that, because the AC didn't work as well when it was stopped and turned off. I loved the backup camera and sunroof and hated the different safety sensors and how computerized basically all controls were (as opposed to the knobs and dials in the RAV4), but those are just differences between trim models, I would guess. I'm a Toyota guy, so I'd get a 4Runner over a Jeep, but it was by no means a bad car.

    • @RicardoRoams
      @RicardoRoams 6 лет назад

      Thanks for your feedback. I also like Toyotas and a 4Runner is on my list of possibilities. Many new cars have that stop start feature where the engine shuts off. It's designed to save fuel. A lot of people don't like it and it's ridiculous for off roading. Cars equipped with this feature do have some kind of button to disengage stop start. But the default setting activates stop start. So every time you get in and start up the car you must disengage the stop start feature.

    • @SUVRVing
      @SUVRVing  6 лет назад +1

      Yikes, that's terrible. I guess turning it off each time would just become a habit eventually, but I really disliked it when I had it. Not sure if it was possible to turn off in the Jeep.

    • @comerbuck
      @comerbuck 6 лет назад +2

      I've got a 2017 Jeep GC Summit with the V6 which has the stop start "feature" that I hate (fairly common now on later vehicles) ... There is a button in the middle below the big Auto/Fan knob that turns it off which I religiously push after starting the vehicle each time. Sorry you lost the footage of your setup in the jeep as I have been interested, although the Summit is Jeep's version of a Range Rover and the 20" wheels/tires and front/rear air dams limit the off road aspect, so it is not "trail rated" as the Trailhawk version. I love my Summit and do take it on forest roads, but I am careful about road conditions.

    • @SUVRVing
      @SUVRVing  6 лет назад

      The sleeping setup was basically the same as in my RAV4. Back seat folds down, and a piece of wood with paracord on it is hung from the front seat's headrest and bridges the gap between the back seat and the front seat. Add a camp mattress and you're good to go.

    My town's KFC has a buffet, but they are pretty rare.

    Would your insurance allow you to rent the U-Haul can? More room

      I have no idea. But I'd much rather drive a Jeep than a U-Haul. I don't need extra space.

      @@SUVRVing ... yes, your very use to the small space now.... I am going to check into a U-Haul van (not the truck) to see how it feels sleeping st Wal-Mart and on the neighborhood streets...
      Have fun... safe travels. :)
