The plants in the deserts are beautiful, especially when they bloom. Thank you for taking me a long.
I really love the content of your videos. You always present with such professionalism and just the right humor and the area information is always anticipated . You were born for this dear heart. Continue on!!
Thanks Angela! I'll keep making videos as long as people keep watching :)
I love the mission, it’s beautiful. I was born in Tucson and always visit the mission when I travel back to Tucson when I visit.
Oh my...I was at this church ....I'm so glad you got to see it ....thanks for the memory......you stay safe and keep going
Reddington Pass is beautiful. A favorite camping site when I was growing up in Tucson. The bone yard is always fun, but the one in Marana is great too. So much has changed since I lived there though.
Yes the plants are fascinating. Love the IDing of the plants
Favorite parts: the mission, the info on the dry bread, the cool plant you identified for us.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Amazing building to find in the middle of a desert. The desert itself is quite green and beautiful too. Cool snake bridge. All in all a lovely video. Again many thanks for sharing your adventures.
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. It's a beautiful area, for sure. Thanks for watching and commenting, as always.
It's so nice that you are always widing your interest in new adventures around you awesome adventures I enjoy so much
I always enjoy your videos. You are the only person I have decided to support monetarily. But this one I ESPECIALLY loved! I live in Tucson! You did a great job showing Tucson. The Pima Air and Space Museum is one of my favorite places
Thanks Barbara, I appreciate that! There's a ton to see and do in Tucson. I've got to get back there 😁
Thanks for sharing. The mission was beautiful. Take care and safe travels my friend.
Thanks Kris!
I got see the church....so happy to see it on here....thank you
I agree, portions of Tucson are beautiful. Used to go out in the area of the desert you camped in with my brother and his family for a picnic. I miss the Catalina Mountains and going up to Mt. Lemon to escape the heat during the summer.
I haven't spent much time on Mt. Lemmon or in the Catalina Mountains. Guess I need to go back to Tucson ☺️
Very beautiful Mission Church. If you're ever that way again, try to go to the Chiricahua National Monument. Look it up, it's so cool. There are so many other cool places in Arizona. I love this state.
I go to Chiricahua NM in an upcoming video. Stay tuned :)
What a beautiful church! I think you did a lot on this video. The snake is cool and I would have to agree about this dessert being so green with such interesting plants. Definitely putting Tucson on my travel list. Thanks!
It should definitely be on your list. It's a great city, and there's a ton to see and do in the area. Thanks!
Never a dull moment on your channel is there? I love ocotillo! Choya, not so much! I've had a nasty run in with that one! I was 5, it was bad! 😅 I used to have a few ironwood carvings. I love how they felt.
Great filming again Tristan, I really liked the Rattlesnake Bridge , the mission, and plants. Hope you're sun burn getting better friend! I've.been to Phoenix Arizona and down into Nogales Mexico,I got the sunburn too😩😊 keep up you're good work and mission 😃👍👌. ✌ 😎
Usually I'm pretty good with not getting sunburned, but I was just outside for longer than I'd anticipated. Lol oh well. Thanks Dave!
I read on wikipedia that just about every culture has its own version of fried dough.
I saw the ocotillos in full bloom at Anzo Borrega once and they were being fed on by many hummingbirds. Great to watch.
They're beautiful plants, aren't they? Thanks for watching, Mary.
Also called the buggy whip
If you are interested in Missions then you must come to San Antonio. I haven’t seen the Mission in Tucson but have been through there many times. Great video!
I've been to San Antonio a couple of times and been to the Alamo. Great place. Thanks Kathy!
I too visited that church in Tucson during my tour of the southwest. Beautiful. Didn’t try the fry bread😉. Did you visit Tumacacori as well? I really liked that place. Sounds like you love the Sonoran Desert. Have you been to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument in the Sonoran Desert? That place turned me into a lover of the desert. So many different plants there, including the organ pipe cactus. The Monument is the only place in the US where organ pipe cactus grows wild. Given the large number of places you’ve been, no doubt you’ve already checked it out😊. Your videos made me realize I need to take advantage of free camping in the national forests.
Yes, I did visit Tumacacori. I think that'll be in the next video. And yep, I've been to Organ Pipe Cactus NM. It's awesome! Beautiful place that I'd love to go back to again in the future. Thanks for watching!
I so enjoy your videos! Informative, interesting, and visually beautiful.
Thanks Stephanie!
Every where you go, some how you find a lot of places to be a lone. I never seem to find places to be a lone. love your videos
The trick is to learn how to find campsites on your own without having to look online to find a place. Then it's easy. Basically I just drive down dirt roads until I find a place!
Nice variety of subjects. You really get out there. Was it totally quiet camped out there. The last 2 hours of daylight are always my favorite wherever I’m camped.
As far as I can remember, yes, it was totally quiet out there. No other vehicles driving by, and no one else was camped nearby. My kind of place!
Thankful that there are places like this still available to us. My first long road trip in 87 was PA to Yellowstone and Glacier Park. Driving out of the plains and seeing the Rockies Unforgettable. We didn’t need camping reservations and it was cheap. No worries about Cell phone signals, just looked for a pay phone. I could go on and on. Everything advances. Thanks.
Mission San Xavier was beautiful! Love Tucson! They have a light ordinance to help with light pollution. The Indian Fry bread looked so good!
It was delicious! And yeah, Tucson is a great city. Lots to see and do in that area. Thanks for watching!
My Hometown Tucson. So cool to see this video.
It's a great place! I like Tucson a lot.
That mission was super cool. TFS!
I thought so too. Really beautiful old building. You don't see things like that around too often.
Some of your videos are so good, I end up watching them twice, sometimes three times!! Crazy😵?
I'm glad you like them so much! Thanks for watching :)
Beautiful place the Sonoran desert. I was laughing pretty hard at the mess you where making just trying to eat that bread. 😂😂😂.
Lol it was delicious but also a pain to eat :)
That mission was beautiful. The last campsite had some great views. You mentioned learning more about the plants, do you keep a list of birds? I imagine that you see a wide variety in your travels. Great video. Thanks for sharing. Davin
Nope. To be honest, I'm not very interested in birds. I do see them a lot, but they all just kind of look the same to me!
I live in Tucson..the Ocotillo is actually a tree. You did a great job.
Thanks Sally! Tucson is a great place.
@@SUVRVing Some call it the buggy whip
I was just thinking about Chris from Chris and G Travels; hadn't watched him in so long. Will look him up. :)
You should! He's in the midst of a massive bus remodeling project. Poor guy :)
I wondered how the Amazon lockers work. It looks like they could handle a big parcel. Very efficient. I pictured lockers in a bus terminal where you climb over drunks and fight them for the box.
I grew up there, in Tucson. I remember a field trip to the Mission. Back then the Native Americans were Papago, a name the Spanish chose, I guess. Now they are Tohono O Odham, and they own casinos which are making some members of the tribe rich. The missions are very impressive, but it's murky what they represent. The Spanish lost 'the big one' in 1588. The Spanish seemed very sincere in some of their missionary work. As an example, Father Jean Baptiste Lamy. Interesting life. Great bio by Paul Horgan.
Thanks for the quick tour of Ironwood. That's prettier than I thought. People didn't go out there when I lived there, though it was developing. The Friends of Ironwood have a website and talk a little about the archaeological stuff. But it's like Parashant, which has been around a lot longer. Just no info and the BLM didn't develop it. Some of these SW BLM monuments are pretty spectacular, and some are hard to figure as anything but nature preserves.
Seems you YT people work together. I hope Google can fix some of the difficulties Carolyn is having. Probaby just because she is a woman. It's hard to take social media seriously when there is zero accountability. (Sorry, slipped and fell onto my soap box.)
Which Carolyn are you referring to, and what problems is she having?
I like Tucson a lot. Moreso than Phoenix. Ironwood is an interesting place. I'm sure that with more research I could figure out where things are, but I just didn't have the time on this trip. Next time. Thanks for watching and commenting, George!
You said the temperature was not too hot or too cold. When is a good time to go to the southwest? I have a RAV4 and will be doing some camping and traveling. I enjoy your videos and all of your helps and tips.
Hi Tristan! Are you seeing a lot of smoke from wildfires in the desert? Great show as always! Keep it coming! Thanks!
This trip was back in April. But I was in Arizona again last week. There was a lot of smoke in the air, but I think most of it was from fires local to the area and not the California fires. But I'm back in Utah now, and we're getting smoke from the California fires. Pretty crazy.
Iron wood trees grow in the Appalachian area. I doubt they grow where you were.
Great area in AZ! Did you find the Iron Wood? They have dusty pink blossoms in the spring and really stand out in the desert.
Yep, I did find the ironwood. It wasn't blooming when I was there, but I did see it. Thanks for watching, Sandy.
Rattlesnake bridge, Starbucks, Chipoltle..what more could you ask for😃
Lol living the dream!
That snake is unreal wow love the vid
Thanks Hobbs!
Just wondering whether you worry about your car when you park at a tourist attraction or even a library.
I mean, if it gets stolen it's more than your car that's gone - you'd lose all that stuff.
So is this a concern for you and are there any precautions you take to try to prevent that happening?
I am trying to visit all the missions, even the hidden ones. They’re neat! I did visit a couple in my route. Yea, I was in Tucson the middle of April and in January as well
I think that's a great goal!
And I’ll learn a lot along the way
I'm surprised your usual research didn't have you prepared with (even secretive) sites to hike to. Perhaps this is an area where you can do some of your own discovery?
I just didn't research this particular place too much beforehand. I hadn't really planned on going there or camping there. But I'll do my own research and/or discovery there the next time I'm around :) Thanks Kathryn!
SUV RVing Silly me. You did say this wasn't your originally intended itinerary?
I believe there are augmented reality apps for identifying plants and other objects. You might enjoy that, wouldn't help with the Ironwood though unless you held up to every tree til you find it. :) Very nice video, kind of interesting to see you in a city. It isn't my type vacation either.
I've used plant identification apps in the past but had only about a 50% success rate with them. That's better than nothing, but it's not super convenient. Lol I like cities, but I live in a city and don't have much interest in spending my free time there unless there's something really special about the place. Thanks!
Loving this. Is there a particular route that you cover when in your travels I live all away here in Florida but hopefully we'll be back on the road soon enough I definitely would like to visit some of the places that you have I know me and my husband would enjoy it
No, no particular route. I just go where I want to go. Thanks for watching and commenting :)
The Mission was amazing. You're right. You don't have to be Catholic to appreciate it! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Debbie!
Hey, sometimes a helicopter lands on the road. Yesterday someone stole & crashed a plane here in Seattle.
Lol it happens!
There is an Ironwood Mens Prison in So. CALIF.
I believe Ansel Adams took a well known photo of that church decades ago. Worth looking up.
It looks like there's a snake on the pavement over your shoulder after the rattlesnake bridge! 3:24
Love the fact you get sunburnt showing your car/home. But you can hike for hours and never tell us about the sunburn lol. Your deserts are a bit like our Australian deserts. We have both scrubby bush and sand deserts. You would love Australia, should come out with your beautiful wife one day.
I prepare for my hikes by wearing hats and sunscreen. I thought the tour would be like 15 minutes, but we were out there for a couple of hours 😄 And yes, I'd love to come to Australia! I went when I was 3 but don't really remember anything...
The mission was very beautiful. You could tell the Spanish influence in the drawings/artwork. It's really a shame that the Indian artifacts, etc cannot be advertised because of the stupidity of some people. Tucson is very pretty, amazing views!! That rattlesnake bridge was too cool!
Tucson is a great city. There's a lot to see and do in the area. Thanks for watching and commenting, Carol!
Thanks for sharing your adventures! Any more consideration for a collaboration video? Campervan Kevin is in Montrose, CO and he might be fun to travel with.
I'm not opposed to meeting up with other RUclipsrs, but Montrose is nearly 500 miles away. Not exactly next door :)
That NM was only established in 2017 and by the BLM not NPS so from what I've seen BLM does not provide the same amount of visitor services. The Friends Of Ironwood have a semi-useful page online. The BLM site is still mostly worthless but how is the Grand Staircase website? Last time I looked it was mostly worthless too. On the otherhand BLM does not micromanage like the NPS.
Mission San Xavier del Bac, also known as "The White Dove of the Desert." If you are viewing the Mission from the front you'll notice the tower on the right (east tower) appears to be unfinished. There has been a lot of speculation over the years as to why. When I lived in Tucson back in the mid 60's the story went that if the Mission had been completed more tax would have been levied. Several other stories have been put forth. I'm not sure anyone really knows the truth.
Huh, interesting. Thanks for sharing, Desert Rat!
Im from here and I have never step foot inside the San Javier church ! Its so hot here all the time I just want to stay inside and not go places !!! Sunburns are crazy here .
Oh come on, it's not hot ALL the time. Winters are great in Tucson! :)
SUV RVing
You are right winters are not 2 cold they are nice.
You no,I and probably others, enjoy identification of desert Flora as well. Don't keep it to yourself.
Don't worry, I won't! Thanks Larry.
Did you see the cat and the mouse on the topmost scrolls on the front, facing each other? The story is that when the cat gets the mouse, the world will have ended. Look closely. I can see them in your photo, but then I knew what to look for!
Mmmmmm...fry bread...with honey...mmmmmm
Good dessert in the desert after Navajo taco...mmmmm😋😋
❤️😀🇺🇸🚙🌏
Good to know about getting Amazon orders on the road. I wondered about this. I guess you need to get to an Amazon locker to get stuff? San Xavier is in great condition. Loved the courtyard there.
If you're on the road, yes, one option is to send things to an Amazon locker. I think you can also have packages shipped to a UPS Store or FedEx Office. But the Amazon Locker just seemed easier. Thanks for watching!
Nice FJ in front of you. Lol
It's a beautiful vehicle :)
Along with the US food allotments of flour, sugar and lard came the gift of diabetes and obesity for displaced Native Americans. Thnx Uncle Sam.
You are driving way too fast off road. I can tell from you're comments and other videos.
Spoiler: I'm still alive. Thanks for watching.
Ok ... My house was built in 1430's
👍
